Glenn Hauser logs April 8-9, 2023

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RCUSB, LRA36, poor into Arg SDR at 2206 April 8,
another Saturday broadcast, getting to be routine. But off by next
check 2240. Did anyone hear it earlier, or later? Probably started
circa 2100. One reply on the WOR iog:

``I heard it at 2238, quality signal varied a lot, from strong to weak
in few minutes. Here is a 5 minute recording using Argentine Kiwi-SDR:
https://app.box.com/s/chscd02zugmk04eoboucs43eq1e13vge
Marcos Cox, Chile`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 346 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0708 UT, dash and YXL, 500 watt ND
beacon at Sioux Lookout, Ontario. A regular but less and less heard vs
storm noise level. Really wish I could hear some `new` ones (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 6010, April 9 at 0645, LV de tu Conciencia, S7/S9.
Earlier I requested eQSL for my April 8 reception:

``Hi Rafael, Would appreciate an eQSL for LV de tu Conciencia, which I
logged for certain last night, direct on my R75 with 30m E/W
longwire:

6010, April 8 at 0615, song at S7/S9, title or refrain, ``por qué``.
0620 announcement by OM and then YL with ID ``La Voz de tu
Conciencia`` as we have been assuming. Next song with yelling, ``El
19 de marzo...``, SINPO 25342.

May we expect Alcaraván to resume too on 5910? Either continuing past
Easter? Thanks, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, USA``

Promptly a reply:

``Greetings, after more than 5 years off the air, the signals at 1.530
kHz-HKV82 and 6.010 kHz-HJDH have been put into operation again, both
teams are still making adjustments to improve their signals. Work is
also underway to make a new local production, and link via internet
with the studios in Bogotá for live programs, this in the medium term.
Likewise, work is being done to put the signal on the air at 5910 kHz
in the short or medium term.

I send you the eQSL and Pennant from the station, you can print them
to be part of your collection.

** CUBA. 6100, Sunday April 9 at 0712, no signal here nor anywhere on
6, 9 or 11 MHz bands from RHC, so weekly Esperanto also missing. Still
announced as 0800 on 6100, initiating a real broadcast at 1500 Sunday
April 9 on S9 11760 and JBA 15140 instead of 1600 on 11760 only as the
Esperantists remain clueless about their own true schedule.

Unusual propagation now: NAm & Cuban sigs above 13 MHz much
attenuated, such as JBA carriers on WWCR 15825, 13845; but 9980 still
blasting, 12160 only S8/S9. Some further signals still making it on 15
& 17 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17470 & 17480, April 9 at 1508, JBA carriers from
Dengê Welat & Recep the Turkish Jammer, or vice versa, failing to
collide. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauer, OK,
WOR)

** PERU. 4820, April 9 circa 0645, no signal from R. Senda Cristiana;
Ron Howard was not hearing it too at 0739, 0759, 0818. On April 8 he
got a reply from them:

``Hi Glenn, The following is an email from Brad Shaw, of Radio Senda
Cristiana. His info is at
https://quechuamissions.com/about
I have replied to his email with a number of questions I have about
the station. Will have to wait to see if he responds.

"Thank you for your kind words. Great to know you were able to hear
us. It must be working well. We are broadcasting with 1k watts, but we
are thinking of only 4-10pm [2100-0300 UT] and 4-8am [0900-1300 UT]
Peru time for the next year or so. Brad Shaw, Peru" -- Ron,
California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.023, April 8 at 2220, VOT is S9+45 into UTwente,
going from `Gripping Piles` to `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` - both
exact titles uncertain. Something`s always awry at Ankara. 2224 a
different OM voice than usual with `Weekly Analysis` about fake yogurt
made with buffalo milk (?). Somewhat overmodulated/distorted.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. From 2230 mostly music. 2254
s/off; 2255* after IS played only twice. BTW we recently ran across an
off-air recording made years ago of their previous IS which was on
piano with variations: nostalgia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 347 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0709 UT, AFK, 25-watt NDB at
Nebraska City NE, JBA next to stronger YXL 346 Canada.

251 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0711 UT, AM, 100-watt NDB at Amarillo TX; not
often heard among few Texans despite neighborliness (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2185 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
April 8 at 1930 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+18 into nearby SDR, about
13 minutes into so started early circa 1917.

Also confirmed Saturday April 8 at 2239 the 2230 on WRMI 5850, S9+5/10
into Missouri SDR; and WRMI 15770, VG S9+30/42 into Maine SDR, and at
2257 also holding up at S9/+15 into UTwente where it`s targeted.

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 9 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+10 but
noisy into Missouri SDR; S9+10/15 into Louisiana SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 9 at 0326 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20
into nearby SDR, about 4 minutes into so started circa 0322. Next:

2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW

** U S A. 9455, April 9 circa 1500 and many other random chex, no
signal from WRMI-5 supposedly scheduled 24 hours per transmission grid
still dated March 12 for B-22. Also, I have just noticed that both
WRMI-1 and WRMI-2 are shown as on 7730, zero hours per day, at 44 and
160 degree azimuths respectively. Yet 7730 remains for many blox on
the program/system skeds below. We never hear it nor have we for at
least 6 months. There are also lots of other blank hours on the grid;
at 16-21 UT only 4 frequencies in use of the remaining transmitters:
17790, 15770, 9455, 9395 - make that three!

BTW, this weekend Jeff & Thaïs White were to be visiting NSW and a DX
meeting to welcome them was organised (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1150 kHz, April 9 at 0601 UT another DX test from KSEN,
Shelby MT is scheduled to start. On the DX-398 with due north KSAL
nulled as much as possible, I briefly think I hear some sweep tones,
but must have been spurious sounds, wishful as absolutely nothing in
the nature of a DX test perceived until 0620 and another check around
0640; mainly two stations echoing with C2CAM. No one else heard it
either. Paul Walker then informed us: ``A little oopsie with the KSEN
test --- There was a bit of a mistake. KSEN programming staff
accidentally scheduled the test for Monday morning at 1201 [0601 UT
April 10]. KSEN has been lowered to proper night power and the test
will run as scheduled just a day late`` causing a lot of lost sleep,
not including me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7890, April 9 at 0704, JBA carrier, no doubt 2 x 3945
which R. Vanuatu has reactivated. Probably starts 0700 after 7260.

11835, April 9 at 0705, S9/+10 of W&M conversing in Bislama,
``b`long`` the keyword, as R. Vanuatu is back on 3 x 3945. One of my
best signals yet from this. Glad to have them again. The question
remains: are these harmonix really accidental? And why don`t they
occur when same? transmitter is on 5040, 7260. Marshall Reel, near
Washington DC, says 11835 cut off suddenly at 0859* (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7480.07, April 9 at 0650, S6/S8 dead air. No broadcaster
listed; ute, or possibly warmup channel only for a nearby frequency,
like VOA does (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7647.4 USB, April 9 at 0648, 2-way in Spanish (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1953 UT April 9
