** BOUVET ISLAND. 21225 USB, Feb 8 at 1635, big ham DXpedition is on air, 3Y0J. Working stations as fast as possible, which means uttering call of contact and signal report. ONLY OCCASIONALLY utters own callsign, heard at 1639, 1654. I think: could have been a contact saying it. I again object to typical DXpedition protocols. Callers see no need to call the station by name: they just keep saying their own calls. IMO, no contact should be complete without BOTH stations saying the call of the other, followed by ``this is`` or ``from`` their own call, every time! So it takes a few more seconds: live with it.
Further problems: 3Y0J often QRMed by stations calling him on same frequency. Others without IDing themselves often interject ``up five!`` and then some other others swear at them for doing that. All this I was hearing via the Campo SDR in Brasil. The TWR S Africa SDR was tied up on 10115, evidently the CW frequency of 3Y0J, I did not try to copy, but I bet they still sent ``DE`` to make it clear who is who. At 1652 could not hear 3Y0J direct on 21225 but occasional interlopers and most activity by callers on 21230 where they are supposed to be (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 410 kHz, Feb 8 at 1633, IG, ND beacon via Campo SP SDR as I bring it up to reach Bouvet, already tuned here. Classaxe RNA shows IG is at Guarulhos SP nearby, but not listed by dxinfocentre.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 11875.083V, Feb 8 at 0753, African language S9+10 but varying audibly as I try to measure it. RFI Fulani this semihour from Issoudun, altho CRI in Mandarin also listed. MUF from Europe has ascended. Way off frequency but in unlikely event NASWA log editor pick this item, he will lop off the numbers right of the decimal making this nonsensical; anti-accuracy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846, Feb 8 at 0803, no JBA carrier detectable from R. Kiribati; since it`s Wednesday? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Feb 8 at 0745, S8/S9 of dead air from VON. Something`s nullified in Nigeria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 12030, Wed Feb 8 at 2300, token English from REE direct, VG here on ME frequency off the back, as good as 9690 toward NAm. Also on weaker 11940 SAm, AND much weaker 11685 Af, all four transmitters on air for a change. At 2258 tune-ins, 11685 // 12030 and separately 11940 // 9690. Subject after news is interview about a large audio-visual trade show in Barcelona completed a few days ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 8 before and after 2300, no signal direct from VOT English to N America; so I listen to simulSpain. It does not take a disaster for TRT to go missing. But by 2336 recheck, Turkish music inbooming to UTwente, +001 Hz, S9+40/45. 2339 ``VOT, always by your side`` promo, and 2340 `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring` topic the benefits of carrots - for at least the third time! Good for eye health. 2353 s/off as if it were the 1330 broadcast, IS and stays on with German IDs, 0000 Feb 9 opening German, news; soft/sad music by 0010. Still German past 0030. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler and/or awry at Ankara. BTW, maybe missed some, but have never heard KURDISTAN or Kurds in any sense in connexion with the EQ, mentioned by TRT nor any of the major news media. No doubt Erdogan would be pleased if as many of the victims as possible were Kurds. It would be interesting to understand how Dengê Welat is covering this (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. On a household AM/FM radio not normally for DXing but positioned such that it favors N/S paths, Panasonic RF569D made in Singapore, inherited from my late aunt. Not sure of the 6 and 9, numbers hard to read as imprinted. Yes, that`s it, as another illustrated on eBay for $ 20. KKDA is 500 watts, somewhat direxional northward at night to protect XEX. Originally a superpower station, XEX now only 60 kW day and night per WRTH 2022; and IRCA Mexican Log, with nothing about it being anything but 24h sports. Much of the time the signals are equal here, producing a SAH of about 7 Hz, by the rapid-counting-as-seconds-tick-by-on-my-watch method. MWoffsets shows them 9.43 Hz apart: 729.9889 MEX XEX W Deportes (México D.F/Col. El Vergel) [729.9877-729.9907] 24h 2021-01-03 729.99833 USA KKDA (Grand Prairie, TX) 2017-08-03 However, at the max XEX variation, the apartness would be only 7.63 Hz; altho the measurements were 3.42 years apart. Radio-locator says KKDA is Radio Korea, DKnet, address in Dallas: https://dalkora.com/bbs/main.php?gid=radio Format as ``Asian`` but really Korean only? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Feb 8 at 0746, JBA presumed R. Vanuatu, still not changing to 3945 and multiples at 0700. Nothing on 7890, but some weak 2-way on 7889 USB. No 11835 either. Gary Pence agrees: ``Hi Glenn, Was listening to Vanuatu at ToH 0700z which they remained on 7260 with [no] QSYing at ToH. Sent [me .wav of] the first 2 minutes at 07z-0702z from ZL1KFM where they were S9+15db and at KFS SW rSDR H.M. Bay, CA, they were S9 signal on 7260. At 0711z still on 7260. No signal on 3945 khz. 73s, Gary, KM5X`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0038 UT February 9 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
