Logs
** ALASKA. 9600, Dec 27 at 2204, sitting here in USB, blips cross the
frequency exactly once every two seconds, sounding just like an
ionosonde except more often. During this minute there is one extra
uncoördinated blip, but seriously doubt it`s an asteroid reflexion.
Surely radar wavelengths would be more effective; is this a publicity
stunt? Earlier chex at 1741 and 1908 heard nothing. This is a HAARP
experiment, monitored by many others in the WOR iog, directly and
remotedly, as explained here via Don Moman:
https://www.hamsci.org/article/participate-haarp-experiment-studying-near-earth-asteroids

and here via Chris Mackerell:
https://www.gi.alaska.edu/news/haarp-bounce-signal-asteroid-nasa-experiment
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 530, Dec 27 at 0707, `Clair de Lune` by Debussy, soon outro
as `Claro de Luna` by the Lawrence Welk orchestra! Surprised he edged
so close to classical. And ID as ``Radio Enciclopedia, la emisora de
música instrumental``. Some lite Spanish talk CCI under, likely a
Rebelde, two listed in WRTH 2022. CMBQ 530 is at Villa María CH.

Enciclopedia has a few other frequencies elsewhere, 670, 1280, 1310.
We generally consider its format EZL. R. Musical Nacional, CMBF is
much more widespread, but nothing compared to Rebelde absolutely
everywhere. Originally put on 530 to block R. Martí relayed for a
while from Turx & Caicos. Originally mixed in brief ``encyclopedic``
facts with the music, but I think quit that long ago, yet retained the
name (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 26 at 2032, no RHC on only frequency for first
English hour of the day, just as it was missing already at 1646. One
wonders if back in the RHC studios at the Radio Progreso building,
they care or even be aware of how screwed up are the transmissions out
of Bauta et al - the weakest but vital linx to axually reaching
listeners. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Dec 26 around 2130 direct, no signal from R. Cairo
in English; still zilch at 2159 check into UTwente. Likewise Dec 27 at
2237 onwards into UTwente. Something`s always amiss at Abis (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Dec 27 at 0711, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati
is audible tonight, and Gary Pence agrees it was on and making it
earlier to Hawaii SDRs. I do not hear any other 9/kHz splits (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 15355, Dec 26 at 2025, jaunty song in French, chopped
off at 2029*. How rude: no sign-off, goodbye, outro, no announcement
at all. It`s AWR via Talata at 2000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MONGOLIA [non]. And I do mean non: 5800, UT Tue Dec 27 at 0130, I
decide to listen to VOM relay by WRMI, but instead in English it`s
Radio Slovakia International, Xmas show! Now I see the WRMI skedgrid
dated Dec 21 shows at the top #8 on 5800 at 01-02 with System H, RTI
and RSI --- but the System H sked itself below, still dated Oct 21,
yet displays V of Mongolia at 0130-0200 Tue-Sat.

Harold Sellers had noticed mailbag repeats lately, so VOM may have
canceled or been canceled. Never expect anything to last, or WRMI
skeds to be consistent. Then I find that the latest and only VOM file
on the server is dated September 19! No wonder it`s time to quit. I`ve
saved it for posterity but not sure where to put its 44 MB (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 27 at 0714, VON at S9+10/20 but JBM, so its
sporadic activity remains pointless. Something`s astonishing at Abuja
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAO TOME. 13750.063, Mon Dec 26 at 2034, JBA signal. Aoki shows
it`s VOA Hausa, daily except Sundays. Pinheira is one of USAGM`s most
successful and reliable offfrequenciers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 9675, Dec 26 at 2050 I`m listening to some nice ME
music during my dozenap, fair sufficient signal direct, but chops off
abruptly at 2057*. Aoki shows SBC in Turkish at 1755-2057 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Dec 26 at 2300, REE English entirely of obscure to
us Xmas carols from Spanish regions, dispensing with any news as Amy
says it`s pre-recorded for their Boxing Day off. Día de Boxeo? Don`t
get hit. Turkey declines to compete by keeping 5960 silent (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Dec 26 at 2300, NO signal from VOT English into
UTwente, clear frequency after BBC OMAN to 2259.5*. I keep monitoring
and by 2312, CNR1 relay by XJPBS, EAST TURKISTAN, std denunciation, is
S8/S9 alone on frequency and Chinese continues thru rest of hour; as
VOT cedes the N American Mon 2300 audience --- me and who else? to
simulEnglish from SPAIN, 9690, q.v. This also negates the chance for
extra German at 2400.

5960.003+, Dec 27 at 2253, VOT IS already running into UTwente at
S9+20/30, overriding BBCWS English via OMAN, with V. of Tuerkiye IDs
interspersed. Other days, VOT has deferred to BBC, waiting to
crash-start at *2300, when now the TS and s/on with sked commences.
Good modulation level but some hum. And there is still an
understation, must be XJPBS Urumqi modulating earlier than usual from
the land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other
Moslems. 2301 news about natural gas in the Black Sea; complaints
about Anti-Turk propaganda in Paris by the PKK; China relaxing
zero-COVID policy; NK UAVs wiolated SK airspace; Serbia vs Kosovo;
lots of holiday international passenger traffic thru Istanbul airport.
2310 Review of Turkish Press about nat/gas discoveries in Black Sea;
PKK propaganda in Paris; Sa`udi investment in Turkey. 2312,
multi-lingual ID reel filler. 2315, Weekly Commentary by Jonathan ---
Harvey, a journalist who focuses on ME/NAf, but not now: about
Scottish independence, is a breakup of UK possible? 2328 music break.
2338 finally another talk feature, Turkey`s Geo-something? about a
``neat dish`` whose name I can`t discern. 2340 more songs until 2353
sign/off with jumbled schedule again. 2355 IS starts playing. 2356
interspersing German IDs twice a minute, ``Hier ist die Stimme
Tuerkiye``. Still going at 0000 UT Dec 28, 5+1 timesignal and opening
German citing earlier time and frequency, Nachrichten. Hier wir gehen
again, fuer haulang? Zeit zu finalisieren dieses rapport. Achtung!
Kaput zu 0005.5. Uncovering XJPBS at S8 also on 5960.003+ but
reloaded, shows 5960.000+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2170 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday
December 27 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, very steady S9+20 direct; Jeff still
starts his ``The world is in turmoil`` commercial between the ID and
WOR. Next:

0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated. Thanks this week to Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, who
sends a generous quarterly seasonal check for Winter Solstice to:

woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Dec 27 at 0132, this WRMI-3 is S9+20 of dead air! And
still so at 0156 recheck. Sked shows `Circuit Rider` is supposed to
air at 0130-0200 UT Tue-Fri. I`m fairly certain it`s about
gospelhuxtering rather than electronix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Dec 27 circa 0030, the real WTWW is on with PPP, and
at 0056 check, still the JBA carrier spurs plus/minus 12.9 kHz, as I
check them for George who also tells me that Ted had not even
registered frequencies for #1 transmitter, altho that was what SFA was
paying him to run (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Dec 27 at 0715, R. Vanuatu with JBA music at S8/S9.
Quite reliable here lately rather than on better-heard 11835 = 3 x
3945 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA 9/kHz split MW carrier search, Dec 27
at 0322 UT: only 684 & 855, Spain the usual suspects. No others in
quick scan of entire MW band, but NAmQRM splash is fierce.

Except there is a het upon CHHA 1610 Toronto, about 1610.65. Could be
local birdie but if so never noted before. Or an off-frequency TIS/HAR
somewhere on this otherwise `clear` channel, or a pirate. Except for
CHRN Montréal, which I never hear, exactly blocked on the way by CHHA.
Anyone else with anything on 1610.65? Not until 0515 UT do I check it
on Missouri SDR: CHHA only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my 5051.0 open carrier Dec 26, Ron Howard replies:
``Hi Glenn - I also heard the open carrier on 5051.0, on Dec 26. Then
on Dec 27, checked at 0737 UT and noted: 5020 - SIBC; 5025 & 5040 - No
Cuba; 5051.0 - UNID weak carrier still here! Listened for a while and
heard no audio; 5055.0 - Radio 4KZ (Australia) still on this
frequency. Ron California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
