Glenn Hauser logs September 24-25, 2022
Sunday, September 25 2022

Logs
** ASCENSION. 7410, Sept 25 at 0651, S9+10 in unknown language
mentioning COVID-19, Nigeria. It`s BBC in Hausa, which I always have
trouble recognizing, not knowing any keywords (Glenn Hausar, er,
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. Between two Mexican beacons by Es, one phone station
audible on 10m, Sept 24 at 2222, by TE/F2: 28391.5 USB, ``PY2ZEA,
Willie in São Paulo state``, barely contacting Fred, NB4M, unheard
here:

``PY2ZEA Brazil flag Brazil
VILLE HIILESMAA
Rua Campos Salles, 622, Apto 61
Ribeirão Preto, SP 14015110, Brazil``

Originally from Finland, lots of info, photos of hams and equipment:
https://www.qrz.com/db/PY2ZEA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 284 MCW kHz, Sept 25 at 0705 UT, dash and QD, 500-watt ND
beacon at The Pas, Manitoba, which is next to SK and barely in the
southern half of MB, 1956 km = 1215 statute miles from here; hardly
anything else audible on LW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, Sept 25 at 0628, RHC English on wrong frequency and on
late, during UT Sun jazz show, S9/+10 and distorted. Only //s found
are 6165 --- and 5025!! The Rebelde frequency carrying RHC, while 5040
and all other 6 MHz channels are off. By 0641, 5025 has dropped to
dead air; by 0648 so have 6165; and 11670 except for trace of music.
Final check 0712 when weekly Esperanto should be on 6100, or
somewhere: 11670 with suppressed/distorted = suptorted modulation in:
Esperanto!!, 6165 and 5025 still open carrier. Ron Howard and Ivo
Ivanov observed more total mixups like this later in the morning,
Rebelde on several RHC frequencies. Something`s always wrong at RHC!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13700, Sun Sept 25 at 1500, RHC still on, S9/+10 in Spanish
but no spurs, std announcement that is now on 15140 & 11760 + FM; 1501
IS and staring Esperanto! and 13700 soon turned off ASAP, but not soon
enough; Esp`o continues on 11760 and much weaker 15140, sign on claims
to be at 0800 on 6100, altho I had just heard it at 07 on 11670! and
at 16 on 11760 - only, they never realise the addition of 15140; and
2330 or 2230? on 15730, where we haven`t heard RHC at all, lately, but
maybe, need to check. The Esperantists are clueless about times and
frequencies they are really on! Turn on a radio? I also catch them
mispronouncing words, like ``polítiko`` instead of ``politíko`` -
accents added by me for clarity, unable to break from Spanish habit to
Esperanto, where penultimate stress is absolutely invariable.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, Sept 24 at 2212, R. Cairo is on and poor S5/S6 direct,
and seems like may have decent English modulation, but I don`t get to
a remote in time to check it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846, Sept 25 circa 0655, no signal from R. Kiribati,
where it`s already Sunday night, also missing last two or three weeks,
at least. Tonight, Gary Pence found it also absent earlier after ~0430
sunset into Hawaii SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. Sporadic E MUF not caught exceeding 88 MHz since July, and
not much activity even above 28 MHz, but a couple Mexican beacons make
it on September 24, looked up at this reference:
https://www.qsl.net/wj5o/bcn.htm
which is still dated 2016 and don`t see any later years on entries,
but apparently the only `current` page.

28183.2 CW, Sept 24 at 2217, dash and VVV XE1RCS/B EK09:
``28.183 XE1RCS C CERRO GORDO, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL New 8/08/08, Club
call 27/06/10 Back on 16 Sept 11`` --- QRZ.com info:

XE1RCS Mexico flag Mexico
Radio Club Satélite A.C.
Apartado Postal 341-A
Ciudad Satélite, Naucalpan, Edo Mex 53100, Mexico

``The Radio Club Satelite is one of the most active and well known
radio clubs in Mexico since 1979. It got its name from Ciudad
Satelite, a suburb north of Mexico City where it all started.

XE1RCS beacons on 28.182 and 50.019 MHz now transmiting from new site,
Cerro Gordo about 70 km northeast from Mexico City. This new site,
Cerro Gordo is about 3100 m above sea level, near Teotihuacan
pyramids. The site is owned by Radio Club Satelite.

XE1RCS/B on 28.182 Mhz. has an AR-10 antenna with 8 watts, and on
50.019 has an AR-6 with 50 watts. All the antennas are mounted in a 40
m tower with surge protection and battery backup.

Also we added a new experimental beacon that is on 144.295 MHz with 5
watts into a F-23 antenna, transmiting CW and FM with ID alternately.
Please make your reports. http://www.xe1rcs.org.mx/beacons
73 de XE1RCS``

28171, Sept 24 at 2225, XE1RCS/B is no longer the only beacon on band:
3 short dashes, XE1FAS/ B EK09VB with a stronger signal, but strange
keying, irregular spaces between the characters, especially long space
before B. Not hand-keyed but recorded with same errors repeating. Here
it is:

``28.171 XE1FAS C PUEBLA, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL NEW 30 Sept 10``

``XE1FAS Mexico flag Mexico
SEGURA WALLS ALEJANDRO
31 PONIENTE 2926 COL. EL VERGEL
PUEBLA, PU 72410 Mexico``

In this context, Poniente means West, as in where the sun sets. Lots
of photos, SSTV:
https://www.qrz.com/db/XE1FAS
``BEACONS: 28.171, 24.929.5, 50.030 ALL CW, (XE1FAS/B EK09VB) 15
WATTS, LOOP ANTENA TRIBANDER, OPERATED INTERVAL 20 SECONDS, 2260 M
HIGH`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also BRAZIL

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Sept 25 at 0650, VON is on at S7/S9 but JBM (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAO TOME E PRINCIPE. 17530.083, Sun Sept 25 at 1453, unknown
language, music, S2/S3. EiBi shows it`s VOA Pinheira, 1400-1500 Sat &
Sun only, in KNK = Kinyarwanda/Kirundi. At first thought it would be
Madagascar, which is also off-frequency with BBC after 0600, like
17530.024 on Sept 15, so STP is the winner for offfrequenciness (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Sept 25 at 1506, S4/S8 of dead air, got to be REE as
scheduled to ME, off the back here, while 17855 off the front to NAm,
is modulating at S7/S9. 11940 to SAm, JBA carrier. Something`s always
nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sept 24 at 2213, VOT English at S6/S8 direct but just
barely modulated again. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [and non]. I`m behind on monitoring Ukraine: Security
Issue, and feel it responsible to report on it, but I wonder if anyone
else thinx it`s worth my trouble? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2157 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday September 25 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 and noisy into
Maryland SDR; preceded at 0029 by Jeff`s commercial for Etón SW
radios, starting with ``Right now the world is in turmoil...`` so
that`s what I have been hearing cut off at other times. This time
followed by Allen Graham from Ecuador ID, and intrusion of a few
marimba notes followed by noise over the first 10 seconds or so of my
opening.

Also confirmed UT Sunday September 25 at 0318 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
about 5 minutes into so started circa 0313, close to nominal 0315,
S9+15/20 into nearby SDR, with storm crashes. Next:

2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW

** U S A. 9330v, Sept 25 at 1509, WLCR/WBCQ is gone again, even at
prime Sunday-morn churchgoin time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9940, 9475, 5830, 5085, Sept 25 at 1508, WTWW is nowhere
with PPPP/SFAW or anything, at prime Sunday-morn churchgoing time.
Also have not noticed 5085 running late into night past 0600 lately
with rock. Maybe the electric bills are starting to hurt (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4905, Sept 25 at 0642, again tonight, that strange
``musical`` loop, continuous beat at the rate of 104 times per minute,
S9/+10, best audible in SSB mode, not FM, and no specific carrier.
Some ute, not broadcaster. This late, too inconvenient to record a
sample but hope to subsequently, or by someone, maybe also thus
earlier. Used to hear RTTY around 4905, maybe USN (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
