Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Sept 7 from 1446, monitoring LU4AA SDR
in Argentina for LRA36 -- nothing yet this Wednesday. Gary Pence is on
it too. Finally cuts on S9 at *1519, bit of music and standard canned
sign-on, with staff names; 1521 Esperanza themesong; 1525 clip of an
old OM radio voice and YL about SW in Argentina; 1529 tango?; 1531
``su cía`` ID, and intro as the *18th* program of the 2022 season, on
``dia de la radiodifusión``, which *was* 27 de agosto! So this is a
rerun of that date I already reported on, q.v. instead of anything
new.

1533 geo coörds; base was founded on 17 dic 1952. Temp `now` minus 17
C, feels like minus 22 with 70 kph winds from SE, gusting to 95;
sunset? time 17h27 local. 1535 contact info; 1538 rock song; 1540 date
27/8/1920 is being commemorated; 1545 song; 1547 ID with frequencies,
``Nacional, la Radio Pública, mentions Horacio Guarany, chatting with
music background; 1555 OM voice of some ham about setting up ham
station in Antarctica as an act of sovereignty [aha! Argentine
imperialism, hi]; 1605 ID with ``Nacional, nos une``, weather again;
how LRA36` first broadcasts were on 6030, later to 15476 ``AM`` [NOT];
1610 song; 1614 ID with staff names again like sign-on but this worx
as sign-off, since then off air at 1615* and still off past 1630
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BENIN [and non]. 1566 kHz, Sept 7 at 0343, JBA carrier; and an even
weaker one at 0345 on 1467. NW USA & SW Canada DXers have been
reporting these TWR transmitters around 0345. Despite the extreme
trans-continental distance, they can hear them, so I should too! WRTH
shows 200 kW on 1467 but 100 kW on 1566. The lower may have a less
favorable antenna pattern, eastward for Nigeria.

Schedules in WRTH are under SOUTH AFRICA! along with other TWR site
Swaziland. In language order it`s tough slogging, finding when these
are supposed to be on, in what. In WRTH it seems the only morning
entry for 1476 on page 494 is VARIOUS languages to Nigeria at
0315-0550 daily. Both also much more in local evenings, but
disregarded as never to be heard here afternoons. EiBi is much more
convenient:

Not on before 0430? WRTH does show 1566 in English at 0320-0330 M-F,
0430-0500 Sat, 0530-0545 M-F. Also Hausa 0330-0430 M-F, 0345-0430
Sat/Sun.

gaisma.com shows Parakou sunrise currently at 0540 UT, and at less
than +10 degrees north, varies little over the year, as late as 0600
six months from now. When I`m getting Benins, at 0347 the only other
9/kHz carrier detected is 711, presumably 300 kW Morocco (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Sept 7 at 2113, R. Cairo carrier at S5/S9 into
Maryland SDR with humwhine; 2115 timesginal about 10 seconds late and
extremely distorted music as English program modulation starts.
Something`s abysmal at Abis (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846, Sept 7 at 0656, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati. Ron
Howard wonders whether they are silent Sundays since neither he nor I
could hear it Sept 4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Sept 7 at 0655 direct, no signal from VON.

Sept 7 at 1728, checking Canary SDR, unavailable, blank H2Ofall, as
operator EA8BFK advises ``If you don`t see any signal, the antenna is
used for the radio station!`` for transmitting, I assume. 1739 SDR
revives for receiving, and VON is on at 7255 minus 67/69 Hz =
7254.932v, S9+10 but hard to follow, noisy in English (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, Sept 7 at 1450 UT, Enid`s only local TV signal,
K17JN-D, the 3ABN translator is back on air for first time since
vanished July 8 as I have checked almost every day. Lineup:
17-1, main 3ABN
17-2, no bug, but ``unsupported audio CODEC`` on Sanyo screen, OK thru
STB; Amazing Facts, AFTV
17-3, Hope Channel, HopeTV
17-4, HisWORD, or LLBNWor
17-5, Audio only program, 3ABN-MR
17-6, Audio only program, Radio 74
17-7, Audio only program, 3ABN-RL, but silent

I`m informing rabbitears.info that it`s back on [as part of market 50
OKC tho no way to see it there without heavy tropo; and with a
different old lineup] (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Sept 7, token English from REE, 2218 presenting a
movement from Fantasy for Guitar and Orchestra, by Manolo ---, who
died in late August at age 78. First tried UTwente, but is not well
situated for any of the four frequencies, 11670 best; now S9/+10 via
Virginia SDR for 17855, but some distortion marring the music (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.007, Sept 7 at 2200, VOT English is on today, S9+40/45
into UTwente, VG signal and modulation this time. 2243 starting later
in the hour than usual, `Feeling Supreme: Healthy Life` about natural
remedies for vertical swings --- what?? No, it`s ``varicose veins, a
disease``, until 2251; as already heard on Friday August 26. 2252
sign-off with jumbled English schedule; 2253.6 IS starts playing, off
at 2255.8 before any German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Not much storming over CONUS, diminished noise
level allows me to rehear some ND MW beacons at bedtime bandscan,
0701-0708 UT Sept 7:

359, SDR, SnyDeR TX, 25 W
356, ODX, Ord NE, 25 W
353, LI, LIttle Rock AR, 400 W
346, dash and YXL, SiouX Lookout ON, 500 W
338, RYN, Tucson/RYaN AZ, 400 W, mixing with another, probably TU,

The Okies: 341 EI EnID and 350 RG OKC still on; 255 SW StillWater and
515 PN PoNca City still off (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

Confirmed Tuesday September 6 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 into
Maryland SDR with lite Cuban jamming at first; by 2258 built up to
heavy in preparation for R. Libertad, of which there is none in Cuba.

Also confirmed Tuesday September 6 at 2356 the 2330 on WRMI 9395,
S9+25 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday September 7 at 1056 when I happen to awaken,
the 1030 on WRMI 5850, VG direct.

NOT Confirmed Wed Sept 7 after 2100 on WBCQ 7490-, rather replaying

** U S A. 9395, UT Wed Sept 7 at 0000, right after WOR on WRMI, `Jazz
from the Left` - coast, that is. Altho a recent upload, may be old
repeat or host is way out of touch: says he is Tuesday afternoon on
11580! A frequency WRMI abandoned years ago; in fact nothing anywhen
on the 11 or 13 MHz bands, why? These would provide good coverage at
least in daytimes, especially in seasons-B. He also mentions this time
but I think not as on 9395, but was it 7730, or 7780? Current sked
grid for JftL shows: Sat 2200 9395, Sun 0200 9395, Tue 2000 on System
B, but ``internet only`` instead of 9955; Wed 0000 9395 & 7780. DJ has
really laid-back style (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7932.05, Sept 7 at 0647, R. Vanuatu is JBA vs CODAR, not
detected on 11898+ at first but yes, JBA carrier at 0653. It seems
that frequency change time is now 0659/0700, after which Ron Howard
found a totally different set of harmonically related frequencies!

``Sept 7 - After 0659* UT on 7932 kHz, I went looking for Vanuatu. Not
on the usual frequencies. Found Radio Vanuatu on new 8620.22 kHz, as
measured on my old Eton E1 (am sure someone can get a more accurate
measurement!); mostly fair; // 4310.11 (poor) // 12930.33 (very
poor).

0705-0716 UT: News/sports in Bislama. 0731-0801: Interview in English
about investments (talking about gov't bonds, National Bank, low
interest rate loans, interest rates, "Investments not all in one
basket," etc.). 0802+: Speech in Bislama about domestic violence in
Vanuatu, violence against women, Vanuatu's Women Center, etc. Wonder
how they are coming up with these strange frequencies? Ron,
California`` --- More replies on the WOR iog:

``Hi Ron, Thanks by the tip. I'm hearing Vanuatu on 8620 and 4310 poor
to fair signal at 0928, 09/07. 8620 better. 73 Lucio Brazil``

``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain: Hi Ron, checked right now, 0945, 07-09,
via SDR Kiwi remote receivers in New Zealand, on air on 4310.19 and
harmonics 8620.37 and 12930.57. Comments, ID "Radio Vanuatu", Island
songs. Good to fair signal on 4310.19 and 8620.27, weak on 12930.57``

Ron follows up at 1002: ``Thanks very much to Lucio and Manuel for
their quick check of Radio Vanuatu's new frequencies. Also thanks to
Mauno Ritola for his more accurate measurements:

"Thanks, Ron. I have extremely faint audio also here in Finland on
12930.565v kHz. Checking via Neil Findlay's Brisbane Perseus I get
those at about
4310.19
8620.38
12930.565
The carriers are fairly stable, but something wrong with entering the
fq in the transmitter? I wonder where they are at 1830? Mauno"

Appreciate also hearing from Craig Seager: "Goodness! All three heard
here too 0745, reasonably well - appears to have really gone rogue,
and continues to drift. Couldn't muster up the 4th harmonic, though -
a bit late for here in that range."`` [all via Ron]

I was about to contact Adrian Sainsbury of RNZ who has assisted many
Pacific islands fix their transmitters; but Wolfgang Bueschel already
tried that, to: <asainsbury@radionz.co.nz>

``URGENT NZ help --- These catastrophic frequency deviations of past
few days, urgently call for a competent transmitter technician from
the 'NZ third world to help' - fly in from NZ to Vanuatu. the local
Vanuatu technician people can't handle the FQ disaster ? 73 wb df5sx
wwdxc germany``

but it bounced! ``Adrian Sainsbury retired from NZ radio / telecom
recently, and his former mail address doesn't functioning anymore,
sorry. 73 de wolfy df5sx`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report despatched at 2356 UT September 7
