Hauser
** CANADA. 14670, May 23 at 1504, JBA carrier S8 but no CHU pips
audible; and nothing on 7850. Ontario & Quebec hit by a storm May 21
with heavy damage including to CHU. Richard Langley, NB reported at
2110 May 23:

``I have been in touch with the CHU technical officer and he reports:
"We are still assessing the situation, we should know more soon.
I have not even been allowed on the site yet."

Note that CHU is controlled remotely from the NRC Montreal Road
(Ottawa) campus. Following (presumably) resumption of power at the
station, the transmitters went into some sort of default mode. --
Richard Langley``

NRC webpage detailing CHU outages, had not been updated since last
September:
https://nrc.canada.ca/en/chu-short-wave-station/
but by 2200 May 23 shows all three offline since 2000 UT May 21, but
never any details as to why. Via Ron Trotto here`s about the storm but
not mentioning CHU:

** RUSSIA [non]. 9369.9985, May 23 at 1913, UTwente is getting
S9+20/30 in Russian, R. Svoboda 1900- unofficial relay, via Armenia?
Or Uzbekistan? 1959 ID and runs until abrupt cutoff at 2001*. This
transmission had been missing at my last check May 21 on the Izhevsk,
Russia SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.018, May 23 at 2207, VOT English, S9+40 into UTwente
but huge squeal vs the talk. Somewhat obscured at 2227 during loud
music, but still infesting when talk resumes at 2238 and 2243 soft
music. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 23 at 0500-0507.8, UR1 via WRMI,
immediately into English `Ukraine: Security Issue`, war summary for
Day 88 = May 22, by the YL anchor who does the best job. Final story
about a woman muralist who has painted a huge 5 x 6 meter image of the
F-you postage stamp against the Russian warship. She had a hard time
getting the original stamp to go by. VG into Maryland SDR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

For these noncommercial services, voluntary financial support is much
appreciated, thanks this week to Radio Dan, Ohio; preferably by MO or

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Sunday May 22 at 1930, WRMI after Prague relay,
classical music fill mostly solo `cello, instead of scheduled
`Wavescan` --- another no-show like no WOR except 6 words Sat May 21
at 1930; otherwise M-F should be VOA news + Flashpoint Ukraine. 2000
C&W music apparently Memphis Weirdos as sked from System H, also shown
on Sys B sked but as ``internet only`` this hour. On caradio (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490v, Sunday May 22 at 2230, WBCQ with second half of
`UBMP` on webcast, but conx out at 2240, 404 unfound. So I am forced
to listen on SW for the rest of it, sufficient into Maryland SDR. The
first half hopefully will repeat Monday at 2300 on both. Yes, stream
is working May 23, says first aired in June 2021, starting with
original version from Rhodesia of `The Lion Sleeps Tonight` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 11835, May 23 at 0623, still no R. Vanuatu on 3 x 3945. It
came back only on May 19, but keep checking (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 16m bandscan May 23 at 0616-0620 UT finds multiple
carriers mostly JBA from the dayside, now penetrating into the
nightside tnx to north polar summer midnight sun: 17485, 17510, 17500,
17530*, 17540, 17615, 17650, 17680, 17710, 17720, 17730, 17740, 17780,
17790*, 17810, 17830, 17865. No doubt most if not all could be
list-logged referencing EiBi/Aoki/HFCC with few collisions. *the
stronger ones, no doubt MADAGASCAR as previously logged. Nonesuch on
13m however, also surveyed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0021 UT May 24
