Texas Radio Shortwave’s annual Cinco de Mayo program airs on WRMI on May 6 at 0200 UTC on 5800 kHz.
The show celebrates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken for Mexico's Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16, commemorating the Cry of Dolores in 1810, which initiated the war of Mexican independence from Spain.
The holiday is more popular in the U.S., especially in Texas, than it is in Mexico.
