Glenn Hauser logs April 15-16, 2022
Saturday, April 16 2022

Hauser
** CUBA [non]. 11760, April 15 at 1353, NO signal from RHC which is
supposed to run 1200-1800 here. Something`s always wrong at RHC.
Instead, weak S6/S8 conversation in American English, so it must be
CRI -- yes, `Beijing Hour`, scheduled 1200-1400 via Kunming. Still
Commies but not vs other Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GREECE [and non]. 9420, Fri Apr 15 at 1530, Greek talk dominates
into UTwente, while CNR13 pop music dominates into Perth SDR. 1538,
ERT plays Dean Martin`s ``That`s Amore``; why? Anyway a fine old
Italianate tune. At 1700 timesignal from China as Greece goes off, as
Uighur service continues with CNR theme ID and more music (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [and non]. 7290, Fri Apr 15 at 1759, UTwente gets music and
1800, 5+1 timesignal and CNR, but no IRRS. Third Friday is an off-week
for WORLD OF RADIO at 1815 and everything else normally on IRRS this
hour via Bulgaria. Then via Noale SDR near Villa Estense I check 918
and 1323 kHz at 1803. Unlike last week, 918 is off again. 1323 does
have rock music, marred by local noise spans on and off every minute;
over lite CCI presumably Romania in German; 1807 Radio City ID and DJ
in English, I think, but hard to understand. By 1812 recheck, 7290 is
now on with same Radio City music. Neither now nor earlier is 2 x 7290
= 14580 audible into UTwente, just a big ute warble on the upper side.
And so it goes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, April 15 at 1503, Voice of Martyrs - Korea
with TV preacher lecturing as if to children, taking The Trinity as a
given in total self-assuredness, S9+10/20 into Perth, better than
Kuwait or UTwente gets the secred site; 1525 fading down to S6/S9,
1529 wrapping up with email and off. Soon replaced by *1530 Vatican
Radio in Arabic, much stronger S9/+15 into Utwente (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Friday April 15 at 2200, token English from REE, VG
into Maryland SDR, news first from Justin Coe; then Amy Egan with
feature about Easter music in Spain; 2214 finally starts playing
`Madruga`, a dirgey march for ``Holy Week`` in Seville. Here`s a look
at Justin & Amy along with the podcast where she was introduced:

https://www.rtve.es/play/audios/emision-en-ingles/english-language-broadcast-panorama-07-01-21/5754541/
See also TURKEY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, April 15 at 2200, Voice of Türkiye opening English,
VG S9+20/25 strength into UTwente, first with transmission sked. On
M/W/F I usually check both this and SPAIN q.v. for English to us.
Aside from whether Spain`s subject may be of interest, it`s no contest
to choose the pleasant voice of Justin Coe in perfect English, over
the Türkiguy trying to be understood through the lo-fi overmodulation
and hum. Something`s always awry at Ankara and/or erroneous at
Emirler. I leave it on in the background and hear the beautiful IS
loop already running by 2250; chops off at 2354.6* before it`s about
to switch from English postlude to German prélude (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, April 15 at 0501-0506, YP1 via WRWI with
English `Ukraine: Security Issue` this time voiced by the guy who is
not in so big a hurry. Of course if they only get 5 minutes for
English, you can hardly blame them.

I happen to recheck 7730 at 0629 direct and surprised to hear the
Ukrainian national anthem, before it`s chopped off at 0629.5 for
canned WRMI ID, 0630 into TOMBS. The question is, what was airing
between 0600 and 0629 after the UR1 hour? It had been R. Tirana,
Albania relay, but on April 13, Ivo Ivanov said Radio for Peace
International aired instead in Russian and English. However, this may
be a weekly rather than daily broadcast?

1386 Lithuania relay of YP1 English news reconfirmed at 0001 UT April
16, VG into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2133 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St.
Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio:
JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn:
World of Radio #2133, confirmed, below with Details:

WRMI:
9395, 9455, slight QRN,
9455, 0033, 0040 (45433),
9395, 0043 (45433),
9455, 0043, 0057 (45433), 0059, April 14 UTC 2022 [Thu]
9395, 0131, 0157 (45433), 0159, April 14 UTC 2022 [Thu]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

WORLD OF RADIO 2134 monitoring: confirmed first broadcasts UT Friday
April 15 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5850, S9+30 to Missouri SDR; 7730, S9+25/35
to Maryland SDR.

0330 on WRMI-2 5985 at 222 degrees continues to show on the skedgrid
for blue System D, daily with WOR on Fridays, yet 5985 has not been
confirmed on air for a few weeks. Also claims to run Eslovaquia at
0400, unheard either. Jeff has not explained what`s going on here, so
I am obliged to keep checking. In fact, into various N American and
Caribbean area remotes, there *is* a JBA carrier on 5985, enough for
Kiwis SAM to lock onto it, but no modulation audible. If not WRMI,
what could it be? Aoki and EiBi do not account for anything else at
this hour. HFCC has a totally imaginary Indonesian entry which even if
it existed would not be propagating from mid-day over there. However,
once before I could barely recognize my voice during this span, as if
WRMI were on a few watts of exciter only. Maybe that is still the case
without or with any identifiable modulation? Another remote
possibility: a leapfrog mixing product; but does not compute as
combination of any strong 49m Cuban or US fundamentals.

WOR 2134 confirmed Friday April 15 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, at least no
jamming at this hour, but JBA S3-S5 direct in degraded propagation.
WWV reports at 1500:

``# Geophysical Alert Message
Solar-terrestrial indices for 14 April follow.
Solar flux 103 and estimated planetary A-index 38.
The estimated planetary K-index at 1500 UTC on 15 April was 3.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been moderate.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G2 level occurred.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level occurred.
No space weather storms are predicted for the next 24 hours.``

Third-Friday 1815 on IRRS preempted; see ITALY

** U S A. 9330, April 15 at 1434, World`s Last Chance via WBCQ as I am
tuning by to find its signal weaker than the 9200 carrier, see
UNIDENTIFIED, is in matter-of-`fact` conversation about how the world
is flat, yet don`t worry about falling off the edge; then with
``evidence`` despite the alleged 40 MM circumference of a sphere. How
can Allan Weiner, a Man Of Science, countenance this? Free Speech, of
course. Free to make absolute fools of themselves as long as they paid
for it. And try to spread their nonsense. How about the permanent
damage such nonsense could do to the lives of their gullible listener
victims? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. In memory of John Henry Carver, Jr., mid-north Indiana, who
so faithfully filed with us his summaries of `AAAWWW` on WBCQ, and
died April 8 as previously reported.

There was no mention of him on this week`s program, which I monitored
on webcast of (7490v) starting at 0000 UT Saturday April 16: Skipping
the usual mike-fiddling and titillation, discussing a QSL card from a
listener with view of Grand Canyon, and lauds the program, if I could
only read my scribble of the exact words. They plug Easter, etc., with
the usual post-Jewish piety. Backs Elon Musk to take over Twitter ---
and how about a few of his billions to prop up all US SW stations?

Somehow blames the ``mistake`` of electing Biden President for Putin
making war. Isn`t T**** still saying that attacking Ukraine was a
smart thing to do?? The Lord could put a stop to all of that
immediately if persuaded by enough praying. 0034 skims thru some Free
Radio Weekly items just published, including YHWH on 7475. 0038 reads
Radio World follow-up, reader responses to Robinson & Perron`s article
that SW is kaput. Pronounces Keith as Pair-on. 0051 misc. e-mail. 0053
reading article about what it was like to drive antique cars 100 years
ago. 0059 prayer. 0101 joining in progress Hal Turner late as usual
[and I start getting an echo as 7780 WRMI has also brought him up]
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7780, UT Sat April 16 at 0000, this WRMI to the southwest
has just come on, right into Bible study in Spanish, NOT Radio Free
America Latina, as alleged in a WRMI post on disgraced FB about such a
new program at 0000 UT Saturday, a repeat of 0000 UT Friday on 9955
which I am yet to catch. The System D program grid however shows the
7780 airing as 0030 UT Sat. This proves to be correct as I check that
while listening to WBCQ into the other ear. The wrong time on FB has
not been corrected!

We now know that the word Radio is pronounced as in Spanish, the word
Free as in English; and the rest in Spanish; why not Libre? A
perfectly good Spanish word. Opens with some jaunty, non-LA theme
music. Into TWR RGV SDR on 7780 it`s S8/S9+5. Editorial de la semana
is about guerra in Ucrania. As implied in their publicity, anti-Commie
and LA fellow travelers. Announcer Dolores speaks with artificial
voice. 0035 more jaunty music; 0037 another ID; 0044.5 it`s over, back
to Zanotti ID, fill music starting with `Sandunga` on marimba, one of
our favorites, and more fill to hourtop (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 11835, April 15 at 0640, R. Vanuatu again here with music,
S7/S9 direct on 3 x 3945; 7890 = 2 x 3945 only a JBA carrier (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 9200, April 15 at 1433, big open carrier
S9+20/30 but shortly cuts off. Such has been heard before. This is
stronger than any 9 MHz broadcaster as I quickly scan them: 9330 WBCQ
SuperStition is only S9/+10, and 9980 WWCR TOMBS only S9! Possibly an
idle RTTY transmitter if not a test-only broadcast frequency (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0128 UT April 16
