Glenn Hauser logs March 29-30, 2022
Wednesday, March 30 2022

Hauser
** CHINA. 9889.999, March 29 at 1955, open carrier, S9+30/35 into
UTwente as I am tuning around for Cairo and Ankara, but 1958 music,
2000 one pip and Chinese fully modulated. CRI Beijing site to Europe
scheduled this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9869.76, March 29 at 1956-1957* music and off, presumably
end of Russian hour from R. Cairo as now scheduled, signature
offfrequenciness, into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, March 29 at 2223 direct, JBA carrier, hard to believe
it`s Cairo in English direct but nothing else is registered A22 in
HFCC at 2115-2245, nor as copied in Aoki. Cairo had been reported
March 27 on 9440, but not March 28.

9900 however has two weak signals, one about 9899.8 typical of Cairo
and the other in Chinese. Then via UTwente at 2235, Cairo is
definitely on 9899.759, customarily just barely modulated at S9+45.
But in A-22, ``9900`` is now allegedly for Portuguese at 2215-2330;
AFAIK the S American services had not made a comeback on whatever
frequencies: Arabic 2330-0045 on 9885 but unchecked; Spanish 0045-0200
on 9890. But checking 9890 at 0055 March 30 into UTwente, there is a
weak signal in Portuguese! listing a bunch of transmissions with
CRI-like music and off. Not in HFCC or Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN. 9855.002, March 29 at 2003, American English talking about
Shiites and prison, but interjexions in Arabic or Persian, including
``In-shallah``s, S9+20/30 // weaker 9835.007, S9/+15 into UTwente, but
much lower modulation. End of sermon? reverbs at 2006, then to YL ID
as Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran; song; 2007 ``You have been
listening to ---`` as if signing off, on internet, SW, FM and
satellite with A22 frequencies: to Indian subcontinent at 1520-1620 on
11865; to Europe on 9855, South Africa on 9835, at 1920-2020; in
Tehran on FM 91.5; Hotbird, Eutelsat, IranSat [? WRTH says IntelSat],
parstoday.com/en and see website for mobile phone info; contact info
including P O Box 19395-6767, Tehran, asking for reports about audio
quality. But then at 2010 music and another program, `In the
Limelight` all about Trump`s opaque fundraising, $ 108 million in the
`Save America` PAC; cites Guardian, UK, and may be quoting it
directly; with music sounders --- but 9855 cut off air in progress at
2020.6* --- well, yes, it is time to quit their strange 20-20 hour,
but a certain lack of coördination between studio and Sirjan! Then I
check 9835, still on but with dead air only until finally 2026.7*
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 9874.998, March 29 at 1957 open carrier, 2001 music
and Korean, S9+5/15 into UTwente. A22 Aoki, already available in
userlist version, shows going from VOK in English into KCBS simulcast
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. 9370, March 29 at 1951, R. Svoboda relay in Russian
confirmed on air, perhaps for entire 1900-2000 hour, but not a good
record for such accomplishment. S9+20/27 into Khimki, Russia, KiwiSDR,
even better to UTwente S9+30/35 but sounds about the same: in both
cases somewhat overmodulated, distorted. But no jamming or other QRM.
Gavar, Armenia, site? We still don`t know for sure (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 9880.029, March 29 at 1958, VOT in French, S9+25/30 into
UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler.

9830.021, March 29 at 2224, VOT English direct is only S6/S8,
undermodulated but no RTTY; at 2236 via UTwente when measured, very
undermodulated in `Did You Know That` feature about a museum with
virtual tours. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. Richard Langley follows up on the WOR iog:
``I had the time of the English segment wrong. Indeed it is now
shortly after 0000 UT rather than 0100 UT after the clock change.
Airing at same local time. So Dave Kenny was right at least for the
29th. I had thought of that but the segment wasn't listed anywhere in
the day for the 28th. However, it was back today (29th) shortly after
0000 UT (03:00 in Kyiv) with the quickly speaking male announcer. It
looks like it was missing on the 28th due to airing a program on Pres.
Zelensky's interview with the Russian journalists. [As for English
missing on the 0500 SW relay on 7730:] Might it be that whoever
records the Internet stream for WRMI hasn't accounted for the time
shift? -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2131 monitoring: Since I`m already running
UTwente for Cairo chex, March 29 at 2234, I also check it for the
Tuesday 2230 WOR on 9955 WRMI, not aimed at Europe: it`s JBA under
heavy pulsing, OTH radar? not like Cuban jamming, adding up to S9/+10.
At 2239, Maryland SDR has very different Cuban pulse jamming only
underneath, S9+5/10. Then St Lucia SDR? Buried in high noise level.
Minneapolis? S7/S9 without jamming. At 2250, Bonaire? both Cuban PJ
and OTHR? mar WOR. See also USA: WTWW. Next:

1000 UT Tuesday Unique Radio, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[probably not starting until next week]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW [new]

NC, who sent a generous equinoxial check on a US bank to

woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 9940, March 29 at 2250 after checking out WOR on
WRMI 9955 at UTwente with huge rapid pulsing QRM, OTHR? I explore its
approximate bandwidth: 9935-9965, peaks about 9940-9945 and a signal
is barely visible/audible amid on 9940. Of course it`s WTWW, as soon
confirmed direct in the clear at 2255, S9+15. So maybe that`s the
target of such ``jamming``? It`s still clattering past 0048 March 30
recheck covering 9930-9960 into Maryland SDR, after WTWW is off.

Ted recently got publicity on WSMV Nashville about how he is trying to
cheer up Ukrainians with music, no news --- but now he`s outright
preaching! 9940 has been active a lot lately in our afternoons,
presumably aimed at Europe. WTWW hours are always to put it politely,
flexible, so what about this on the WTWW.us website? Of course not!
But https://wtww.us/pages/schedule.php
does show a totally imaginary multi-lingual Bible broadcast on 15810
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0139 UT March 30
