** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Jan 26 at 1528, JBA S4 talk, 1529 music, 1533 ``Nacional Antártida Argentina`` ID, into Campo, Brasil SDR, so LRA36 is active again on a Wednesday only. Seems to be off by 1544, not audible at Pardinho either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. At 0442 UT Jan 26, I posted this ASAP to the WOR, NRC, IRCA, ABDX, ODXA and AMFMTVDX groups; and here slightly updated: CHHA cedes 1610 modulation to CHRN --- 1610 kHz: from 0345 UT Jan 26, I have a rather strong open carrier with some hum, S Asian music and talk underneath which continues past 0400 contrary to CHHA`s year-old program schedule from Toronto which shows on weeknights: 0200 UT Tagalog, 0300 Italian, 0400 Portuguese, not until 0500 Punjabi. Similar situation at the Milton Ont KiwiSDR, where it does not sound like a near-local signal. It certainly does tune below 1.8 MHz. Anyhow this OC must not be a new or nearby TIS. IRCA Mexican log shows a CP as of 2021, power unknown, for a XESCAA in Zacapú, Michoacán, R. Cultural del Villa de Carbón, SA. Nothing much yet on the Brownsville SDR. At 0406 the S Asian station with AC 514 ad and address of 595 Victoria Ave. 0421 with CHRN ID after some ads. So Montréal`s Asian station is making it thru tnx to CHHA in dead air. Both loop about the same from here, NE/SW. CHRN occasionally surges while CHHA carrier fades. Have not heard CHRN before as CHHA is right between us. CHRN is only 1 kW, while CHHA is 10; but CHRN recently added a relay in Brampton Ont on 1350. ` It`s Radio Humsafar, but referred to everywhere merely as ``Asian`` --- but which language(s), in particular the one right now? Still past 0437 and not a peep from CHHA. 73, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, USA After first hearing it direct, further obs via the Milton SDR. 0444 Montréal ad in English; 0555 a 514 AC ad, Laval mentioned, still under the CHHA OC. No ID heard around 0600. Back to direct for final check: 0708 still dead air atop CHRN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, Jan 26 at 0718, RHC English still on with humbuzz, and 6100 clear; 5040 Spanish; but rest of The Cuban Five, 9700, 6000 are off. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side --- the other Guantánamo: ``Cuba: A Good Island for Torture: The Shakira, El Potro, and Cama Turca are names that prisoners have given to some of the harsh punishments inflicted at Cuban prisons. The regime denies them, but more and more accounts have been conveyed. DIARIO DE CUBA presents a broad sampling of them in this report. Cairo check into UTwente: no signal locking, but the random tones, altho brief lox show 9899.523/524, presumably not a Cairo remnant (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SINGAPORE. 7355, Jan 26 at 1624, English language lesson for Koreans, ``the most serious``, S9/+10 and hardly anything else left on 40m SWBC band, not even NZ 7390 scheduled until 1650. It`s BBC via Kranji at 1530-1830, 250 kW at 25 degrees, which is aimed across Alaska right at Enid far beyond; but should be useful for any North Koreans around here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 12030, Wed Jan 26 at 1618, S9/+10 of dead air in Spanish from REE; while JBA 11685 is modulating talk at 1620, but 12030 is still dead: the E hemisphere channels, while the WHem ones 9690 & 11940 will not be on until 1900 weekdays. Something`s always nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 26 at 2257, VOT IS at S9+5/15 into Knoxville SDR over BBC Oman not closed quite yet. Opening English at 2300, into UTwente, undermodulated with squeal but readable; 2348 direct reads S9+10/20 but undermodulated and not readable; at 2350 it`s S9+50 into UTwente! sufficient with IS, no squeal, over CCCCCCI ripple until 2357* DSDTürkei cut off after first spurious German ID, uncovering Urumqi, standard remark. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2122 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Not checked since asleep Wed Jan 26 at 1030 on WRMI 5850; but Richard got it, above. Also confirmed Wednesday January 26 at 2200:21 on WBCQ 7490+, S7/S8 into W8BUG SDR Knoxville displaying carrier offset +185, up to +190 Hz by 2230. But measured direct at 2232, only 7490.160; then calibrating W8BUG vs WWV, claims 5000.021 and 10000.041 and varying slightly! So at 7.5 MHz it would be reading about .031 high, and WWV certainly not varying! So that makes my own measurement much more accurate. Trans-Oceanic JBA MW carrier searches: not much lately with depressed condx, ``mid-winter anomaly``? Jan 26 at 0342, only detected are 684, 999 and 1107, all likely Spain. I try again Jan 26 at 0710 and detect only these very weakies: 837, 1017-2, 1107, 1215-2. 1017 not a common TA, intriguing, could reactivated A3Z TONGA be participating? Certainly possible as Nuku`alofa sunset was 0627 UT. Otherwise could only be two 10 kW in Spain. However not getting any TPs on 846, 1098. About 1017 Tonga, this is pertinent, via Steve Whitt, MWCircle iog: ``Tonga update --- 1017 TONGA A3Z, Nuku'alofa. The recent earthquake [sic] and tsunami definitely haven't affected the signal from this DU blaster, with S9 peaks every morning. The usual male announcer is booming at 1448 on 01/18 https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/t4k86icb6e2orjq7cit4ih9o48tn4u5n Usual female announcer introduces S9 island music at 1503 on 01/19 https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/n0h4jyrgig04l5jzfu6j9wm19qfx0ycd Gary DeBock (DXing at the Rockwork 4 ocean cliff from January 18-21). Yes, Steve, despite the dreary conditions and the recent earthquake and tsunami in Tonga, I can assure all the MWC members that 1017-A3Z's signal is not only unaffected, but stronger than ever. Last week at the Rockwork cliff (in Oregon) it was an S9 blaster every morning enhancement session, making me wonder if perhaps the salt water tsunami had boosted the ground conductivity around the antenna site, resulting in an enhanced transoceanic signal <g> Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1710, Jan 26 at 0713 UT, JBA music, presumably a N American pirate - hit here at end of a 9-kHz MW carrier search (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0039 UT January 27 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
