Obs mostly longitude 50 or less, nothing to do with Hurricane Ida. NMG N.O. sked at 1715-1750. 1752 robotic voice with Norfolk address, originating there? 1753 finally mentions Ida landfall briefly, on to Juliet; ``This is US Coast Guard Communications Command, out out`` and off 1755.5* = 5.5 minutes later than sked. No individual station ID. Recheck at 1823, fax beepery approx. 12790 as sked 1800-2105 for NMG. Nothing ever audible on 8502 or 4316 and suspect not really on air in daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 870, Aug 29 at 0638 UT, WWL New Orleans apparently live with calls about Hurricane Ida; Cuban whoop-whoop QRM comes and goes, usually JBA underneath but some surges. Of course, WWL is easily the dominant signal here, scarcely one megameter away. It will be interesting to hear whether it be knocked off the air, not to mention WRNO 7505, which is anyway erratic; check at 0100-0400. Many listeners afar have complained about whooping: apparently a very much-out-of-order Cuban transmitter rather than deliberate jamming, and similars have shown up on other frequencies. WRTH 2021 has three R Relojes on 870, 10 kW each at Bueycito, Granma, and Baracoa-Van Van, Guantánamo; 1 kW at Sancti-Spíritus, S.S. The first two are in eastern Cuba while S.S. is in central Cuba, more likely to be the whooper except it`s lowest-powered. IF this info be correct, current. Terry Krueger`s Cubalist has not been updated in exactly 5 years; back then, it showed on 870 one Reloj in S.S.; the Baracoa Reloj on 860 instead; R. Progreso also on 870 in S.S. per WRTH 1997; and a Progreso in Pilón, Granma. DXers closer to north of Cuba ought to be able to get DF bearing on the whooper, from which part of the Great Antille? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (5085), UT Sun Aug 29 at 0020, WTWW-2 $ tereo webcast of TOUTA is already underway; in fact wrapping up at 0025 with `Mr Sandman` until 0027, back to Ted`s hard-sell commercials. Must have started very early circa 2356 Saturday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1948 UT August 29 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
