Pretty good signal now if only 5 kW as Ivo says, but not 500 kW again yet. And only 14 Hz off-frequency! WBCQ own schedule does not show which languages at which times, but Aoki says Spanish at 0600-0757. This could be a CCI problem for Cuban Spy Numbers after 0700. However, HFCC claims this bihour be in English, only 250 kW at 280 degrees not toward any SS-land; while Spanish at other hours should be on 76, 180 or 220 azimuths (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7489.9v), UT Sat Aug 14 at 0000, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`, the whole show a conversation between Allan and `Pirate Joe`, J.P. Ferraro on the phone --- -9180 line is hummy so change to -0982. We hardly hear a word from Angela altho she still gets top billing. The guys are reminiscing on the 50th anniversary of Aug 12, 1971, when their first pirate radio stations were busted by the FCC. Do you remember this? that? Back and forth. A lot of details I don`t try to copy. They had been on the air since 1969 in Yonkers NY, first on MW 1620 when the band ended at 1600; then to FM 108.1 but soon 87.9 to avoid causing any QRM. 50 watts power carried a lot further on FM than on AM with no ground plane. Mentioned calls briefly: WFSR-AM as in Falling Star Radio or Free Speech Radio; WSEX-FM; WKOV-AM and one more I missed. Finally down to business at 0055 about the axual FCC raid. The Feds visited Allan`s place at 5 am, and JP`s at 8 am on the same day. They let the air out of one tire of JP`s 1953 Plymouth so he couldn`t flee. The two were handcuffed together, spent a few hours in jail along with rapists, who avoided them once they said they were in for pirate radio. Pled guilty of federal misdemeanors, violating Communications Act of 1934; Allan`s dad, a lawyer, bailed them out. Got probation for one year, no fines: these are the roots of WBCQ. They do never get to later pirate activities long before WBCQ and WHVW would be licensed. Update on the SuperStition: still waiting for replacement PA tube, meanwhile on unspecified low-power backup. 0059 prayer, 0101 join Hal Turner late as seems to be the case every week now. John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started on time on 6160 and 7490. Allan later announced they were also broadcasting on 3265 and 4790. Allan and Angela in the studio. Opening talk about the heat in Northern Maine-ninety degrees today. Some more talk about Angela's affinity for the small wild animals around the station. Main topic of tonight's show is to be free radio and Allan starts with the history of his first pirate stations when he was a boy. Pirate Joe is to join him on the phone for the talk. Phone call at 0010 has problems with the audio so Allan has him call in on another line. The two of them start to talk of their early radio stations as yesterday was the fiftieth anniversary of the FCC raid that shut them down. Noise starts to come up around 0018 making it difficult to copy as the volume on the phone is so low it's difficult to hear Pirate Joe. They talk about their first meeting and the early days of their pirate stations. Signal covered over by some sort of noise around 0040 that just gets worse. Can't copy a thing. The same noise is on 6160 and 4790. I go back to 7490 and listen to the rest of the show but all I can hear is noise. Sorry.
