** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Wed Aug 11 at 1447, NO signal from LRA36 into two Brazilian remotes. Wed used to be their primary day, last week followed by additional Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun, but not Mon or Tue. Wonder if they were running out the clock before a prolonged hiatus? Maybe not. Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, forwards a note in the form of jpg which I translate:
``THE NEW LRA 36 --- Today 16:23 --- Dear Audience, we inform you that due to adverse meteorological conditions, unfortunately we are not able to emit the program on shortwave. Our sincere apologies for this; we are working to resume the service again. Thanks for your unconditional support`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, Aug 11 at 2302 and later, NO signal from RHC English, but audible on noisy 5040. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, Aug 11 at 2157, VOT IS and IDs in English, on the air today after at least two days missing; S9/+20 into Maryland SDR but undermodulated; still past 2230 COVID-19 PSA while I was mainly listening to the competition from Spain; 2250 direct, already dead air and soon off. Had a much stronger signal here than REE 17855, equally strong there and louderly modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2098 monitoring: as usual I sleep thru the 1030 Wed on WRMI 5850, August 11. Did anyone hear it? When it is on, I wonder if anyone is axually listening, by chance or intentionally, in the Pacific or east Asia when this is prime evening time? Confirmed Wed Aug 11 after 2100 on WRMI 7780, good S8-S9 via NA5B SDR in Maryland which shows carrier offset only +0.2 Hz. And about 21 seconds later on WBCQ 7489.9, carrier +1.5 Hz; same meter strength S8-S9 but then to +10. Louder modulation on WBCQ. Both marred by storm crashes as there is a huge line from Louisiana to Vermont including the WDC area. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: no new contributions this week which might have been via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA. Next new WOR 2099 should be ready by early UT Friday August 13 for download and first SWBC at 0130 on WRMIs 5850 & 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, Aug 11 at 2258, this WRMI is still off like last night; #5 transmitter supposedly 24h mainly TOMBS or SMTV, but briefer segments of Family Radio, RAE. 285 degrees, same azimuth as 7730 #13 but always much weaker than it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4790, Aug 11 at 0615, TOMBS via WBCQ, allegedly 50 KW, is VP, with some CODAR QRM both plus and minus. So this is not so ideal a frequency after all (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4840, Aug 11 at 0616, WWCR with S9+30 of DEAD AIR AGAIN, rather than TOMBS. Standard remarx (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Altice/Suddenlink cable TV interrupts whatever channel we are watching and presumably all of them for a nationwide emergency alert test, Aug 11 at 1822 UT -- as we dodge for the mute button, and also quickly turn on the R75 for a MW bandscan, but by then, no sign of the test, all ops normal. The nominal time for it was 1820 UT; it seems that overtaking OTA broadcasting and cable is now an afterthought to these: https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20210611/fema-and-fcc-plan-nationwide-emergency-alert-test-aug-11-test-messages-will (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2348 UT August 11
