Glenn Hauser logs May 25, 2021
Wednesday, May 26 2021

Hauser
** CANADA. 28193-CW, May 25 at 2226, along with all the US beacons in
sporadic E opening, VE4ARM/B. Loop starts with 17 E`s, then VVV DE
VE4ARM/B and a lot more probably location and/or grid square. WJ5O:

28.193 VE4ARM C AUSTIN, MB # 5W, GP

The # mark in this listing means ``confirmed as active or heard``, but
what means GP?. QRZ.com has nothing about a beacon, but it`s:

VE4ARM Canada flag Canada, MANITOBA AMATEUR RADIO MUSEUM INC. C/O DAVE
SNYDAL, 25 QUEENS CRESCENT, BRANDON, MB R7B 1G1 Canada.

Austin MB is not near Brandon but allegedly halfway between there and
Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada Hwy; not in my Rand McNally atlas (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 15244.958, May 25 at 1454, JBA carrier off-frequency,
i.e. VOK French as scheduled only. After 1500, however, both it and
CRI via Kashgar, East Turkistan, land of ChiCom imperialist genocide
against Uyghurs and other Moslems, would clash in English on 15245,
per Aoki. OTOH, VOK continues to be plus 13760 circa 13760.2 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 92.5 WBFM, May 25 at 2200 UT, KOMA-FM OKC is playing a
jazzed-up band version of the state anthem, ``Oklahoma``. The lead-in
to it is unrecognizable, and the lead-out coda includes a few notes of
``Boomer, Sooner``. I suspect this be a daily ritual at 5 pm local,
anywhen else? Listen for it on webcast if necessary.

This was amid an FM DX opening which failed to produce anything here,
despite a few 88+ MUFs on the DXMAP, even 103 MHz to the NW which is
what got me to start tuning: mainly somewhat open frequencies 92.1 &
92.9 shifting back & forth across KOMA. Some music surged up at 2155
UT on 92.1, but proved to be only KFXI, Foxy 92 from SW OK. The Es
opening continues poking barely above 88 MHz somewhere, past 0125 UT
May 26 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, May 25 at 2217, NO signal from REE to US again today,
off or not propagating? Tuesday is an off-day for English, anyway:
never on T-days; nor S-days. 15520 is poor S3-S6 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, May 25 at 2216, VOT English is on today, lacking RTTY
QRM, but poor S9-S6. By 2248 music is good at S9+10, and keeps going
2254 with IS, 2300 TS and opening bonus German, but off by 2340
recheck, so no Brazuguese at 0000 this time. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler.

[non] Besides Spain on M/W/F, there are NO overseas SW broadcasts in
English for us at 22-23. Romania is on but unsuitable: 5945 & 7310
Galbeni to western Europe, too low for us in summer; 7325 & 9790
Tsiganeshti to Japan; and one or two of them out of order (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660 kHz, May 25 at 0615 UT, some 24 hours after 50/50 kW U2
KTNN Window Rock AZ was in well, no sign of it with KSKY Dallas
nulled, lending credence to my conclusion that it were ND then instead
of properly restricting signal to the east (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28204-CW, May 25 at 1832, DE W0WF/B VVV -- call repeated
numerously before a blip and VVV seems to be at end of loop rather
than start. HF sporadic E opening. WJ5O`s 10m beacon list shows:

28.204 WØWF * SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI # 20W, VERTICAL (*) Daylight New
16 June 14 --- that`s rather close under 500 miles. Note that the
number in call is zero, but this list uses the Scandinavian *letter*
crossed-O instead! QRZ.com does not:

``W0WF USA flag USA, JERRY D WATTS, SAINT CHARLES, MO 63303 USA
IF YOU COPY MY BEACON ON 28.204 PLEASE E-MAIL ME A SIGNAL REPORT AND
YOUR LOCATION TO W0WF.B@AOL.COM``

28285+CW, May 25 at 1834, JBA beacon split below 28286. Five in USA
are listed, NY, TX, AZ, FL, none of which correlate with the ones
IDed. Could narrow down with preciser frequency.

28281-CW, May 25 at 1841, DE W8EH EM79 --- heavy fading so many
iterations necessary to copy. It`s:

28.281 W8EH C MIDDLETOWN OHIO # 8W, GP VERTICAL --- QRZ.com:

``W8EH USA flag USA, ERNEST W HOWARD, JR, MIDDLETOWN, OH 45044 USA
W8EH/BEACON: 10 meters on 28.281 MHz in Middletown, OH. It is running
7 to 8 watts to a Cushcraft Ringo 20' above ground at 860' elevation.
If you want a beacon reception report confirmed by card, please send a
SASE, or addressed envelope and IRC. If you just want to tell me you
heard the beacons, just drop me an email.``

28199.5-CW, May 25 at 1850 UT, DE WA4OTD/B CARMEL, IN --- NOT listed
by WJ5O on this frequency but instead only at:

28.2788 WA4OTD C CARMEL, INDIANA # 5W, attic dipole New 19 Oct 2010

The seldom used comma character between CARMEL and IN is --..--
Even his QRZ.com page has the wrong frequency!

``WA4OTD USA flag USA, Leroy S Wignot, Carmel, IN 46032 USA
The 10M beacon on 28.278.8 MHz, is running again! Listen if you get a
chance and send signal report if you hear it! Wignot@yahoo.com. The
beacon is HTX-100 running 5 or 25 watts into dipole at 40 feet in my
attic.``

Around same time, 1838 UT, WWV audible on 25000; CB pileup on 27025-AM
but little else; no phone activity on 18 or 28 MHz; no hams at all on
24 MHz; no beacons or anything on low end of 50 MHz. As usual, 6M
DXMAP shows lots of sporadic E activity but mostly well below the 88+
MHz FMBC band threshold.

Another session starting at 2221: 28199.5, WA4OTD/B IN still in.

28286.5, May 25 at 2222 & 2304, WB6BIN from Long Beach CA again today

28193, VE4ARM: see CANADA. I`m mainly interested in beacons, but quick
tunearound for other Es: 27555-USB at 2307 freebanders, also 27440. CB
AM pileups 27285 & 27025 full of hets at 2308. A few phone contacts on
10m: Traverse City mentioned on 28350-USB, from or to? Are there any
ham beacons on 18, 21, 24 MHz? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2087 monitoring; next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to William Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, for a check on a
US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, ``in observance
of my second Moderna COVID-19 shot on Mon 3 May 2021`` --- that`s a
good idea!

One may also contribute via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com
[not necessarily in US funds]. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 11835, May 25 after 0600, routine bandscan detects no
signal at all from RV`s 3rd harmonic; off the air? Same 24 hours
earlier. However, NZ 11725 much weaker than usual so maybe just
propagation. Is really off, as Ron Howard reports May 25:

``[WOR] Radio Vanuatu currently off the air! Radio Vanuatu - Recently
noted off the air; no trace of a signal on their usual frequencies
with random checking. May 25, from 0530 to 0930 UT. Also per Bryan
Clark (May 24) - "No trace on 3945, 5040 or 7260 at present, at
1930 UTC." Ron, California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report despatched at 0129 UT May 26
