** ALASKA. 9535, March 24 at 1502 as I tuned in, the KNLS IS heard once and then VP algo. But sked for Chinese at 1400-1500 only, so next language/frequency must have come on late. Was checking whether Cuba were off already instead of 1600* during standard time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, March 24 at 1521, LRA36 is on the air again on a Wednesday afternoon; good S7-S8 into Pardinho, Brasil SDR; music, frequent IDs, talk segments. Waterfall tuned as above displays signal with sharp edges 15476.2 to 15478.7, i.e. 2.5 kHz wide, on the upper side. But since it still shows same after sign-off with no signal, that must be an artifact of the remote`s USB bandwidth rather than of the incoming signal alone. Back to 1525: another canned ID; talk segment concludes with despedida until next miércoles --- but does not sign off, back to music. Seems they are playing brief pre-recorded segments. 1538 as if signing on again, ``a partir de este momento``, then in German and English saying that they are in Spanish, duh, and a fourth language, at first I thought Italian? At 1545.5 yet another ``sign-on``, this time fourth language more like Japanese? 1549 song about Antarctica; 1549.5 YL greeting in the ``17th`` program, mentions station personnel, discussion; 1556 contact info. 1605 another canned ID, part of which goes, ``Nacional, Antárdida Argentina --- la radio pública``. 1615 ID and more talk about COVID-19; 1618 email address, QSL offer; mostly discussion about the ejército, as after all, this a paramilitary if not totally military operation; ``en todo el país``; 1648 recheck still talking but chopped off air abruptly at 1650*. Come to think of it, never noted them with the name ``Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel``, but maybe missed it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA [non]. 11985, March 24 at 2107, S7-S9 sorta English: it`s AWR MADAGASCAR in Nigerian Pidgin --- heavy accent, but occasional words and phrases in clear English, all mixed up (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [non]. 341-MCW kHz, March 24 at 0606, still no EI Enid, ND beacon, but after several stops and restarts, I still expect it back, sometime. Instead, JBA DNI, which is 25 watts from Sherman-DeNIson, Texas just across the Red; not often audible, but now instead of or atop, OIN, Oberlin, Kansas. I`ve yet to hear plenty of other 341s listed in the Conterminous, Alaska, Canada, Greenland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 12120, March 24 at 1454, Chinese under RTTY and CODAR; VOA Tinang and jamming scheduled 1400-1500. 9825, March 24 at 1457, rock music S5-S7 with flutter, off at 1500. Another VOA Chinese via Tinang and jamming, 1000-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 24 from 2300, REE token English, VG on NAm frequency as heard in VA SDR, S9+10/40, Alison Hughes with a well-done comprehensive news review - of the whole past week? Since most broadcasts do not deal with hard current events. I also like her voice and style, but could not help noticing her mispronouncing Sergei, and Angela; interspersed bits of music until 2327 flamenco fill playout. From next week this is expected to shift one real UT hour earlier to 2200 M/W/F, as usual due to the irrelevant imposition of DST in Spain. This is totally irrational. First of all, by longitude, most of Spain should be on GMT, as the Greenwich zero-meridian goes down the east coast. The zulu timezone should extend 7.5 degrees east and 7.5 degrees west from there. Which means that the NW corner, Galicia, *should* be on UT minus 1! Since Spain normally is effectively on DST already, UT+1, this means most of the country will be *two* hours ahead of mean `solar` time, and Galicia, *three*!! Furthermore, advance publicity of A-21 schedule claims that the NAm beam will be only on 17855, from morning on the weekends, all afternoon, and as long as on air evenings until 0200* UT = 9 pm CDT, after sunset here and the entire path in darkness. We can only hope REE come to its senses and QSY down to, say, 9690, no later than 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 24 at 2302, VOT English to us manages to be on the air today unlike yesterday, VG with ID and announcer name during the news; as heard at UTwente, VG S9/+20. From next week, March 28, this is to shift to 2200 on 9830 vs NAU PR RTTY, whenever it manage to be on air at all. Last year the RTTY would sometimes be off by 2200, but not dependably (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 8992-USB // weaker 15016-USB, March 24 until 1506*, last part of alfanumeric crypto message with deliberate echo and whine, outro as ``message of 37 characters; this is Uncle Joe, out``. unID US military exercise with ever-changing tactical calls, suspected originating from Andrews (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A.
