China to pull BBC News off the air, state broadcast regulator says.

Chinese-language content is not the subject here anyway. BBC World News
is an exclusively English-language TV channel, its cable distribution in
China was reportedly quite limited (not part of packages available to
"ordinary" people) and routinely censored:

So it's rather a symbolic step in retaliation for Ofcom withdrawing its
licence a week ago, likewise resulting in the program being removed from
British TV platforms immediately. By the way, can anyone open

What I find much more interesting is how the BBC is now out in Hong Kong,
too. So far no statement from them. I'm curious if they will again go the
appeasement route like in 2017 when RTHK had already relegated them to the
night hours or will, perhaps, communicate the development this time in the
same manner than recently the end of their cooperation with Aaj TV in
Pakistan, thus making RTHK managers losing their faces.

After investigation, the relevant content of BBC World News's
China-related reports seriously violated the relevant provisions of the
"Regulations on the Administration of Radio and Television" and the
"Administrative Measures for the Landing of Overseas Satellite TV
Channels", violated the requirements that news should be truthful and
fair, harmed China's national interests and undermined China's national
unity.

Does not meet the requirements for the landing of foreign channels in
China, the State Administration of Radio and Television does not allow
BBC World News to continue to land in China , and will not accept its
application for landing in the new year.

RTHK dropped the radio service in 2017 year:

Related to this, CGTN is off the air in Germany from today after the Ofcom
license was revoked. Many European countries recognize broadcast licenses
from other states to allow for trans-national television and it seems like
CGTN was relying on the Ofcom license in Europe.

Opinion divided in Hong Kong over move to stop relaying BBC

By BBC Monitoring
Commentators in Hong Kong are split over a decision by the local
public-service broadcaster to stop airing BBC World Service content.

State media in mainland China, however, are applauding the national
media regulator's decision to disallow the airing of BBC World News TV.

Hong Kong reactions

The pro-Beijing daily Wen Wei Po has supported the decision by local
public-service broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to suspend
the relaying of radio content from the BBC World Service, effective
from 12 February.

RTHK has also stopped airing a weekly programme in Cantonese produced
by the BBC Chinese Service.

A day after these developments, Wen Wei Po has reported a reaction from
Leung Chun-ying (see the image below), a former chief executive of Hong
Kong who's also an insider of the Communist Party of China, as he is
the vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference, a party advisory body.

The paper quotes a post from Leung on Chinese social media where he
reprimanded some RTHK members who consider the BBC a role model.

"Radio Hong Kong was set up for the need of the UK governing Hong Kong
and for the benefit of the UK. Please don't be naive any more," Leung
said.

He added: "Yes, RTHK is a public broadcaster. To be exact, it is a
public broadcaster in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of
the People's Republic of China, and not a public broadcaster in
Britain."

Leung then went on to say: "Back then, all the British government
departments in Hong Kong, including RTHK under the Broadcasting
Department followed the British flag. Today's RTHK must also comply
with the Chinese five-star red flag in the matter related to foreign
affairs."
