** AUSTRIA [non]. (91.9), Jan 1 at 16-18 UT, just enjoyed the New Year Concert from Vienna, via WUOT $ tereo webcast, penul-concluding as ever with the Blue Danube Waltz --- why do I keep thinking of Cashmere Bouquet? The American hostess voice-overing English comments, Lisa Mullins in Boston, needs to work on her German pronunciation, e.g. ``Musikverein``. A rather different version is scheduled on PBS TV tonight, 0300 UT Saturday on OETA, visual elements added such as ballet dancers, scenic views of nature and grand architecture (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 276-MCW kHz, Jan 1 at 0733 UT, dash and YEL, 200-watt ND beacon from Elliot Lake, Ontario; tuned to 275-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 7435, Jan 1 at 0528, heavy jamming against no R. Martí; also on 7355, 7335, each with a different sound. The temporary extension of RM to 0400-0600* was to expire after 5 December per HFCC; unsure if that soon but definitely gone now; why? That supposedly applied to 7435, 7355, 6030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6100, Jan 1 at 0525, RHC in Spanish instead of English with NYE special also commemorating the 62nd anniversary of The Revolution. Nothing heard on 11670 like last night. 6145, Jan 1 at 0525, RHC English again reverted to A-season frequency instead of 9700, // distorted 6000. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Heavy ice/snowfall seems to have knocked off some ND beacons normally heard on groundwave, 1441-1447 UT after sunrise Jan 1: 255-MCW, No SW, StillWater, nor earlier at 0731 UT 341-MCW, No EI, EnId, just OIN from OberlIN, Kansas 350-MCW, No RG, Oklahoma City, Will RoGers World Airport These are still on in the 1441-1447 UT check Jan 1: 267-MCW, HET, 25 watts from HenryEtTa OK; tuned to 265-USB 293-MCW, FBY, 25 watts from FairBurY, Nebraska, regular often ignored 332-MCW, IC, 400 watts from wIChita - pICnIC, Kansas; no Canadian QRM 338-MCW, TU, 30 watts from TUlsa; not often heard 407-MCW, HRU, 25 watts, HeRington, KansUs; regular; tuned to 405-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA [and non]. 11745.0, Jan 1 at 1455, S9 ME music and talk about Ibrahim; 1459 music modulation with some breaks in it. Similar strength to 11815 Turkey. This is Al-Azm Radio, the AFRTS of SA, so not clandestine as some calify it; see pages 357 and 522 of WRTH 2021, where it`s among `Clandestine and Other Target Broadcasts``, site presumed Jeddah but not confirmed. Often heard in bandscans but now I log it for the record. Google translates the name as ``Determination`` which seems quite appropriate for messing with a neighboring country`s affairs, Yemen. Meanwhile, the clandestine Republic of Yemen Radio is blocked on 11860 by Cuban jamming and R. Martí. It used to be well heard before OCB usurped. BTW, the American Forces Network does exist in SA via several FM frequencies in Jeddah and Riyadh (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 305-MCW kHz, Jan 1 at 0744 UT, mixture of two NDBs when tuned to 303-USB, very hard to untangle, but seem to hear ``ROM`` and ``OI``. These lead to: OI, 25 watts at Sioux City - Tommi, Iowa RO, 150 watts at Roswell, New Mexico (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also OKLAHOMA [and non] ** U S A. 13555, Jan 1 at 1448, HIFER beacon WV definitely copied, from Richwood, West Virginia, after trace on Dec 28. Now it`s better than trace of K6FRC California on 13565; at least there are no Cuban spurblobs today to avoid. But both encounter CODAR QRM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. At 7490 kHz that's a frequency error of 112.35 Hz. David`` That still seems awfully lax; a SW frequency that far off is bound to cause harmful interference to co-channel stations. I personally would tolerate no more than say, plus/minus 10 Hz. WBCQ is anyway beyond tolerance, typically lately up to 180 Hz high, but I doubt will be facing megadollar fines, increased by inflation index (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1816 UT January 1, 2021 - not 2020
