Good News: The MW transmitter of AIR Bhuj on 1314 kHz which was scheduled to be shut down this week will be kept on air for the time being due to the protests and representations made. The same is case with AIR Gorakhpur 909 kHz. Though their  old 100 kW transmitter was decommissioned last Saturday, services will now continue with a 10 kW mobile transmitter on same frequency. The 2x100 kW transmitters of  AIR Alappuzha 576 kHz also could not be  shut down last month  due to protests from various quarters. Now AIR is finding it difficult to shut down old MW transmitters due to heavy protests from  Politicians, AIR Staff and of course the  Listeners !  Hopefully broadcasts on old MW transmitters will continue till their natural death unless some "drastic" actions is taken by the concerned authorities (Prasar Bharathi). -- Jose Jacob, VU2JOS
