Glenn Hauser logs November 12-13, 2020

Hauser
** COLOMBIA? 4940, Nov 13 at 0111 quick check via TWR Bonaire SDR,
anonymous mystery missionary station is still going with gospel huxter
in Spanish. At night I can always get at least a weak carrier here,
and as late as 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ECUADOR [and non]. 1510.275v kHz, Nov 13, at 0117 I am looking for
R. Monumental, Quito, which was reported last night by Mark Connelly,
MA as off-frequency 1519.29 and thus an enhanced DX target. A few chex
in OK have not detected a carrier or het yet, so how about the TWR
Bonaire KiwiSDR? At first in SynchAM it shows a carrier as measured
above but then loses out to locking onto 1510.0 signals. I briefly do
hear some `Andean` music but can`t tell from which frequency.
Waterfall also has a JBV just-barely-visible trace on 1512.0, Sa`udi
Arabia on at this hour, unlike 1521??

At 0122 begins to dominate an American talkshow in English on 1510. No
Middle- or South-American likely in English except maybe Hosanna Radio
in Panama, but this unseems gospelic. Could it be WLAC Nashville? 50
kW night pattern has a notch toward Birmingham and Montgomery and
beyond. But since last summer, WLAC has been ND day and night, but cut
to quarter-power of 12.5 kW at night, which seems to be a standard FCC
allowance when something is wrong with a night pattern. And I suppose
it still is, for definite ID at 0129 as WLAC. Distance to Bonaire:
3251 km = 2020 statute miles = 1755 nautical miles; and most of the
miles on the path are nautical, not thru Alabama, but Jaxonvil and
Port-au-Prince (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 900, Nov 13 at 0137, bigsig in Spanish with ads, then
``Doble-U Radio, 96.9`` ID, so XEW just like in old times maybe with
some southern enhancement. IRCA Log shows 250/250 kW but we long
suspected it was underpowered; WRTH shows only 100 kW. For many years
another XE was in the way and still in WRTH 2020, XEOK in Monterrey,
but Log shows XEW is now the only Mexican on 900, as surely befits its
super-power clear-channel status desde el centro (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 640, Nov 12 at 1326 UT, KWPN Moore is OFF. Hardly needed
with more stupid sportstalk on several other OKC AM&FM stations, e.g.
WKY 930 and WWLS 98.1 - former call of 640. Recheck at 0138 UT Nov 13,
it is back on and a major obstacle to KFI or anything else. While off
in the daytime, I should have sought WOI on groundwave or even
skywave. BTW, I have not heard any IBOC noise from KWPN in a long
time, altho still ``I`` in NRC AM Log 2020-2021.

BTW2, it would be hard to find [m]any state[s] with no AM stations
lower than 640 as in OK. With plenty of spare time, one could study
pages 253-274 of the NRC AM Log. Starting at the end, I see that
onesuch is WY, starting at 650 KGAB, which can barely make it here on
a very quiet day (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A. 269-MCW kHz, Nov 12 at 0701 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25
watts from Bloomfield, Iowa, due south of Ottumwa, closer to
Missouri. Believe it`s new here.

338-MCW kHz, Nov 12 at 0707 UT, NDB RYN, 400 watts from Tucson - Ryan
AZ.

344-MCW kHz, Nov 12 at 0709 UT, NDB JA, 400 watts from Jaxonvil -
Dinsmore, Florida; I was tuned to 342-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 2217-USB kHz, UT Thu Nov 12 at 0158 UT, surprise MARS net
hosted by AAR6SM, other calls mentioned, usually just the suffixes,
6AD, 6DE, 6RL. The 2 MHz band is a vast wasteland, which could have
been filled by MW fundamentals alleviating the terrible congestion
below 1710. Now hardly anything is heard but WWV and the Canadian
marine weather stations --- not even any MWDX harmonix for many months
despite thousands of stations which could provide them. Beacon `A` has
been gone from 2097.3 for months, but yesterday Harold Frodge in MI
was hearing single-letter `I` on ``2097``, so could that be the same
unknown site coming back, miskeying? Was it really 2097.3-CW? I don`t
get any significant search hits on 2217 or AAR6SM; must be
well-veiled. Anyone know where he be? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2060)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2059 monitoring: a couple of

WOR 2060 confirmed first broadcasts UT Friday Nov 13 at 0130 on WRMIs:
at Bonaire SDR, 5010 S9/+10, 5850 S7-S9 with noise similar to pulse
jamming which I have never heard at home. Here, 5010 is S9/+10 with
QRM from chirps about 5007, less than once a second and nothing to do
with WWV 5000 which BTW is weakened; 5850 S9+30 VG solid (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6905.9v, Nov 13 at 0112, no signal audible from ROCV
into nearby Bonaire SDR; recheck 0213 still inaudible but waterfall
has a visible trace of something. Last time I heard it, modulation was
distorted, so maybe it crashed. Gone forever or not? Was always music,
nothing political, so Maduro had no reason to crush it.

[non] BTW, there is a little-noticed clandestine/opposition program
for a long time on WRMI, `Acontecer Venezolano`. Current skedgrid
shows it only twice: UT Fri at 0100-0115, UT Sun 0215-0230 both on
9955. BTW2, Mrs. White, Thaïs is from Venezuela, no doubt with family
there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
