Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** DJIBOUTI [non]. 17870, Sunday August 16 at 1453, nice Horn Of Africa music on VG bigsig S9+10/20 via UTwente SDR, i.e. La Voix de Djibouti weekly clandestine listed as Issoudun site, FRANCE. No announcements until chopped off at 1459*. When last logged a biweek ago I had to go to Kuwait to hear it as hardly any UTwente sig, to be expected so close to FRANCE and skipping over: distance from Issoudun to Enschede is 684 km = 425 statute miles. If site has not changed, I suppose well audible now because plenty of sporadic E MUF over western Europe short-skipping (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 28166-CW, Aug 15 at 1854, JBA beacon a bit chirpy, VVV XE2O/B. Also heard recently, sporadic E, as in WJ5O roster: ``28.166 XE2O C ALLENDE, NL, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL NEW 30 Aug 2010 new call 7 Aug 11`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also USA ** U S A [and non]. 13200-USB, Aug 16 at 1351, Andrews [AFB, MD near Wash DC] in contact with some tactical call, don`t recall hearing them here before despite numerous CNR1 jammer bandscan passovers. However this is a major USAF comms frequency, in 2002y Klingenfuss guide, not only for AFA Andrews but also: AFI McClellan CA, AFS Offutt NE, AGA Hickam HI, AIE Andersen Guam, AIF Yokota Japan, AJE Croughton UK, AKA Elmendorf AK, CUW Lajes Azores, NAU USN Roosevelt Roads PR, XPH Thule Greenland. I wonder which of these still be active? Frequencies not measured exactly but listings seem correct. Note that some zero-land hams do not use the real figure zero in their calls, which is not crossed in most fonts, but the Scandinavian *letter* Ø which is, and which means you will not get a search hit unless also employed. This time a few widely-spaced phonehams also to be found on 10m: 28665-USB, Aug 16 at 1850, K4LO with repeated unfonetik but clear calls in contact, per QRZ.com: ``K4LO USA flag USA, PHILLIP N WILSON, PACE, FL 32571-2850`` 28425-USB, Aug 16 at 1847, CQ CQ CQ, KC4TVZ with fonetix, heavy southern accent, sounds like a recording, exactly same intonation with each repeat, and he barely leaves enough time between for a reply. The sporadic E VHF DX season is winding down now, but keeping an eye on the DXMAPs, afternoon of Aug 15, some MUF spikes above 90, even above 108 MHz, so it`s worth a try on the radio in the garaged but very hot parked car. Unfortunately, fringe Kansans are above normal messing up some `open` frequencies, so I wind up mainly exploring them for a dekaminute, 2235-2245 UT: At 2238, 101.3 Wichita with national and local ads such as Cavender`s, but CCI mentioning ``K-Love``. WTFDA Database shows this extensive network with 6 stations on 101.3, none of them near, max power 6 kW ERP, two of them translators in: NY, WA, CO, MS. I would not expect this to be overload from a local K-Love faraway frequency. At 2243, 105.9 with romusic in Spanish, none known in OK, JBA and fading, but likely just: ``KSSA 105.9 INGALLS KS 100.0 kW H&V, 203.0 m HAAT, 37-46-48 100-27-36 Spanish 415C KE BUENA KSSA...KSSA REGIONAL MEXICAN KE BUENA 105.9`` which is between Garden City and Dodge City (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 27385-LSB, Aug 16 at 1445, among freebander pileup one reveals he`s in northeast Tennessee; a prime such frequency, another being 27375-LSB; but no 10m hambeacons heard less than one MHz higher. DXMAPs show MUF spikes above 90 MHz, but FM band not checked yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1956 UT August 16 just after feeling an earth tremor yet to be checked
