** ASCENSION. 17745, May 25 at 1825, JBA carrier, off at 1833 check. 16m stations propagating are so precious that any sign of them is notable. This is the BBC Ethiopia hour, 1730-1830 one-third each in Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya per EiBi; strangely, Aoki has the last third an hour later at 1910-1930. It would be the OSOB except for VOA 17530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6000, May 25 at 0548, RHC English is S9+20 but just barely modulated/suptorted; 6060 is S9+20 but good modulation during music; 6100 is good, S9+20/30; 6145 is S9 but JBM; 5040 is S9+20/30 but with usual squeal. Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6880-USB, May 25 at 2353, pirate bandscan finds one here, S8 with soul song; 2358 ``Mix Radio International, in collaboration with Cool AM Radio``, jazz special. Many frequent canned IDs in different variations, some by YL voice, some by OM, as the music plays on. Another one at 2359 ``This is Mix Radio International, Worldwide``. 6878.5-USB, May 26 at 0010, I notice QRM on lowside from USB talking. It`s an Army MARS net, discussing QSY to alternate frequency M06 (?), then ``all stations, move to mike zero six eight``. In MARS, frequencies can never be uttered in clear speech! >From now on I am monitoring both at same time, always USB: Mix RI on PL-880 with reelout which is sufficient; and MARS on NRD-545 with magloop. And so this report *mixes* them together, I hope clearly: 0011 on 6880, MRI YL ID. 0012 on 6880, OM ID over music, mostly smooth-jazz now. 0013 on 6880, YL ID 0015 on 6818.5-USB, now I`ve found the alt. MARS frequency designated M068, obviously same net group and away from the pirate QRM. Mentions going back to check the other frequency, out. 0016 on 6878.5-USB, here they are again with QRM, but advising to go back to the other one to send message. 0017 on 6878.5, digital mode sent, voice: did you copy? No. They off and on utter abbreviated calls of 6 plus two letters, not always fonetikaly. Like: 0018 on 6878.5, 6AU and Charlie Hotel, are you ready? Affirmative. Ute-blast putting heavy QRM onto 6880 MixRI, but briefly. 0019 on 6880, YL M-R-I- ID 0027 on 6880, OM ID as before about Mix Radio International in collaboration with Cool AM Radio, this time only, heard with e-mail address for reports: mix.radio.international @ cruzanmail.com ? I am not at all sure of cruzan and it was not spelt, but seems like an apropos pirate name. 0028 on 6818.5, net contacts, 0029 digital blaaps; ``This is 6-C-B, all I got in your message were my call letters; send again; and again, this time with the other`s call. Finally some full callsigns: AAR6CU with AAR6AU; one advises the other about why message didn`t work, because cursor was at end of msg in MT-63. 0035 on 6818.5, AAR6CE spelt with a message to exchange 0036 on 6880, YL M-R-I ID and ``This is Mix Radio International Worldwide``; 0037 ``thanks for listening`` but not a closing yet 0038 on 6880, YL ``mix-mix`` 0039 on 6818.5, 6CB with 6CH; alternative is to transmit message by voice or get a relay. ``This is an exercise`` so time to work out the bugs now before a real emergency with a priority message. By voice, the code groups should be read with pauses between them, but this increases possibility of errors; and he examples a few random alfanumerix. 0043 on 6818.5, -CH and -CE, both with AAR6 prefices. 0044 on 6880, YL ID for Mix Radio 0044 on 6818.5, 6AU and 6CH will get together after the net to provide info about ``finding the frequency``. At this point I have enough and take a nap/rest; recheck at 0108, the MARS and MRI are all off. Many more reports here of Mix Radio International: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,67556.0.html only one refers to some ``ham QRM``; went off at 0058* I also search out the two MARS frequencies, and find that in years past, I had 6818.5 once and Harold Frodge had both. Of the full callsigns in this log, the only one getting useful hit on google search is AAR6CH, leading to a 33-page, 10+year-old embedded pdf about Texas Army MARS, including a photo of that op, http://docplayer.net/44567846-Texas-army-mars-lewis-thompson-aaa6tx-february-17-2010.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, May 25 at 2200, no signal here from VOT. Must have come on late; 2229 check via UTwente it`s VG with music, and nothing else noticed until 2252 COVID-19 advice; 2253 multi-lingual ID reel, no sign-off announcement, 2255 IS; 2256 restart IS with German IDs twice a minute but cut off air at 2259*. Something`s always awry at Ankara, erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6878.5-USB and 6818.5-USB, Texas Army MARS: See NORTH AMERICA mixed in with Mix Radio International 6880-USB ** U S A. 13565-CW, May 25 at 1406, HIFER beacon K6FRC in Patterson CA is JBA with repeating IDs. First time heard since March 28 despite almost daily bandscans, and never heard at any other hour later in the day. HF sporadic E today, DXMAP not checked until 1735, across much of the US altho not directly amid this path. The point of a beacon is for it to be always transmitting, alerting whenever there be a propagational opening, but I have my doubts about this one (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 17530, May 25 at 1825, VOA with African News, finishing by 1830 but when I detect a few-Hz SAH from a second transmitter until one of them goes off at 1832, presumably Grimesland despite poor signal with no sporadic-E boost, leaving a weaker single carrier with no modulation detectable, but scheduled until 1900 is another half hour M-F of VOA, in Kinyarwanda via ASCENSION (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2035 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday May 25 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, VG at Maine SDR. Also confirmed UT Mon May 25 at 0230 on WRMI 7778, VG at Maine, good at UTwente, but VP in high noise level here in OK off beamside. Also confirmed UT Mon May 25 at 0301 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5130, good at Maine SDR which might have seemed too close. Also confirmed UT Mon May 25 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, fair at Maine SDR generally above jamming; fair-good at Bogota SDR with no jamming audible. Also confirmed, UT Mon May 25 from 1800:45 on IRRS 7290 via unknown site, monitored via UTwente SDR, no cutouts past 1809. Tuned in at 1758 to hear open carrier except for constant low warble/RTTY which could be a clue as to site; 1759 JIP music; 1800 IRRS brief sign-on with only contact info the P O Box 10980 in N-20110 Milano, Italy; quick FSN headline news and right into WOR before 1801. Now there is no ACI from 7285 or 7295, but 7290 still sounds ``scratchy``, maybe splatter from 7280 Vietnam stilted Spanish and/or 7300 Iran in German. Also confirmed UT Tue May 26 at 0109 check the 0100 on WRMI 7780, VP here in storm noise level and with intermittent uteblaaps on LSB side or carrier QRM; VG at Maine SDR; G at UTwente but with rapid buzz/click QRM.
