WORLD OF RADIO 2034 monitoring: detailed listening for IRRS broadcast of 1800 UT Mon May 18 on 7290, via UTwente SDR in Holland, via home feeder on 90.7 MHz, notes transferred from original Little Caesar`s tan napkin during today`s home lunch of something else: 1750, 7290, Iran in Russian concluding and into IS, no IRRS yet 1753, Iran still on, opening Italian, of all languages, on wrong frequency! Again! and national anthem 1754.5, Iran starts Qur`an but then cuts off air, whew. Allah`ll get `em for that 1755.5, maybe carrier from IRRS, as the slight warble it conveys becomes audible; heavy ACI continues BTW, consensus among reliable monitors in Europe is that 7290 IRRS is NOT from Bulgaria or Romania, but UNKNOWN site 1757, IRRS power seems bumped up now, quieter but still ACI splash 1759, two bits of music mod cut on and off, presumably IRRS feed 1800-1805, dead air continues, no IRRS sign-on, no FSN headlines and missing WOR start 1805, WOR audio starts cutting on and off; again at 1806 1806.5, WOR audio stays on about 5 minutes into program, still ACI splash 1808, cut to dead air again 1809, cut WOR audio back on; I continue semi-listening and do not notice any further breaks but there may have been some 1829, cut off during my IRCA plug, back briefly, off again and rest of program lost, more dead air 1831, cut on Feature Story News JIP 1835, start The Shortwave Report as usual this late so its ending will get chopped off by 1859 Meanwhile after lunch I am checking the adjacent QRM which is unreasonably annoying, and find that Voice of Vietnam in German is on 7285 instead of 7280, at 1834-1836* 1836, 7290 IRRS SWR interrupted again by dead air except for hum, back at 1837 and not monitored further *1837, VOV German comes back on correct frequency 7280, which helps a little but still splashes upon 7290, 10 kHz away. Also during WOR, AM Synch, USB, LSB, AM, various bandwidths tried can never eliminate the QRM. But whenever modulating, still readable if you put up with it WOR 2034 also confirmed UT Tuesday May 19 at 0100 on WRMI 7780 direct, S8/S9+10, fair vs noise.
