Glenn Hauser logs January 26-27, 2020
Monday, January 27 2020

Hauser
** BRAZIL. 6180, Jan 26 at 2242, S9+10/15 of open carrier, probably
RNA which is fully modulating on 11780. CRI/Cuba relay does not start
colliding until 0100; only other 6180 at this hour in Aoki is CRI
Kunming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 218-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0728 UT, dash and RL, 975-watt ND
beacon at Red Lake, Ontario. Odd power, can`t make it to 1000?

245-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0730 UT, dash and YZE, 1000-watt NDB at Gore
Bay, Ontario.

274-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0740 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB at
Pikangikum, Ontario, per dxinfocentre.com one of those to be
decommissioned 2020-03-26. New one here, with only a bimonth to spare!
Where and what is Pikangikum? Ojibwe; all about it here:

``Pikangikum First Nation is located on Pikangikum Lake, approximately
100 km northwest of Red Lake, Ontario. It is approximately 15 minutes
by plane from Red Lake to Pikangikum.

Pikangikum is one of the largest First Nation communities in Northern
Ontario with the highest on-reserve population in Northern Ontario,
approximately 2,300. An estimated 75% of the population is under
twenty-five years of age...``
http://www.ifna.ca/article/pikangikum-116.asp

And here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikangikum_First_Nation

It`s near the NW corner of Ontario, across from Berens River, Manitoba
whence I heard another NDB lately. BTW, in CST/CDT timezone, far
enough west for that even in ON, i.e. beyond Meridian 90.

The beacon band is really hot tonight, something virtually every kHz,
or even two at a time. See also USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6977-USB, Sun Jan 26 at 2215, CFARS net (like MARS), NCS
``CW509`` in Winnipeg taking check-ins by segments in the 600s, then
700s, such as CW602, CW716. Gives them signal reports as received in
Wpg. Sure sounds like they are saying ``CW###`` but must really be
CIW### with the ``I`` swallowed, as in my Nov 27 log on 6961-USB at
2232. Where are these stations; a roster available? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Jan 27 at 1505, no signal from CHR, Trenton
Military, even tho 14670-CHU is in well. I`ve just realised that CHR
has not been encountered lately in random bandscanning. I leave a
radio on 15034 and still nothing heard by 1542. Nor at 1838 check.
I`ve not been clear about an hourly pattern for CHR, but it has not
been continuous. EiBi shows 1010-2400 with no breaks. No more ``no
report received`` to be heard? Nor have I heard it on 6754-USB upon
occasional nighttime tunebys. Further chex needed. So totally off,
temporarily, or forever? That would save a lot of commuting expense
for the announcer it shares with Gander! Hi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11860 & 11930, Jan 26 at 2220, pulse jamming against nothing
by this hour, but intermittently overlain atop the leisurely pulses
are some very fast pulses, approx. 10 per second, I had not noticed
before on these. Did not check whether they were synchronized (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 27 at 1839, RHC Spanish is overmodulated /
distorted; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND. 13264-USB, Jan 27 at 1508, VOLMET YL voice JBA, S1-S2;
strange mixture of English and metric measures; 1810 ``Shannon
VOLMET`` ID and forecast for Dublin. EiBi shows this at 1200-1800 only
altho not shared with any other station (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 7490.055v, UT Mon Jan 27 at 0110, `Encore`
classical music via WBCQ in well enough to hear on SW, but
unfortunately simulscheduled with new episodes of `Dr Who` on BBC
America; not to mention `The Simpsons` on Fox if they ever get back
with newies; and tonight the Grammy Awards which interest me zero even
tho they probably include token mentions of classical.

BTW, some weeks ago I was complaining that WBCQ webcasts were
overmodulated/distorted. I finally noticed that the preamp slider on
my Winamp equalizer was set full bore +12; I normally don`t fiddle
with EQ and unknown how it got that way, but that was the problem,
even tho WBCQ sounded worse than some others played (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 9281.6v, Jan 26 at 2224 extremely distorted squealyspur of
broadcaster, so on second radio I look for // from the nearby/stronger
signals on band: Not // 9350, 9395, 9455, 9565 -- but finally at 2236
I get a match of modulation peaks and pauses with 9690 REE!, 408.4 kHz
away, after listening to the mess for some 4 minutes. Equally above
that would be around 10099, possibly a JBA signal there (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 269-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0732 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25
watts from Bloomfield, Iowa; I was tuned to 267-USB. Where is that?
Just south of Ottumwa, in the SE.

281-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0741 UT, ND beacon DMO, 25 watts at Sedalia,
Missouri.

420-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0742, ND beacon PK, 25 watts from Olathe -
Herbb, Kansas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CANADA

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed Sunday January 26
at 2130 on WRMI 7780, very poor here on portable PL-880.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, VG via UTwente
SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0230 here on WRMI 9395, JBA S2-S3,
much better on 7780 S9-S8. Also #2018 confirmed on WRN NAm webcast.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0400 on Area 51 webcast, while via
WBCQ 5130 at 0425 check it`s poor S7-S9+10 peaks.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, JBA carrier under
pulse jamming; but good with no jamming audible at Bogotá KiwiSDR.
Next:

[7290 reception varies hugely at UTwente: sometimes VG, sometimes JBA
if at all, such as when checked Jan 26; fingers crossed for today:]

1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4980, Jan 27 at 0718, JBA music, maybe WRMI test? Normally
would be nothing here since WRMI dropped frequency several weeks ago
and then was only on until 0200. This is more like 5800 used to be
with far less than full power. Richard Langley, NB, had just reported
on 4980, Jan 27 at 0315: ``Checking a few frequencies when terminating
recording on 7780 kHz, I noticed religious music and English talk on
4980 kHz. WRMI back on this frequency?``

11580, Jan 27 at 1512, WRMI reactivated here with SMTV about vegan
diets, S9+10, and nothing on 15770, presumably replacing that --- a
very good idea propagation-wise as 15770 is usually JBA here altho off
the side of the 44 degree Euward beam, so is 11580 too? At 1840, still
no 15770, but 11580 is only S8 and just barely modulated.

Ivo Ivanov already assumes 11580 be a 100% replacement for 15770,
WRMI-9 at 1200-2300. (I noted 15770 was still on yesterday after
2200.) I.e. including the secret WORLD OF RADIO airing Saturday at
1300. Altho ``updated Jan 26``, the WRMI skedgrid as of 17 UT Jan 27
still shows nothing about 4980 or 11580! Nor is there anything recent
from WRMI on disgraced FB.

SMTV plugged their website for more info, so is 11580 given now at
https://suprememastertv.com/en1/worldwide/
Of course not, still 15770 and other WRMI frequencies with no specific
time schedules! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 1090, Jan 27 at 0700 UT, after legal ID, KAAY
Little Rock AR right into a string of PSAs all the way until 0703.5
another ID and only one sesquiminute of ToH dead air until gospel
music fires at 0705. Meanwhile could only make out XEAU TV infomercial
in Spanish, and the 1089 UK het (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13927-USB, Jan 26 at 2209, US military contacts on what
used to be an active trans-con MARS? frequency. Tactical or abbr`d
call 7KO? mentioned. A flight requests ``weather update for our
destination, KSWF - Stewart``. Had to spell KSWF several times
fonetikaly. Contact JBA. Another ID of one station or another sounds
like ``McCall 70`` -- or McCaw?

``Stewart International Airport, officially New York Stewart
International Airport, is a public/military airport in Orange County,
New York, United States. It is in the southern Hudson Valley, west of
Newburgh, and southwest of Poughkeepsie, approximately 60 miles north
of Manhattan, New York City. Wikipedia``

BTW, these airport designators starting with K are not the same as FCC
callsigns for broadcasters, nor coordinated with them. NRC AM Log
shows KSWF is not assigned to any station; but WTFDA FMdb shows KSWF
on 100.5 in Aurora, Missouri, unrelated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13970.9-USB, Jan 26 at 2208, 2-way in Spanish like the
in-band intruders (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report despatched at 1852 UT January 27
