** MEXICO. 1549.82, March 1 at 0725 UT, JBA carrier making het with
1550s, suspected XEREL. Earlier on Feb 28 I contacted Mike Jeziorski
in Querétaro:
``Mike, I`ve been getting a carrier late at night on about 1549.82.
Suspect it`s XEREL in Morelia - could you check that out? I`ve been
hearing it direct and on the Qro KiwiSDR - are you involved in that?
73, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, USA``. Reply:
Re: 1549.82 signal, Mike Jeziorski, To me · Sat, Mar 1 at 4:07 AM
``Hi Glenn, Thanks for your note. Tonight I started investigating my
archived TOH recordings from the past few days, when my W6LVP loop was
pointed directly to favor Morelia (142 km/88 mi). Here's what I know
so far:
I also see a carrier at 1549.822. Occasionally its amplitude rivals
signals clustered around 1550, where I typically hear non-IDer WPFC
{Bâton Rouge LA} or the Florida stations at night.
I had not heard anything from XEREL since April of 2024. However, on
my recordings this week from Feb. 26, at 0059 UTC I hear a station
giving the slogan "Radio Pública de Michoacán". That matches the
location of XEREL, but would be a rebranding. The 1549.822 carrier was
present but not strong when I heard that audio.
During my few years since returning to DX, XEREL has varied between
weak and regularly heard. I can't say that not hearing them in almost
a year means they have been off or weak, but they are far closer to me
than anyone else on 1550.
At the TOH around 1300 UTC, when Louisiana and Florida are in full
sunlight but my path to Morelia is in darkness, I can sometimes see a
signal on the offset, but not a strong one. I have not gotten audio at
that time.
The Kiwi currently listed in the state of Querétaro is in San Juan del
Río and is hosted by DXer René Chávez. My Kiwi is listed in
Juriquilla, Querétaro, but has been out of commission for a couple of
weeks due to a problem with the splitter/combiner I use. I will keep
looking into this. 73 Mike Jeziorski``
``Mike, Excellent, just the kind of info I am seeking. It certainly
seems like XEREL by elimination, doesn`t it? Maybe you can also get a
bearing on it with the loop or even a portable with ferrite if there
is enough signal isolated. Look forward to your further research. 73,
Glenn``
``Hi Glenn, Thanks. I don't believe in process of elimination with
Mexican stations -- there are too many unknowns. For one thing, if
XEREL is barely readable for me just up the road, are they really
getting out to Oklahoma? But part of the research will be figuring out
when the offset carrier first showed up on my recordings. I don't
think the W6LVP loop is precise enough to trust bearings, except
perhaps nulls. 73 Mike``
``Mike, OK. By getting a bearing I meant by nulling 90 degrees away...
73, Glenn`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.56, March 1 at 0727 UT, mystery carrier again
hetting 810 WHB. Let me explain a quick approximation of measurements,
good, I think to two, but not three decimal places on the NRD 545. In
AM mode, note the pitch of the het. Then in SSB mode tune up or down
in minimal steps till you hear the same pitch the main carrier makes,
reconfirm by punching up the main frequency for a match, and that is
where the off-frequency carrier is (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
