Glenn Hauser logs October 27-28-29, 2024

Tuesday, October 29 2024

B24 SCHEDULES at EiBi, Aoki/NDXC and HFCC are now linked from WOR
homepage http://www.worldofradio.com

** CHAD [non]. 9535, Oct 28 at 0608, YL in language with stingers,
S5/S7. Per EiBi this is now R. Ndarason International in Kanuri, 06-07
via Woofferton UK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [non]. 5910, Oct 28 at 0313, no signal from CRI relay via La
Habana as now sked at 0300-0500 per HFCC, ex-9790. COLOMBIA is
long-gone from 5910 but still in Aoki, not EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 7335, Oct 28 at 0307, pulse jamming against nothing, since R.
Martí is now on 7355, and 7435. So the jamming is back, wasting
precious pesos of electrical energy. RM changes its 7 MHz usage per
season for no obvious reason, but confusing incompetent jammers who
don`t pay attention to HFCC. RM so strong that cannot tell if jammed
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925 USB, Oct 28 at 0306, S9+10/20 of jazz, the
OPOB. These say it`s Wasteland Radio, a.k.a. Dilligaf Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,135802.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. Mon Oct 28 at 2245, REE found NOWHERE into UTwente or
Maryland SDRs, on A24 17855, 17715, 15520, 15390 nor B24 9690, 11940,
12030, 17755 frequencies! There have been some R1 blackouts per WWV
but there ought to be at least traces of something. Of course, I was
preparing to check if English would occur at B24 time of 2300,
especially on B24 for NAm, 9690. ¡¿Qué pasa?! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9610, Oct 27 at 2205, VOT English new time from
2130, and frequency, with `Letterbox` theme - just starting? NO,
ending. S9+20/25 into UTwente but heavy CCI. B24 EiBi shows CNR8 in
Mongolian, 100 kW, 286 degrees from Beijing site at 2055-0600. TRT
should have avoided this frequency.

5960.004-, Oct 27 at 2300, TS and s/on VOT English to NAm, new time
and frequency for B24, S9+35/40 into UTwente, but there is an
understation. This time it`s PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi in Mandarin, at
2300-0300 per EiBi, 2330-1800 per HFCC. I know this will be unusable
direct: yes, at 2307 S8/S9 below the noise level, but Urumqi probably
not a problem here. They need to have a `shoulder` season with
something less drastic than a drop from 12 to 6 MHz. Also, domestic
clock changes should not be imposed upon international listeners.

`Letterbox` starts at 2314, with another hostess, Sylvia? Says they
are trying different program presenters each week. Mentions that
frequencies have changed but no details, look them up somewhere. I try
to copy those called but as usual hard to understand the names. 1)
Burnett?, England. 2) Christer Brunström, Sweden, 20/10 report, again
against the multi-lingual ID filler reels, but guess what: VOT are
adding some more langs, including Norwegian, Korean, Japanese! for
total of 47. 3) India, about the Dewali festival. Music break at 2323.
5) Mohamed Bashir?, Pakistan. 6) Ricky Hein, from a phone call, wants
skeds. 7) Graham?, Indiana. 8) Chris ---, Canada. Closing with PO Box
33 address again, instead of 333 - which is correct? Does not spell
Yenishehir. 2332 music. 2335 L`Box outro (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9650, Oct 28 at 0606, YL in Turkish presumed news, with
stingers, S6/S8 direct; at 04-07 per EiBi, i.e. ex-13635 which was
easy every night but not logged (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Oct 28 at 2258 and still 2309, NO signal from
VOT English to us, which succeeded yesterday, but plenty signal from
Xinjiang PBS into UTwente, 5960.000 with Chinese music, dead air, 2300
5+1 TS and Xinjiang ID in Mandarin, i.e. EAST TURKISTAN. TRT should
QSY ASAP if they can even get on the air, but they need to inform
everyone whereto. I tuned UTwente around between 5800 and 6000, not
encountering any obvious TRT. Something`s always awry at Ankara and/or
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 9775, Oct 28 at 0312, VOA English with African accent,
about *rump being called fascist, S9+10/20. Now sked at 03-05 via
BOTSWANA and per Aoki, *jammed because can be heard in China, where
ESL is unfortunately rampant (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2266 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 27 at 2000 ex-1900 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.995 kHz, S9

were on the road from Artesia; anyone hear it?

someone allegedly heard WOR at that time. Next:

** U S A [and non]. WHAT`S GOING ON WITH WAVESCAN, from Ray Robinson:

``Hi, Glenn. We haven't communicated in some time, but I trust you are
well. You may be interested in some of the fallout from AWR's decision
to end the use of all shortwave relay sites.

Jeff White and I were provided with the new schedule for KSDA about 10
days or so ago, and the immediately obvious thing was that there were
no English language programs on the schedule at all, including no
Wavescan. We have sought clarification from a number of people at AWR,
but have not received any response. No one at AWR has informed us that
Wavescan has been canceled, but it seems that is their intention, at
least in so far as their own platforms are concerned. Jose Jacob in
India has confirmed that Wavescan was not broadcast via KSDA on
Sunday, and furthermore this week's edition has not been posted on
AWR's podcast page ( https://awr.org/program/engmi_wav ).

However, the show will very much continue in production with Jeff and
I, just as before, but I guess now just as 'Wavescan' and not 'AWR
Wavescan' any longer. To be clear, neither Jeff nor I have any
association with AWR, or with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Dr.
Adrian Peterson, Wavescan's Founder and Editor-in-Chief did of course,
but he is now in his mid-90's, and he retired from any active
involvement with the show some 18 months ago.

So, we are now in active negotiations to get the show carried by one
or two other shortwave stations with coverage into Asia. It will
continue on WRMI, WWCR, VOH-Africa and IRRS. And, there is now a new
podcast platform for the show, at:
https://wavescan.podomatic.com

This has the shows from the past couple of months, including the
edition that aired yesterday on some stations.

We see Wavescan as complementary to what you do on WOR, and not as a
competitor. I hope you'll help us get the word out that Wavescan is
continuing, and where it can be found.

Thank you, Ray Robinson, Los Angeles, Strategic Communications Group,
Voice of Hope World Radio Network, www.voiceofhope.com ``

My reply: ``Ray, Good to hear from you. Certainly I will publicize
what is happening. It seems you have been treated rather shoddily. I`m
not that surprised since it has long seemed to me that AWR HQ
considered WS not really part of AWR, not including it on official
schedules, at least when aired on non-AWR stations. I agree our
programs are complementary with your emphasis on history and mine on
the latest info. 73, Glenn`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9275, Oct 28 at 0311, WMLK with DEJOM, S9+20/37 direct,
stronger than neighbor in more ways than one, 9265 WINB. Now sensible
frequency usage at night, ex-15150, but why target Europe where it`s 3
or 4 am? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1539.95 approx., Oct 28 at 2200, obvious het vs 1540.00
stations. Nothing this far off in mwoffsets, but I remember a few
years ago KGBC Galveston TX was showing up exactly here; a bit early
before sunset now but maybe not too early on hiband. See my report of
Oct 11, 2020 at 0055. At 2330 I check the W5GMD Houston KiwiSDR, but
it appears to be deaf on MW: can`t even hear or see 740 KTRH! Try
Maurice LA SDR: signal pileup on 1540 but low audible het and SAM does
read out -22 to - 95 Hz. IIRC KGBC has had a number of problems last
few years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
