Glenn Hauser logs September 12, 2024

Friday, September 13 2024

** ALGERIA [and non]. 17600, Sept 12 at 1503, JBA carrier direct,
presumed Ifrikya FM which was missing yesterday, but now during
almost-blackout K index 7, hardly any other signals on band except
17790 WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [non]. Re: https://www.w4uvh.net/PopShop11990WOF.png ;
-- Tony Pavick [or #147 via:]
http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html ;
I wonder about source and significance of that art:

``Glenn -- the mural was painted by Ginkym Production Services Inc as
a backdrop for TV series that had an episode filmed here in Hope. It
is on the side of the 'King Pin Lounge' on Wallace Street. The series
is called Untamed and I think it will air on National Geographic TV.
The mural is to honour our First Nations people of the Sto:lo nation.
Hope was also the backdrop for the film Rambo: First Blood starring
Sylvester Stallone forty years ago. He blew up a bridge and our Shell
gas station! They replaced them after shooting the film. Tony Pavick``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2260)

** CUBA. Almost all RHC SW frequencies have been missing at various
random chex, Sept 11; maybe 6000 remains. Rick Barton, Sun City AZ,
Sept 10, says spynumbers are also missing: ``We reported weeks back
the return of the Cuban numbers stations, which then promptly
disappeared. If any Utility DXers have heard anything, we'd love to
hear from them. I was still trying to sort out the new schedules when
they went back off. My last recorded log was on Aug. 3. And it was
even before that that they dropped the morning numbers broadcasts from
1600-1857 UTC.``

That`s not surprising, since numbers and RHC obviously have been
sharing same transmitters, now almost all broken. CRI relays maintain
on 9790, Rebelde on 5025 (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2260)

The Other Side: ``The evidence of Cuba’s imminent collapse is
overwhelming --- CIBERCUBA September 9, 2024

It's September 2024, and Cuba is on the brink of a humanitarian
catastrophe. The collapse of the country's industries, infrastructure,
and public services is accelerating exponentially (problems are
multiplying rather than gradually increasing) due to 65 years of
accumulated deterioration under communist rule plus the regime's lack
of resources to fix the country's problems due to its disastrous
response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the loss of aid from Venezuela, and
the mass exodus of at least 11.4% of the country's population in 3
years (70% of them of working age). The island's energy, water,
transportation, and health infrastructure could collapse
simultaneously, as they are interconnected and a failure in one could
lead to failures in the others...``

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475 AM, Sept 12 at 0632, JBA S6/S7, sure sounds
like the tones of Josiah on Station YHWH, at a much later hour than
usual; and LSB tuning required because of utehash on the plus side.
EiBi shows only other 7475s: CNR1/Firedrake jamming at 23-24, and R.
Thailand English at 1800-1930. Aoki and HFCC Sept 11 show only
Thailand (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2260)

** OKLAHOMA. FCC change info for Sept 11: ``KOKJ-LP 95.1 Enid OK
initial calls for new station`` (via Mike Bugaj, WTFDA, FMDX-NA iog)
No sign of it on-air yet. Will overcome the radio war between KICT
Wichita and KQCV Bott OKC; and probably impossiblize the KOKC-1520
translator on 95.3 which really gets out, and difficultize what has
been a good ``open`` DX frequency 94.9. Would you believe that
searching FCC LMS on KOKJ hits instead DKOKJ-LP, Elk City TV deleted a
dekayear ago! FCC FM Query: zero results! We find it by searching on

UNIDENTIFIED. Noise level has abated enough and propagation improved
enough to uncover some JBA carriers on ND beacon frequencies, Sept 12
at 0637-0642 UT. These are my guesses based on previous reception with
no IDs axually hearable now, as in dxinfocentre.com or RNA, with
listed watt powers:
245, FS, Sioux Falls SD, 400;
251, AM, Amarillo TX, 100;

332, IC, Wichita KS, 400 or 25;
338, RYN, Tucson AZ, 400;
344, JL, Joplin MO, 25 or JA, Jacksonville FL, 400;
346, YXL, Sioux Lookout ON, 500;
404, HU, Hutchinson KS, 25;

[non]. Not unID with ID axually copiable:
255, SW, Stillwater OK, 25;
293, FBY, Fairbury NE, 25;
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12195, Sept 12 at 0623, S9+15/20, mystery open carrier,
much stronger than hardly anything within 25mb SWBC, just a few JBA
carriers, so I guess it be close by. What is it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD
OF RADIO 2260)

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS

``Been Missing. Hello everyone. It has been a long time since I have
been able to listen to short wave. I bought a SFR and boy, these
things are great. It's a SdrPlay DX. I was listening to a station out
of Florida and I heard the familiar Glenn Hauser World of Radio show.
In a instant it brought me back to listening to it in the 90's. Glenn,
I want to thank you for the great job you do. I've read all the
articles you put in Popular Communication [rather, Popular
Electronics, Monitoring Times]. If I get some money together I'll buy
you a pizza and a drink. You put your life into this and I just wanted
to say thank you for your efforts. I really enjoy your show and the
updates in print and radio. There's always something wrong with Radio
Cuba. Take care and happy listening`` (John Spicer, Sept 5)

John, Welcome back and thanks for your kind comments. 73, Glenn
