Glenn Hauser logs July 17, 2024

Thursday, July 18 2024

** CHINA. 16100, July 17 at 2211, Chinese at S5/S7; also JBA on 15920;
and at 2216, JBA carrier on 18965, weaker one on 18985. All of which
likely attributable to CNR1 jamming vs Sound of Hope. I`ve heard the
two 18s before but neither in EiBi nor Aoki, rather 18970. They do
agree on 16100 & 15920 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed July 17 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9+10/20 direct, preview report about some festival; 2201.5 news
starting with calls for media transparency to perfect democracy in
congress; 2205 something about Gibraltar, considered ``Spanish`` by
some, negotiations with UKQOGBANI. Then interview with Daniela about a
theatrical festival, July 4-28, but I can`t catch the name of it, like
Armando? Other three frequencies on and audible; none missing lately
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 11785.019, July 17 at 2200 NO signal direct from VOT
English; while 11800 ROMANIA is quite audible. Nor at further chex
2202, 2243 when not measurable. Didn`t even try UTwente. At 2202 also
nothing on possible/previous alternates 11795, 9875. How about
transposing to 11875? At 2213 there is a JBA signal there: EiBi shows
that would be AWR Vietnamese via Madagascar. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2251 monitoring: confirmed
Wednesday July 17 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.000+,
S9+5/10 into UTwente; and a few sex delayed on 3975.003, S9/+10.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 17 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -73 Hz =
7489.927, S6/S8 and noisy into Maryland SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

** U S A. 9330, July 17 at 0642, tuning across World`s Last Chance
Radio via WBCQ, another flat-earth lesson. Guy is explaining how there
can`t be any satellites orbiting, because, well, the earth is flat!
Most satellite dishes, he says, are not pointing straight up, after
all, and are really picking up terrestrial signals. With a straight
face?! Of course, many satellites in geosynchronous orbits are closer
to the horizon. And they could only be ``straight up`` from an
equatorial angle, duh. Is Allan Weiner, a ``man of science``, secretly
snickering at his benefactors stemming from an Egyptian cosmetics
tycoon? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1650.42 & 1649.58 approx., July 17 at 0654 UT, there it
is again, somestation with a tone of ~420 Hz astride other 1650
signals, mainly KCNZ Iowa.

Earlier reports, probably on mwoffsets list:

[May 21:] Hi from the South Pacific, Last evening (1000 UTC today) I
observed something I've not noticed before. The 1650 AM North American
stations were suffering QRM on both upper and lower sideband from
spurs on 1649.5795 and 1650.4165 kHz, causing a heterodyne whine on
the channel. See attached screenshot. Centre point for these is
1649.998, so perhaps KFOX or CINA have a transmitter or transmission
issue? Coincidentally I note CINA was first reported in NZ last month by
colleagues on a DXpedition, so perhaps I am 'hearing' evidence of them
for the first time?! Is their anyone who hears CINA regularly that can
check this possibility out for me? 73 Bryan Clark, Mangawhai,
Northland, New Zealand``

``Hello, Bryan. From Masset, I had a look at my overnight captures.
First noted on May 19th and continues now (1000 UT). Best heard when I
use my ALA 1530 aimed 310/130 deg. Not heard on unterminated N
Beverage. Also heard well on my 110 deg DKAZ. Measuring approximately
1649.579 and 1650.416. Last night not heard at 0458 TOH capture, but
clearly there at 0558. Wonder who might it be? 73 from above the
Arctic Circle off the Norwegian coast, Walt Salmaniw``

``May 22 #41381, Hi Bryan, Very interesting indeed, here is what I
seen early this morning with my antenna pointing to the west from
Austin, Texas with Jaguar pro, it appears the signal started at 0500z
and gone by 1200z per my screen view. When I checked on my antenna to
the south, there was very little showing, so, maybe KFOX?? Thoughts??
James Niven, Austin, Texas``

And Walt Salmaniw, BC, replies today July 17: ``Checked my overnight
captures, Glenn. The tones came on at 0500:18 and off at 1200:15. The
late 1200 encompasses all of Asia and the Pacific, Alaska, BC, western
US states, most of central and western Mexico, and the southern bit of
South America. The 0500 hour is too early to be from the Pacific and
Asia. Perhaps this narrows things down a bit for the search of the
culprit. 73, Walt``

I hear it so easily and steadily that I really doubt it be from
outside N America. Apparently no one has tried to DF it; I shall try,
if there be enough signal into the DX-398 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
