** BRAZIL. 5940.1, May 11 at 0708, S4/S5 music with flutter, presumed
RVM, during auroral conditions and WWCR 5935 weakened. Could not get
enough signal on normally best 9665v to compare (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** MEXICO [and non]. During auroral conditions, bandscanning on
caradio for anything unusual such as Spanish; reference IRCA 2023-24
Mexican Log:
590, May 11 at 0217, ``Lo Mejor`` slogan a few times, and Mexicads.
That`s XEFD in Rio Bravo, Tams, but listed as La Mejor. RB is right on
the border, between Matamoros and Reynosa. Dominating rather than
Omaha.
670, May 11 at 0219, sports in Spanish; NO XEs on 670, or 680, surely
CUBA; trace of WSCR under.
720, May 11 at 0219, no WGN to dominate, maybe weak Spanish. Nicaragua
heard in past, not just Mexico.
750, May 11 at 0220, NO signal from WSB! Blacked out, or off? Easterly
not northerly.
760, May 11 at 0221, political ads including Partido Del Trabajo, ad
for eStar TV. 0223 TC as 20:23, i.e. CST not MDT. And program `Crónica
7-60` at 8-9 pm M/W/F. Six stations active, led by 70/10 kW XEABC in
Edo. Mex., calling itself XERAG as in Radio Alegría. No WJR. XEABC
website https://radiocanon.com.mx/programas/ shows 20 programs, but
incomplete, this hour not accounted for and no hits on cronica search.
But got it! on their FB:
https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=487079406981607&set=a.200044909018393
``Crónica 760 con Miguel Reyes Razo, Al Aire Lunes, Miércoles y
Viernes 20:00 hrs``
Branding on web is Radio Cañón, never heard, and not Alegría..
780, May 11 at 0224, WBBM is JBA
830, May 11 at 0225, no signal from WCCO
840, May 11 at 0226, Meximx rather than WHAS. Three XEs listed, but
more likely KVJY Pharr TX in the RGV, SS:REL format
850, May 11 at 0226, no KOA
860, May 11 at 0227, romantic music in Spanish: probably XENL 5/1.5 kW
Monterrey, only one with a partially ROM format.
880, May 11 at 0227, something about basura - waste. Only XE- is -CHEP
in Chihuahua2. More likely just KJOZ Conroe TX
890, May 11 at 0227, no WLS
940, May 11 at 0405, ``XEQ-AM 940, 10 mil watts, La Q``, CST check.
Had been 50/50 kW but proclaiming 10 as if bragworthy. CDMX.
1030, May 11 at 0229, Mexican elexion ads, so not Corpus Christi; of 5
XEs, most likely XEQR, 44/1.2 kW, CDMX
1040, May 11 at 0229, no signal or trace from WHO; likewise next 3
minutes from: 1080 KRLD, 1110 KFAB, 1120 KMOX, 1160 KSL. By next check
0355, many of the US clears are beginning to show up again.
1060, May 11 at 0230, immediately R. Educación ID and list of
affiliates. Call now is XECPAE tho unheard, 100/20 kW, México CDMX;
not always // 6185, unchecked now.
1140, May 11 at 0231, Spanish music, with het. XEMR Monterrey
assumed.
1190, May 11 at 0232, ``Contacto 11-90``, Nuevo León, i.e. XECT
Monterrey, supposedly 100 watts at night! 10 kW day.
1200, May 11 at 0651, no WOAI. Was sometimes audible, sometimes not.
Would expect it to be enhanced rather than blocked by aurora.
1280, May 11 at 0233, ``La Grande``, also with medium het, probably
another station off-frequency. 0241, ``A-W, 101.3`` from Nuevo León.
XEAW, 10/1 kW, Monterrey. Recheck 0355 now English station dominant.
1290, May 11 at 0234, religious talk in Spanish. Neither of two XEs
with that format, rather very likely per NRC AM Log: KRGE, 5/5 kW,
Radio Vida, Weslaco TX in the RGV.
1330, May 11 at 0242, political ad in gringo-Spanish for elexion later
in May, presumably TX primary runoff May 28, but not caught name; and
into C&W music. Of the 5 TX, two are C&W: KSWA Graham, 500/51 watts;
and KCKM Monahans, 12/1 kW. Graham is S of Wichita Falls, WNW of Fort
Worth. Monahans in SW TX near NM SE corner.
1340, May 11 at 0243, KGHM Midwest/OKC dominates instead of buried by
graveyard QRM. Also many highband regional channels have only weak
signals, so many of them blacked out.
1460, May 11 at 0238, Spanish music. KZUE El Reno OK should be off,
daytimer. Several SS elsewhere in US, no good fits, as in TX, KBZO
Lubbock is sports. KTKC Springhill LA is SS:REL. Only XEs are in Chih,
Son.
1500, May 11 at 0238, no KSTP but Spanish. Likely XEDF CDMX 50/50? kW
1510, May 11 at 0239, Spanish, ``1,510 AM``: XEQI, 10 kW ``daytimer``,
Monterrey NL. Shux, not Ecuador.
1670, May 11 at 0240, Spanish music, low het caused by this off+plus:
XEFCR, Reynosa, Tams. 10/1? kW
We never could see aurora here in Enid OK, despite several tries,
somewhat hazy. SWPC Oval 10% probability reached into Kansas, later
retreated into Nebraska.

For 0000 UT May 12, only to north half of Canada (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 11 at 2205, NO signal direct from VOT during
prolonged geomag storm. 2219 however checked at UTwente when measured,
music at S8/S9+10, weaker than usual but plenty. 2226 `Turkey`s
Geomarked [sic] Products`, repeat about honey for only about 2
minutes, then nothing but music fill until 2253 s/off, claiming this
has been the 1330-1430 on 13635! That applied to B23 only. Something`s
always awry at Ankara. 2254 IS about thrice until chop at 2254.5*
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, May 11 at 1543 UT, my furthest regular daytime
ND beacon is still audible, FBY, Fairbury, Nebraska, groundwave
unaffected by geomag storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT
Saturday May 11 at 0130 on WRMI 5850: instead music, fill? tho we are
still on the System F sked at this time. Maybe one brief announcement
circa 0150 I could not catch in time.
Confirmed UT Saturday May 11 at 0400 on WTWW 5085, strong signal but
unusually fluttery due to aurora.
Not confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1455 the 1430 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160, NO signal into UTwente: off the air, or blackout? No
3975 either.
Confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1600 on WRN webcast for North America.
Not confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1737 the 1730 on SW Gold Radio, no
signals on 6160 or 3975 into UTwente. Definitely off since the other
lowpower Germans are well audible on 3955, 3985, 3995.

** U S A. Major geomag storm affecting WWCR: 4840, May 11 at 0702,
S9+20 but with flutter. Likewise 5890, 5935, 5980 leapfrog mixture
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. SW blackout May 11 at 1535-1540: No SWBC signals
on 9-22 MHz bands! Except JBA traces of WWCR on 15825, 13845, 12160,
not 9980.
Next survey May 11 circa 2200, 11 thru 17 MHz bands are mostly dead of
signals except for weakies: 15770 WRMI, 13845 WWCR, 11780 Brasil, and
strong 11930 GB Martí; 9 MHz has recovered better but nothing beyond
USA; VG 9980 WWCR, 9475 WTWW, 9350 WWCR. Fair on 9565 GB, 9265 WINB;
poor on 9455 & 9395 WRMI; 9330 WBCQ JJBBA carrier. WWV reported at
2100 May 11, also via Richard Lemke:
``Solar-terrestrial indices for 11 May follow.
Solar flux 214 and estimated planetary A-index 291.
The estimated planetary K-index at 2100 UTC on 11 May was 7.33.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been extreme.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G5 level occurred.
Solar radiation storms reaching the S2 level occurred.
Radio blackouts reaching the R3 level occurred.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be extreme.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G5 level are expected.
Solar radiation storms reaching the S2 level are expected.
Radio blackouts reaching the R3 level are expected.``

** U S A. 12160, Sat May 11 at 1700, as expected, WWCR-2 too poor to
listen to `Talking Machine Show`, but so is the stream, weak and
distorted, surely coincidental, not due to geomag storm (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
