** CANADA [and non]. 332 MCW kHz, April 17 at 0648 UT, dash and QT,
1000 watt nondirexional beacon at Thunder Bay, Ontario, mixing with
much closer but just as weak IC, wIChita KS, allegedly 400 watts per
dxinfocentre, but I`ll go with 25 watts as in RNA list.
346 MCW kHz, April 17 at 0649 UT, dash and YXL, 1000 watt NDB at Sioux
Lookout ON. These are JBA vs still high line noise level worst at LW
and MW, no longer SW. Glad to be hearing any Canadians as they sink
into general summer noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 11935.002, Apr 17 at 2330, into UTwente, a weak S6 signal of
pop music, not noise and not to be expected from Yemen or Sa`udi
Arabia, so presumed CNR5 in Mandarin, a.k.a. Cross Strait Radio, from
Beijing site aimed at Taiwan, sked 2300-0900, except earlier closing
at 0600 on Wed for weekly maintenance. Heavy ACI from much stronger
11930 Spanish, R. Martí, unless tuned in USB (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Apr 17 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG S9+30
direct; 2207 feature interview about the Feria de Abril en Sevilla,
which is apparently a big deal with millions of visitors, many from
abroad (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11785.009, Apr 17 at 2200, VOT English not off the air,
S9/+10 on meter direct but very inferior to Spain, and not easily
copied. Sign-on as if this be the 1230 on 17620 - no doubt a playback
of that original, but how can they ignore the several repeats later?
They used to concede that the final two at 2200 and 0300 were repeats,
but now apparently the news in all of them is olds, up to 14.5 hours
stale.
2251 into UTwente when measured, S9+45, `Sports Panorama` about to
end, mentioned Oklahoma? 2253 s/off for 17620 at 1230 only.
Something`s always awry at Ankara. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS with
German IDs. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Chopoff just
after 2259* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 365 MCW kHz, April 17 at 0650 UT, AA, 100 watt ND beacon as
in RNA list: `Kenie`, Fargo, MN. ``Notes: 60' 'T'; Listed in airnav as
in ND, but actually just over the border in MN.`` Not sure what ``60'
'T'`` mean. JBA, not new but only unusual one. See also CANADA (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
