FreeDV is a new voice mode of communication. KC9TZ in a three page article in September QST says (quote) Freedv can use less bandwidth than SSB . . . sound quiet just as FM signals sound quiet compared to AM signals (unquote). The brief article relates the pros and cons of this new mode and other technical details while concluding (quote) HF digital voice has just reached the starting line, and it will be fascinating to see how it evolves over the next several years (unquote).
