** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Sat Jan 28 at 1515, zero signals from
LRA36 into the few SDRs online, 2 in Argentina, 1 in Uruguay and 1 in
Brasil. Supposed to be another Saturday special at 1500 & 1900. Manuel
Méndez whatsapped them and got reply that they *are* on the air, but
still we are hearing nothing; propagation? I doubt it. Then I try the
webcast link via Nacional Argentina webpage but no connexion. Then MM
gets a reply with a different webcast link which worx for both of us:
https://sa.mp3.icecast.magma.edge-access.net/sc_rad35
I start at 1617, talk about Antarctica; 1625 cut to ``RAE Argentina to
the World`` multilingual ID reel including English, then about another
base, Petrel, but lost contact. 1627 rock song. 1631 ID; 1633 Nicole
on phone, apparently operating on ham band. 1635 off air recording of
first day on air 20/10/1979. 1638-1650 call from Romina, one of the 4
YLs of the ex-2022 crewe. 1652 acknowledges SW propagation NG today,
but got webcast. 1653 scripted piece about ``La Juventud``. 1655 outro
credits for ``Uniendo Voces``, into songs.
After 1900, still no SW signal into the nearest remotes. 1922 I`m on
the webcast again and hear repeats of same thing including the 1979
ID, at 1945, and then Romina, etc. After 2000 keeps playing silently
except for an autotimesignal at 2030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** AUSTRALIA [non]. `Calling All Radio Nutzz`, webcast via Unique
Radio, Sat Jan 28 after 1900 with GB and Jen, including Slavic
languages introduced by Dr Richard E Wood; and The Two Bobs flying
over Switzerland with ham contacts. Before and after 2000 playing
classic interval signals, some also with anthems. Then GB plays some
ham contacts with him as M1ELK. His true name seems to be a closely
guarded secret, but I found a post from M1ELK somewhere as Michael
Dawson, and on ham bands his handle is Mike rather than GB. I guess
that merely means he`s in Great Britain, part of UKOGBANI (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 346 MCW kHz, Jan 28 at 0716 UT, dash and YXL, 500 watt ND
beacon at Sioux Lookout, Ontario
382 MCW kHz, Jan 28 at 0712 UT, dash and YPL, 1000 watt NDB at Pickle
Lake, Ontario, just enough to overcome my local noise hump. I daresay
that beacons like these really put such remote spots on the map (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 28174 CW, Jan 28 at 2232, E E E E E E E E E E VVV DE
VE1VDM/B --- and very long pauses between repeats. This explains it on
the WI5V 10m beacon reference: ``28.174 VE1DVM C TRURO, NOVA SCOTIA,
CA, 1.2 min CW, then QSY to QRSS and WSPR-CW bands in sequence``
QRZ.com: VE1VDM Canada flag Canada
Vernon Matheson, 392 Onslow Road, UPPER ONSLOW, NS B6L 5K9, Canada
``Presently I have an AA7DJ 10m beacon on 28.174.0 at 10 watts into a
10 meter dipole at approximately 20' AGL. Grid square is FN85ij for
this beacon. 73 de Vernon``
Quick check of other 10m sigs finds that beacon in BC and phonehams in
western Washington, some kind of contest. F2 single-hop skip distances
at 28+ MHz are such that reception from far corners of the continent
are most likely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NIGERIA. 7255-, Jan 28 at 0658, S9/+10 of dead air, but off the air
by next check 0730; anyhow V of Nigeria is not totally dead yet. Last
times I heard it were Jan 5/7/9, all with little or no modulation, and
well after 0700. Maybe it were pointlessly on more dates before 0700?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000+, Jan 28 at 2344, nothing but Chinese into
UTwente, so VOT English to N America is again a failure, ceding to
EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs
and other Moslems (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 344 MCW kHz, Jan 28 at 0715 UT, JL, 25 watt ND beacon at
JopLin MO; tuned to 342 USB, just above 341 EI EnId; seldom heard
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2175 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday January 28 at 0140 the 0130 on WRMI 5850, S8 into Maryland
SDR.
Also confirmed UT Saturday January 28 at 0500 on WBCQ Radio Angela,
5130, S9/+15 into Virginia SDR, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR but better S/N
ratio. Offsets compared: Maryland -7/8 Hz; Virginia - 14/15 Hz. Both
cannot be right, so then I compare them on 5000.000 WWV: Maryland -0.2
to +0.3; Virginia, -6.6 to -7.1 Hz so the latter must not be believed.
Of course, WWV would not be varying 0.5 Hz: must be SDRs`
instability.
Also confirmed Saturday January 28 at 1700 on WRN N America webcast.
Also confirmed from 2033 UT Saturday January 28 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, VG
S9+20 into nearby remote by groundwave.
Also confirmed Saturday January 28 at 2230 on WRMI 15770, S9/+5
direct; and once again NOT on scheduled 5850: after ID 2229.5, music
plays, apparently fill rather than a specific program; and listed //
7730 is still imaginary. Next:

** U S A. Preparing for `AAAWWW` on WBCQ at 0100-0200 UT Saturday
January 28, from 0056 I check the SW frequencies via Maryland SDR:
6160 -63 Hz = 6159.937; 5130 with IS & ID, +3/5 Hz = 5130.004; 7490
-62 Hz = 7489.938; 3265+ off. This time I stay on 7490- instead of
switching to its webcast. 0100 `WTO` theme and Allan`s first words are
``magnificent bastards``, so this is a new live one. 0102 he has to
cough, but beautiful Angela is by his side so both in Deland of Fla
now. Explains that two weeks ago on a flight back from Maine he caught
something, not COVID which has been bothering him ever since, felt
like crap. Flight was from Presqu`île to Orlando/Sanford.
Pressurization also blew his left ear, deaf there for three days;
anyhow explains why no new show last week. Complains about inflation,
eggs up from less than a dollar a dozen to $ 10 - really? Blames
government in general, 535 members of congress dismissed with an
expletive.
``We did not have to have a war in Ukraine`` -- whew: tell that to
Putin. 0114 the early history of tape recording, invented by the
Nazis. 0123 as trimulcasting asking for reports. No specific
datestamp. 0132 should keep SW and not move everything to the cloud.
Discussing hamfests missed and to be attended. Call from Mr
Transistor. 0138 trimulcasting on 7, 6, 5 MHz. 0141 call from Niagara
Falls, Ontario, reception in a hotel. Explains meterbands MUFs. Refers
to 5G article by Wilner in Radio World. BCQ website may be hacked,
beware. Number of AM stations in US declining but not by as much as
you would think: lost 25 last year. 0158 invites Angela to pray but
she hands it back to him. Maybe only a semiminute late joining Hal
Turner. Again this week never heard a reference to ``our president
T****`` during AAAWWW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA 9/kHz split MW carrier search, Jan 28
from 0704, not in the order tuned: 558-2, 774-2, 855-2, 882, 1044,
1521. Also 846 TP Kiritimati. At first 855 had one unusually strong
signal, thought I might get some audio, but a few minutes later just
two weakers beating. 1521 continues to be mysterious, as nothing but a
5 kW in Spain should be possible this late; no Africans listed. Others
also likely Spain, with Canary alternatively on 882 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
