** CANADA. 2598 USB, Jan 11 at 0740 UT, roboYL voice in English with
marine weather for south coast, east coast of somewhere, presumably
Newfoundland. Good S9 signal; slightly weaker S8 on 2749 USB at 0742
Jan 11 same voice but presumably different forecasts for Nova Scotia
area. Once again these are first scheduled broadcasts of a new day for
early-rising mariners: 2598 from 0737 is VCP-4 Placentia with 3000
watts; 2749 from 0740 is VCO Sydney with 550 watts. Each shares time
with several other stations, per Metarea IV in
https://dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6165, Jan 11 at 0727, S9 of dead air, in English or Spanish?
only RHC still on, where something`s always wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** NIGERIA. 7255-, Jan 11 at 0726, V. of Nothing, no signal from Abuja
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORFOLK ISLAND. 5045, Radio DX: unfortunately not a log by me, as
it was on short notice while I slept on, but Nick Hacko reactivated
this SWBC radio country January 11 to make some tests, again like last
April employing the ID I recorded for him as well as some World of
Radio excerpts. Thanks to his notifying the WOR iog about this, there
was a flurry of reports by those awake from 0741 past 1045, hearing it
direct or via remotes. Perhaps he will be doing this again in the near
future. Not 5055 as some had expected; and be careful as there may be
a Queensland station also on 5045 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PERU. 4810, Jan 11 at 0729, JBA carrier vs heavy STANAG noise on
4810+. I`m always alert for anything here in my bandscans, since so
few broadcasters are left on 60m, nothing detected for months at
least in the nightmiddle. Suspected R. Logos, Chazuta, 1 kW, which as
of WRTH 2022 deadline was double-daggered as inactive. TBM shows not
reported since Sept 2022. No other BC stations now known anywhere,
anywhen on 4810 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 11 at 2305, token English from REE. Main feature
by Hélena Rigobert is about a new modernized produxion of Purcell`s
opera Dido & Aeneas opening Jan 17 in Madrid. Great music
interspersed; 2318-2321 break for report from Lebanon correspondent
about a church being completely vandalized by some Syrian. 2321-2330
fills with Act I of D&A, or part of it. VG S9+20/30 into Maryland SDR
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 11 at 2300, VOT English, timesignal and news,
S9+25/35 into UTwente but I`m mainly listening to simulSpain, q.v.
2330-2338 repeating `Weekly Commentary` about the CFA Franc; yesterday
was placed much earlier in the hour. 2343-2349 another repeat, about
the great kiwi fruit. See #4 below about title of this segment. This
time I`m listening closely: could be ``Healing Supreme`?? Definitely a
U between the S and P. 2352 s/off with sked, IS once to 2353*
uncovering the CCCCCCI which had been underneathing all along.
Alan Holder had replied to my logs: ``Hi Glenn, I hope you are in good
health. I'm fine here at the moment. I always read your daily logs
posted on the WOR io group site with much interest.
I note that you are having difficulty in understanding some of the
program names on VOT. Well, you are not alone, as I also have this
problem (as I'm sure many others do). Some of the announcers have such
thick accents, and this, coupled with signal fading, does not make for
easy comprehension.
Besides short wave, I have also listened carefully online and as far
as I can make them out, here are some of the English program names:
1. Gripping Files
2. Turkey's Geo-marketed products
3. The 'Firsts' of Anatolia
4. Healing Spring {which I had concluded was `Feeling Supreme` -gh}
The first title is a bit odd - probably translated from the Turkish
word
sürükleyici
Either of the synonyms: intriguing, or fascinating might be more
appropriate than gripping. Unfortunately they do not seem to have a
native English speaker on staff.
#4 Although nothing to do with the benefits of spring water, the
program features the 'magical' healing properties of certain foods and
other natural products. But I still think they could find a better
title.
You are right about the heavy accent of one of the lady announcers.
And coupled with the constant fall and rise in intonation, I find
listening to her delivery really annoying. Not wishing to be unkind, I
really wonder why she was hired in the first place.
Still no sign of the "Letterbox" program. The last edition was in
August 2020 if I remember rightly. I think some of the announcers are
working from home, as I can detect a "roomy echo" sometimes, instead
of studio quality sound.
All the best to you. Alan Holder, Isle of Wight`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2172 monitoring: ``From: Richard

Confirmed UT Wednesday January 11 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+20/30 into
Missouri SDR, better than S9/+10 vs HNL into Lincoln NE. As always,
preceding program `Midnight Cry` chopped off at 0029 before could
finish uttering their URL. And my very last word, ``disclaimer`` at
0059 stepped upon by music fill: ain`t inhuman automation wonderful?
Also confirmed Wednesday January 11 at 1041 the 1030 on WRMI 5850, VG
direct when I happen to awaken briefly.
Also confirmed Wednesday January 11 at 2202 tune-in the 2200 on WBCQ
7490 minus 64 Hz = 7489.936, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR. Later found
this from WBCQ sent at 2044:
``Hi Glenn, After 24 years on 7490, Financial Survival has left the
WBCQ airways. It was a great run with Melody and Jim Cedarstrom.
Melody is moving on with other ventures. We thank them for their loyal
patronage all these years. Replacing their time slot [Wed 2100-2200]
is American Classics with Pirate Joe. Fantastic, great old music, much
plated on original 78 rpm records. Together with Radio Angela
programming, WBCQ strives to bring the best variety of programming to
the shortwave radio world. Thanks, Allan & Angela Weiner, WBCQ Radio``
--- Shux, I missed hearing their neat closing theme tune for the last
time just before WOR, nothing else. F.S. had also been simulcast on
WWCR, gone there too?
Next and last WOR 2172 repeats:
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
