** CUBA. 6000, Dec 25 at 0205, RHC English, S9+45 but with huge
humbuzz; // 6165 is S9/+20 with less mod and less hum. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6060, Dec 25 at 0811, RHC in Sunday Esperanto! S7/S9. First
time confirmed, at least by me, first airing this season; could be on
6100. You never know which 6 MHz channel will be on this late, if any.
Also Esp`o after 1600 on usual 11760 & 15140. Despite announcements,
third airing may be at 2130 on 13680 or somewhere. Just before or
after 1600, other RHCs were dead airing and/or turning off: 9710,
9535, 15230, 13700. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** FRANCE. 15185, Dec 25 at 1605, S7/9+10 but JBM. EiBi shows at
1600-1630, clandestine Oromiya Public Media in TIG via Issoudun.
Standard remark about sites not bothering with modulation. Something`s
incredulous at Issoudun (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** INDONESIA. 7289.960, Dec 25 at 0802, JBA carrier, likely my first
capture finally of RRI Nabire, on north coast of New Guinea, which Ron
Howard hears just about every night but on 7289.94 as of Dec 23 with
both Islamic and Xmas stuff, in any case violating Separation of
Mosque/Church and State. Timespan varies widely from somewhat before
0800 until blocked at 0931, but often off much earlier. Now it`s
slightly stronger than the Vanuatu 7260 JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** IRAN [non]. 5829.9 approx., Dec 25 at 0203, JBA carrier, no doubt
the only station on ``5830`` anywhen per Aoki, Iran International TV
audio, clandestine via Tashkent, UZBEKISTAN, in the absence of any
WTWW-1, all the way from 1330 to 0530, and always off-frequency-minus
not shown by Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NETHERLANDS [non]. 5960, Dec 25 at 0015, The Mighty KBC via Nauen,
GERMANY, for the last time. I just tried it at UTwente and heavy mix
with E Turkistan CCCCCCI. Also caught the very last minute at 0159
direct, S9+20 and no QRM now. Last thing they did was appeal for more
sponsors. From Jan 1 to be on WRMI 5950, Sundays at 22-24, time
collision with 7490 WBCQ shows Marion`s Attic and Uncle Bill`s Melting
Post. UB says he does not mind the competition, not going to move and
likes being adjacent to Harry Shearer`s `Le Show` on 7490v from 0000
UT Mondays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NIGERIA. 7254.934, Dec 25 at 0806, JBA carrier, no doubt VON, first
time detected in more than a week on signature off-frequency;
nominally from *0555 used to be bigsig here. Should be in English
08-10. So Nigeria is not yet a defunct SWBC country, but trying hard
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6925 USB, Dec 25 at 0157, S7/S9 of Santa Clausish
``ho3, Merry Christmas`` in a loop mixed with a wide variety of SFX,
baaas, bleats, other animal and bird noises, farts? or fake farts,
over & over & over. 0202 also some uteblaapps add to cacophony. Even
worse at 0208 but off at 0230 check. The only pirate activity heard on
Xmas eve -- unID by me, but reported by no one on HFU! (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** PERU [and non]. 4775, Dec 25 at 0145, JBA carrier vs CODAR
swirshes, presumed R. Tarma. Once upon a year, Xmas eve was a fertile
time for Latin American DX as stations would stay on late or even
temporarily reactivate idle SW transmitters which still worked. Not
any more: the only LA signals, little more than carriers on 60m are
this and usual: 4885 Brasils, 4940 Colombizuela, 4985 Brasil. Plus
Cuba of course on 5025 but not on 4765 or 5040 which ought to be on
now. None at all on 3 or 2 MHz bands. Maybe, better luck, NY Eve?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 7265, Dec 25 at 0210, S7/S9 of dead air, broadcast or ham?
VOT in Spanish scheduled. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 420 MCW kHz, Dec 25 at 0750 UT, PK, 25-watt ND beacon at
Olathe/Herbb KS, on the edge of the persistent local noise span
roughly 370-420 peaking circa 395 obscuring any other beacon DX in
that range. Olathe is a SW suburb of KC (Glenn Hauser, oK, WOR)
** U S A. 486 AM kHz, Dec 25 at 0231, no signal direct into any of my
antennas and receivers from WI2XLQ, commemorative experimental station
in Forest VA. But via Maryland SDR, audible S7 with lots of storm
crashes, none closer than Bermuda or central Mexico. Frequency offset
fluxuates minus 75/78 Hz, = 485.925/922. ``O Holy Night``, from 0626
W & M brief announcements I miss and more violin music. 0643 more
announcements, WI2XLQ ID, in honor of Fessenden 1906. Explained here:
http://www.arrl.org/arrlletter?issue=2022-12-22
``On Christmas Eve, 1906, Canadian inventor, experimenter, and
entrepreneur Reginald Fessenden claimed to have made his first voice
-- and music -- broadcast from Brant Rock, Massachusetts, although his
account of the event over the years has been disputed. Nonetheless,
Brian Justin, WA1ZMS, of Forest, Virginia, will make his annual
program recreation on 486 kHz to commemorate Fessenden's
accomplishments.
Justin will broadcast for 24 hours beginning at 1800 UTC on December
24, with a repeat transmission on New Year's Eve, beginning at 1800
UTC, as Fessenden was reported to have done on both nights in 1906.
Justin will transmit on 486 kHz, under authority of his FCC Part 5
Experimental License WI2XLQ, using equipment substantially more modern
than Fessenden's gear. Justin will use a home-brew setup to achieve
Heising modulation similar to what was used in amplitude modulation
(AM) transmissions during World War I. Justin explained that
Fessenden's transmitter was a high-speed alternator, a predecessor to
the Alexanderson Alternator still in use today at the historic
Grimeton Radio Station in Sweden. Modulation then was achieved using a
carbon microphone, but Justin will use a laptop computer for his audio
broadcast. Justin said there is a cult-like following of amateur radio
and shortwave listeners who tune in for the annual broadcast. Justin
has been licensed since 1976 and is an ARRL Life Member.``
486, Dec 25 at 0749 UT, my 100-ft W/E longwire gets a JJBBA carrier on
486, so probably that. Unsaid how much power is running. Also heard
last year only via remotes (Glenn Hauser, not cult-like, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 7283 USB, Dec 25 at 0211, contrary hams in USB instead of
customary LSB on 40m, K9WT ith huge S9+25 signal, tech discussion with
JBA contact K9FP as they finally ID by 0215. QRZ.com:
K9WT flag USA, JOHN A VENDELY, 2825 Hard Way Lane, Malabar, FL

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2170 monitoring: Bill Tilford
explains about WBCQ 5130 missing at 0500 UT Sat: ``All three "classic"
WBCQ freqs (5130, 6160, 7490) tripped off some time after 0400. FTIOM
was cut short on 5130. Bad storm action, but everything back up
tonight``
Unlike last week when off the air, confirmed UT Sunday December 25 at
0030 on WRMI 7780, as always starting with ~10 seconds of self-imposed
noise burst atop my opening, quick pause and one more second of it. A
minute earlier I found 7780 to be JBA into Missouri SDR, so now I`m on
Maurice, Louisiana, where it`s S7/S8 but strangely lo-fi audio: narrow
bandwidth, sounds exactly the same at AM and AMNarrow settings;
somewhat better at SAS = synch with fake stereo.
Also confirmed UT Sunday December 25 ending at 0417 on WA0RCR, 1860
AM, Wentzville MO, so started way early circa 0348! Various preceding
ham shows must have run short or absent for holiday. Nominal WOR time
as Vern always announces, is from 0415. Next:
2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** U S A. 7780, Dec 25 at 0800, WRMI presumably starting V of
Indonesia relay on VP signal, but I hear the same 10+second noise
burst at first that infests WOR transmissions on 7780 WRMI-13.
However, different Systems are scheduled, C at 0800, D at 0030. BTW,
7730 seems off again, no trace despite 24h schedule // 15770 toward
Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9395, Dec 25 at 1557, now this WRMI frequency is absent;
still TOMBS on 9455; 9955 also off despite supposed Sunday extension.
Something`s odd at Okee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9330-, Dec 25 at 1558, WBCQ-6 is still/again off; too windy
yet, or what? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 770 kHz, Dec 25 at 0217 UT, I hit here on a routine
bandscan, without really trying, KATL again, ad for M&A`s Convenience
Store in Miles City. At first I thought it was Emily`s. There is an
M&A chain, but further research leads to M&H in Miles City! Good they
have lots of local ads. Montanan must still be stuck on 10 kW ND day
facility, accidentally or deliberately? dominating 770: 50 kW KKOB NM
nulls thisaway toward WABC and 50 kW ND WABC too far, beyond 2
megameters. Note to eds.: ``thisaway`` is American slang, not two
separate words (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 970, Dec 25 at 0222 UT, plug for unitedchurch.ca - so a
Canadian? NO, not a single one on 970. Seems to be
indigenous-orientated, but I wonder outgrowth of which sect? Or
deliberately nondenominational, Of a few USA RELs on 970, could merely
be our closest, KCFO Tulsa. But detailed websked shows the nauseating
Sebastian Gorka now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
