Glenn Hauser logs October 3-4, 2021

Monday, October 04 2021

** CANADA. 2749-USB, Oct 4 at 0108, YL with marine weather in French,
forecasts for lundi, mercredi, jeudi, etc. DXinfocentre.com says at
this hour it would be VCO Sydney NS starting at 0040, 550 watts
bilingual. Next would be Yarmouth from 0140 and Halifax 0240.

First logs of these for the season vs the summer/storm noise level.

2598-USB, Oct 4 at 0109, YL with marine weather in English, always
weaker than 2749s, S3 to S2.5 close to the noise level. Starting at
0107 is VCM, 600 watts from St. Anthony which is on The Rock, but
listed with (LABRADOR); not sure what that means, transmitter one
place, source and or info about the other? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CARIBBEAN NETHERLANDS. 800, Oct 4 at 0155, Spanish in the mix on
E/W loop despite KQCV OKC and CKLW Windsor. TWR a.k.a. BONAIRE is SS
at 0000-0500 for Cuba and Caribbean, so a favorable azimuth for us. MW
News Oct has an article explaining why despite a 440 kW transmitter,
PJB is no longer easily into Europe, but best chance when for Carib in
general (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 590, Oct 4 at 0053, classical music, got to be CMBF, Radio
Musical Nacional, 25 kW from La Julia, Mayabeque near Habana. Only one
other CM on 590, a Rebelde in far Guantánamo. Best by far on my E/W
loop, buried on the N/S shortwire. Why can`t I hear a single US
station classical on AM? ¡Viva la revolución! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 4747 approx., Oct 4 at 0124, scratchy S7 spur out of 4765
Radio Progreso, which is S9+35 and distorted, QRMing CODAR; the
cadence of the spur matches the music on 4765. Matched by another
about 4783; full range each covers: approx. 4744-4748 & 4778-4785.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165, Oct 4 at 0134, RHC in wrong language, Spanish not
English and // 5040; while 6000 is not // in music presumably correct
English service.

11670 & 11760, UT Mon Oct 4 at 0142, RHC `En Contacto` DX program in
progress, about a transponder change at the ISS, but these two
frequencies are suptorted, S3-S6. 11850 is not only suptorted but just
barely modulated as she is apparently citing the times for this show
but like last week I am not paying close attention beyond hearing
``0235`` which would be wrong instead of 0135. Elsewhere: 9710 with
heavy CCI from China; 9535 weaker but clearer.

13740, Oct 4 at 0144 another Spanish frequency check, sometimes on,
sometimes not, but now it`s in ENGLISH! Apparently crossed up with
6165 in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6924-USB, Oct 4 at 0106, hard rock at S9. 0137 still
going but off by 0149 check. A few logs here say Two Dog Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,87249.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6876-USB, Oct 4 at 0107, guitar music S9; 0122 DJ
with Brit accent says ``Best Smooth Jazz``. 0137 still going. 0150
still VG with jazz piano; 0153 Brit chat spells out LUCAS, ``Smooth
Jazz`` as if name of ``station`` if not programme. 0201 Smooth Jazz
dedication to some YL for birthday? We hear a few words from her.
Accents are so heavy, hard for me to understand despite VG reception,
S9+10. Mentions bestsmoothjazz.com and rescued cats.

That website exists in London, England, with TV show of Oct 2, this
one? And promo next one of Oct 14.

These say 6876 is really Mix Radio International, starting at 2133 Oct
2 on 6866, and move to 6876 at 2226:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,87233.0.html
Hardly anybody cites ``Best Smooth Jazz``, but MRI says after a
comment:

``Quote from: dave524 on Today at 01:53 --- For the wide signal I've
found the Digital mode in SDRUno with the 12K width gives the best
sound, great sounding show as usual``

``That`s great because our transmitter is optimized for wideband SDR
for best sound. At the same time we will sound good on any radio that
is on frequency with our GPS. Thank you for your posts and especially
tuning into MRI tonight. Logged Mix`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930-USB, Oct 4 at 0149, weak music S3-S4 with
fadeouts. Much weaker than the others. Was not hearing this while 6924
was on. These say it`s Radio 48:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,87248.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1020, UT Mon Oct 4 at 0056, ``Born Too Late`` pop music
on near-local signal: got to be KOKP Perry, one of `Triple Play Sports
Radio` breaking main format. Past 0101, ``gotta get out of here, The
Old Stillwater Jukebox``, back next Sunday, ``Good night, Oklahoma,
Tom Dirato``, 0103 to dead air, JBA talk, CCI? No, gradual fadeup of
Patriot Radio Network, I suppose sports rather than political. So what
time does the Jukebox start??? He doesn`t say and the website does not
either, but has a rotating display on homepage:
http://tripleplaysportsradio.com/
I confirmed this // 105.1 KOSB Perry, local quality but not audible on
1580 KOKB Blackwell which is VG daytime, but now should be 49 watts. I
never hear either of these FMs on website: ``now 5-deep with 93.1
Stillwater, 93.3 Ponca City``. Presumably translators, but why do they
need one in S-W? Maybe separately programmed when games pile up,
triple-play not enough. KOKP 24h is plenty to ruin reception of
Roswell, Pittsburgh or anything else on 1020 (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** U S A. 3390.5-USB, Oct 4 at 0113 UT, NF01FB, fonetikaly more than
once, ``regional net has closed``; MARS? Have not heard a call of such
a format before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3819-USB, Oct 4 at 0115, the non-LSB hams again in technical
discussions, and this time I copy some calls: K5MXJ interjecting,
AA5KG, two of them talking over each other for a minute. QRZ.com
shows: K5MXJ, Kenneth M Jones, Jr, Houston, TX 77075;
AA5KG, ALAN C PETERSON, Pueblo West, CO 81007 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4095.65, Oct 4 at 0120, whoops and CW ID as DW, JBA vs S5
noise level, so Desert Whooper, no sign of any voice now. DW replied
to my last report:

``Hello Glenn! Thanks for you great HF listings! That is a very
interesting intercept! Definitely not any voice transmissions coming
from DW. What was your receive location and receiver bandwidth? There
is an ITU channel 401 on 4095 KHz for ships to transmit on. Maybe you
were hearing a ship plus DW whoops in your receiver??``

To which I replied:

``Enid OK. Not sure of the bandwidth, on the R75 but normal USB tuning
in 1-kHz steps landing right on 4095 where the SSB sounded normal.
Maybe ship, but seemed coordinated with the whoops and voicing the
kind of info which would otherwise be sent in CW. Wish I could have
heard it longer and better. Also, I did not detect any CW during this
log. While the voice was on 4095.00, I can`t be sure of the whooper
frequency, hard to pin down by its nature without a carrier but also
heard tuned to 4095.00`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6993, Oct 4 at 0104, at least two JBA carriers beating, I
have been noticing lately; logged several times before, but I should
do so at least once a year, cf. this from *2017* ---

``6993, Sept 10 at 0002, JBA carrier as almost always audible from
presumed WH2XWF, experimental 164-watt transmitters with several
locations in Florida, to study ionospheric disturbances, never IDing,
nothing but dead air. We`ll see if this gets blown or flooded off.

6993, Sept 12 at 0133, no JBA carrier from presumed WH2XWF, the
Florida ionospheric study transmitters, so maybe Irma-caused. But Sept
13 at 0200 the JBA carrier is reaudible. No pirates (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WORLD OF RADIO 1895, DX LISTENING DIGEST)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2106 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 3 from 2000.5 on IRRS SW via AM Italia 918 kHz, S9-S8 after
music, 2000 IRRS ID with Milano PO box, via Noale SDR.

Also confirmed Sun Oct 3 at 2230 on WRMIs, 5950, S9+28, and 9955 two
words behind, S9+32, both via Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 4 at 0030 on WRMIs: 7730 VG direct;
9395, S9+22 and 9455, S8, both via Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 4 from 0301.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160 minus 27 Hz = 6159.973 into Knoxville SDR; JL ran slightly over
interrupted by a quick legal ID at 0300. S7 and must use narrow LSB to
minimise splash from 6165 RHC, still in Spanish, q.v. Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 9455 to WNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** U S A. 5050, UT Mon Oct 4 at 0128, WWRB is S9+45, gospel huxter
mixing with amateurish horn music, all distorted, then some horn only;
0130 YL introduces another program with guitar music, better
modulation. This is active only on UT Sun & Mon, for a few hours local
Sat and Sun evenings (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
