Glenn Hauser logs September 11-12, 2021

Sunday, September 12 2021

** CHINA. CNR1 jammers Sept 12 at 1359: JBA carriers on 12880, 12820
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21690, Sept 12 at 1524, JBA carrier into Kuwait SDR,
presumed RFI Swahili, and still nothing on S-21 registered 25775
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, Sept 12 at 0635 UT & still 1516 chex,
25-watt NDB PN at Ponca City is OFF! It had returned June 26 after a
10- or 11-month absence. Certainly the best NDB signal here, even
better than ``local`` 341 EI when it was on; and PN had been noted
daily/nightly ever since but not logged. So taking another 11-month
break? NO, it`s back on at next check 1829; never mind. BTW, 255 kHz
SW Stillwater is still gone.

The new https://rxx.classaxe.com/en/rna/signals
shows only a dozen currently or recently active in OK. The ones I
still need: 201 BV Bartlesville, 388 OK Okmulgee, 393 BZ Clinton, 400
AI Ardmore. Marked out are *42* more, gone (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** PUERTO RICO. 391-MCW kHz, Sept 12 circa 0630, among almost nightly
chex, I`m alert for beacon DDP at Dorado, as frequently but not always
audible in winter, my only LA NDB, but no sign of it yet. Could it be
off? No, still reported at classaxe.com as of 9/11, with speculation
that power be 3 kW instead of only 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 402-MCW kHz, Sept 12 at 1356 ND beacon HU, 25 watts from
Hutchinson KS. Seldom heard.

414-MCW kHz, Sept 12 at 0647 UT, seems two JBA NDBs mixing; including
an S - probably SU, 40 watts from Sioux City IA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2103 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
September 11 at 1804 tune-in to the 1800.6 on IRRS SW 7290 via

nearby KB0FX SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sun Sept 12 at new time 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG
direct.

Also confirmed UT Sun Sept 12 from 0338 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville
MO via nearby Warrenton SDR, S9 with a few storm crashes tho per
Blitzortung none closer than NW Nebraska. Next:

** U S A. 5920-5950, Sept 12 at 0621, splatter range out of Dead Gene
Scott on WWCR 5935 at extremely strong level S9+40/50 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Sept 12 at 0626, S9+10 of dead air from WTWW. They
often continue rocking past 0600, but you never know for how long
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 90.1, Sept 12 at 0600 UT, no sign of KUCO OK, rather KHCC
Hutchinson KS. Is KUCO off or with some tropo help has KHCC totally
captured the frequency? At 0600-0601 KHCC has double audio, ending
`Nightcrossings` with IDs also for its two relay stations, and also
BBC top-of-hour ID and promos, 0601-0606 BBC news alone, and stays
with BBCWS programming after 0606. I had previously noted Radio Kansas
signing off at local midnight, believe it or not, thus no more QRM to
KUCO. But that was several months ago. Bigger changes at KHCC:

``Summer Program Schedule Effective July 4th
http://www.radiokansas.net/schedule.cfm

NOTE: We're losing Morning Edition and All Things Considered July 5th
due to new network fee calculation. Our schedule will feature
Marketplace at 5 p.m. and The World both morning and evening!

New Math and the Loss of Drivetime NPR
Thanks for your concern about the loss of Morning Edition (ME) and All
Things Considered (ATC). We miss them too!

Short story:
Our cost for ME & ATC was headed up unsustainably. We’ve transitioned
to new programming now rather than risk taking pledges for shows that
we know we can't keep.

Full story:
http://www.radiokansas.net/nprmath.cfm

You recognize that NPR charges local stations for most shows.
Top-notch programming just can’t happen with national underwriter
support alone, and so NPR tries to calculate the value these shows
bring to each station and its capacity to pay. They recently changed
the math. Any change was bound to increase fees for some stations and
decrease fees for others. They wouldn’t want us to share the details
of their fee calculation, but after a phase-in period, our fee would
go up by $ 70,393 to keep ME & ATC. (See the screen capture to the
right). No new programming to entice this additional support from
listeners...``

ME & ATC remain available to Wichita-area Kansans on KMUW 89.1, but
KHCC will not mention its arch-rival (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search Sept 12 at 0628:
621, 711, 882, 1179, 1296; correlating with Canary Islands - Morocco -
- maybe Spain. No 846 so Kiritimati off? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
