** AFGHANISTAN [non]. 7600, Aug 18 at 1526, new clandestine
Afghanistan International TV puts VG signal into Kuwait SDR, S9+15/25
in SAM mode. Very slight hum. Bit of vamp music, seagull sounds, not
sure if language be Dari = Farsi or Pashto. Should be both as time
goes on. IDs in passing with English? name ``Afghan International``
and spelling out AFINTLTV. 1528 brief English clips from W and Obama
about previous end of Taliban regime. 1530 at ToH in Afgh, theme and
continuous talk, including female voice about Topic A, some crowd
noise clips such as at 1603. Just what you would expect from a TV
soundtrack. Still going with more of same past 1700. At 1725 a woman
starts singing briefly. 1729 more clips of GW Bush about the Taliban
takeover. 1730 maybe language switch? Still VG past 1737+.
This was first reported on 7600, August 16 and misidentified as a BBC
frequency change. Arthur Pozner explained at 1705 UT Aug 17: ``The
7600 kHz transmission is NOT BBC. Supposedly originating from R.
Afghanistan Intl and based in the UK. Transmission site may be the
same as R. Iran Int'l, near Tashkent. The parent company of both
programs is Volant Media UK Ltd.``
Ron Howard then found this info about it but failing to mention SW: we
wonder if it can have more viewers by satellite TV now in Afgh?

Volant Media UK Launches Afghanistan International TV
On Sunday, the day the Taliban captured Afghanistan’s capital Kabul,
Volant Media UK Ltd., the parent company of Iran International TV,
launched Afghanistan International TV (AITV). AITV aspires to serve as
a 24/7 international news network to provide reliable information for
audiences and protect media freedom in the country.
With Afghanistan undergoing a chaotic transition after the US military
withdrawal, AITV aspires to be a voice for the voiceless — to tell the
story of the people of Afghanistan, as Harun Najafizada, AITV’s
director tells Iran International TV. He revealed concerning reports
of the Taliban’s tense relations with the media community and how
independent journalistic activities have been severely disrupted.

The situation in Afghanistan is so dire that AITV decided to launch
the network prior to the planned start date — which was slated for the
United Nations’ International Peace Day on September 21. The hope is
that this will fill a media vacuum that has developed with so many
people fleeing the country and will provide a critical source of
reporting and information amid rapidly shifting events on the ground.
AITV, which has started with daily nine hours of live television news
and programs, plans to expand to a full 24/7 schedule as soon as
possible. But AITV also has a radio stream which is already offering
24-hour news and programs.
In terms of programming, Najafizada said AITV plans to rely heavily on
reporting from across Afghanistan and to produce informative programs
— talk shows, documentaries, and debates — to engage with people
inside and outside Afghanistan. AITV will be an independent and
impartial channel which will report facts, in keeping with standard
journalistic norms.
As to how AITV will fare with the Taliban in control of Afghanistan,
Najafizadeh says it is not about AITV, but it is about the Taliban and
how they receive the international media. AITV is prepared for any
scenario.``
This mentions a ``radio stream`` but WTFK? No 7600 cited. Its span as
yet unknown, nor whether there be any other frequency. As of Aug 18
there is still nothing in HFCC A-21 on 7600. Since Tashkent is only
756 km = 469 miles from Kabul, 7600 might work 24 hours (Glenn Hauser,

** U S A. 6160- & 4790-, Aug 18 at 0610, both WBCQs are OFF, instead
of BSing all night. Perhaps there be a storm around Monticello. 7490-
is also off but that`s normal at this hour. 9330- is NOT off,
continues with WLCR. It`s unclear whether the current 9330
transmissions with a lower-powered backup transmitter are coming thru
the Ampegon high-gain antenna, or one of the regular antennas. The
strength sometimes implies a lot of antenna gain is in play; and
remaining on air while the others are off also implies the separate
transmitter site for it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9455, Aug 18 at 0612, WRMI-5 is still off the air; while
9395 & 9955 are unusually VG at this hour. Nothing found at WRMI
disgraced FB about what`s going on with 9455 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
