New Log From Laramie, WY: WMBH 1560 Joplin, MO

Thursday, April 23 2020

The call sign was originally issued in Chicago in 1926 and moved to
Joplin in 1927, so it's grandfathered. It's an odd broadcasting artifact.

The original call sign for this station was KQYX, but it was changed
to WMBH in 2001. Doesn't anyone at the FCC ever look at a map?  Why
would a station in Joplin qualify for a W call???

WMBH-AM 1560 Joplin, MO 500 Watt non directional daytimer at 720pm
central. Been chasing a sports station under KNZR and KGOW for a week
or two but could never nail it down as there were two possibilities
and I couldnt rule either one out based on location. Finally heard a
mention of Joplin in a radio commercial tonight.
