** CANADA [and non]. 346-MCW kHz, March 27 at 0619 UT, dash and YXL,
500 watt ND beacon from Sioux Lookout, Ontario, not unusual but now
about the only Canadian making it vs the high storm noise level. Also
audible, 332-MCW kHz, IC, 400 watts from wIChita KS, tuned to 330-USB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** COLOMBIA. 2940.036 kHz, March 27 at 0608 UT, JBA carrier. The 2-3
MHz band is a vast wasteland with hardly any signals except WWV and
the intermittent Canadian CG weather stations on 2598 & 2749. It would
be a great place to alleviate the packed MWBC range 530-1710 kHz! It`s
remarkable how seldom one hears any US harmonix from there.
But I keep bandscanning almost every night, and still detect an AM
carrier always offset plus from 2940 --- previously identified, and no
doubt still, the second harmonic of 5 kW 1470, Radio Huellas, Cali; or
rather the fundamental must be 1470.018. The harmonic is a bit
stronger than usual tonight but no match for the heavy storm noise
level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13575, 13637, 13764, 13828, 13892 approx., March 27 at 1406,
FM/AM spurblobs with F# tones out of RHC 13700, this time multiples of
about 63-64 kHz. First noted on 13637 at S9+10. Other fundamental,
unrelated 13780, is still on at S9+30 but undermodulated. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, March 27 at 0547, JBA carrier, almost gone
by 0605. Presumed RNGE Bata reactivated after more than three months,
last heard by Manuel Méhdez, Spain on December 21. Tnx to tip from Ron
Howard via the WOR iogroup:
``Hi Manuel, March 26 - Checking 5005, from 0548+; heard a definite
signal; assume RNGE/R. Bata on the air again; sounded to be in Spanish
and some music; very poor reception. Wish I had caught this earlier,
when they might have had better reception. Perhaps you can check on
this and give us a definite confirmation? Thank you for all the
reports you have provided in the past regarding this station! Most
helpful. Ron California``, WORLD OF RADIO 2027
Its old schedule was roughly *0515/1700*. Manuel replies:
``GUINEA ECUATORIAL, 5005, Radio Nacional, Bata, 0530-0555, 27-03.
Thank you very much to Ron Howard for the yesterday news about the
reactivation of this station. Today here in Lugo only carrier
detected. Unfortunately I can't check it from Friol where conditions
are better than in Lugo. Via SDR remote receivers in Pardinho, Brazil
and in Central Europe, only carrier detected as in Lugo. We will
continue checking next days. Best 73,s`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PUERTO RICO [non]. 18160-USB, March 27 at 2120, one signal is
propagating on this band, Spanish with deep fades, IDs as KP4AKB
without fonetix and eventually with, so certain. At 2124 he`s working
unheard WB7JB in Washington state; gives name as Edwin, in Columbus
OH. Huh? Prop from PR would be unexpected, way above F2 MUF, and too
far for sporadic E unless double-hop, also a rarity. Explained at
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/kp4akb ---
``KP4AKB USA flag EDWIN RIOS, COLUMBUS, OH 43220-4120 USA
My call is KP4AKB/W8 --- I was first licensed as a novice and my call
was WP4AKB in Ponce, Puerto Rico. That license expired after 1 year.
After obtaining my General Class in 1957 my call changed from "W" to
"K". In 1962 I came to Dayton, Ohio to study. Since then I have
operated as Portable W8. The FCC no longer requires US stations sign
as "portable". That is why my call appears as "KP4". Nowadays the
number and prefix may not relate to where the station is located. I
hope this clears up any confusion as to where I am located. Ed Rios
Columbus, OH USA
[caption] Antenna at KP4AKB. US Tower 55 ft with a 17 ft mast. Top
antenna is a 40m EAntenna 3 ele with a modified 4 ele SteppIR on a 24
ft boom just below. Transceiver is a Icom 7800 driving a Tokyo
Hi-Power 2.5Kfx``
And CLUBLOG displayed on his page axually shows the station I heard
him working, WB7JB. So this must be a short single-hop sporadic E
opening from OH to OK, correlating with the WJHR log a few minutes
earlier; tho I did not get around to checking the DX MAP Es MUF (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 11720, Friday March 27 at 2100 after YDD runup, VOA News,
the anchor ``reporting by remote``, with AP and Reuters voicers; 2102
already optional cutaway for all those affiliates believing that two
minutes of news is plenty! 3 minutes more for the rest of us until
2105 `Music Time in Africa` starts. Heather is as Hyper as ever, but
admits she is producing from ``portable home studio``, causing format
changes, but one could not tell the difference. She mentions Corona
Virus and later reports on how it has messed up music tours, such as
someone who had to try three different air carriers to get back from
Europe to Bamako, buying a ticket on one after another (no refunds?).
So at least we know this is new, not another repeat from November.
I make a point of listening to most of it, since it`s our last chance
until B-20 --- maybe --- as for A-20 this Grimesland reverse
supersignal is abandoned, back to Botswana on 15580 during this hour.
And this airing is still unknown to Heather herself, or some other
announcer promoting MTIA times, even webcasts! (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. (5130), UT Sat March 28 at 0000-0100, I partially listen to
WBCQ webcast during AAAWWW --- it`s little but a monolog by Allan
talking about CV and trying to sound optimistic, no news about WBCQ
technical or programmation. 0100 into ``Tie me kangaroo down, sport``,
which is quite an improvement over Hal Turner had I been on the 7490
stream. 0104 into some Latin music, Pérez Prado? but what program is
this? 0107: `Zombo`s Record Party`, into an interview. But sked shows
`Matt Boland Presents` ?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15555-USB, March 27 at 2104, good signal from WJHR gospel
huxter, peaking S7; HF sporadic E enhancement? No such improvement
from extremely more powerful neighbor 15610 WEWN, JBA S3-S5. Have not
logged WJHR since January 9! Has it been off and/or just not
propagating with its peanut-power? This is the perfect excuse for me
to quote, just in from Terry Krueger, now living near to WJHR:
``All times/dates GMT, Niceville, FL (except mobile logs)
IC-R75, NRD-535, ICF-7600GR, active loop, random wire
15555 usb. FLORIDA. WJHR, Milton. 1515 3/13/20. Ventured to Milton,
specifically to 5920 Oak Manor Drive this day. A drive into a very
rural, "private property" series of narrow roads with
heavily-forested, large property homes. Got to the driveway of the
large house where WJHR is. The antenna wasn't even visible due to the
massive long-leaf pines and live oak trees. From the distance, the
garage doors were open, so someone (George S. Mock?) was presumably
home. Yet, we did not proceed. This looked like a place where you'd be
met by shotgun blasts and a series of attack dogs unleashed.
Earlier in the week, I called the phone number listed in the WRTH 2020
to inquire about visiting. It dropped to a fax. Then I emailed the
address listed. No reply. Shocker! So, that's about as far as we got
in an attempt to visit WJHR. And absolutely not on the air at just
after 1400 GMT check when back in downtown Milton. But a recheck at
1515, there it was! However, a very, very poor signal. You'd think at
this proximity, the signal would not be skipping over this much
despite their actual low power (and something remotely groundwave).
Yet, not. See: https://transition.fcc.gov/ib/sand/neg/hf_web/WJHR.txt
Suspect the FCC to date never visited this one. And never will``

** U S A. Another tropo TVDX opening on March 27. I start checking at
1508 UT and find some signals from both Tulsa and Wichita markets are
decoding. There is a Level 5-strong blob over the SE corner of KS, but
Enid is again on the edge of Level 1.
RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT, Derby (Wichita) KS, Univision is solid along with
the subs 31-2 thru 31-5 as described yesterday. Tropo usually fades
away by noon, but this megawatt must be in a pipeline/duct to here.
Checking around 2200 UT, it`s even making it on rabbit ears via my
alternative TV and STB! And still past 2400. Altho PSIP still reads
Escape on 31-3, bug in LR the past hours has been MYSTERY, and
full-screen net ID shows MYSTERY as a subset of COURT! Yet by 2100 UT,
Hepburn map predixions showed NO tropo between here and Kansas.
Back at 1510, via the main rooftop antenna, BAD signals on: 9, 10, 11,
13, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, some
of which are just OKC ruined by DX QRM.
RF 45, 6-1, KOTV Tulsa is in solid again
RF 12, 33-1, KSCW-DT again from Wichita
At 1654, RF 20, 19-1, KQCW-HD. Muskogee (Tulsa market), 550 kW with CP
to almost double power and tower HAAT, from site unknown, different?
And RF 28, 44-1 ION the only ID but we know it`s KTPX-TV Okmulgee
(Tulsa), megawatt
At 1656, BAD signal on RF 6 --- that takes some doing via my
highband/UHF only antenna for channels 7 and up! Per W9WI.com, the
ONLY ch 6 of any type or power in OK or KS is: KBSD-DT, Ensign KS
(Dodge City), the 31 kW ERP satellite of KWCH Wichita CBS, having
managed to retain its old analog channel. Note, this is in SW KS, not
the tropo epicenter of SE KS; and off the back of my antennas.
RF 9, another BAD. W9WI.com shows absolutely NO 9s of any power or
type in OK or KS (what became of the ``Enid`` LP CP axually in OKC?).
One in AR: 3 kW in Fort Smith.
My other antenna which is all-channel, is generally out of use with
broken VHF and reflector elements; is also half as high as the other
one, barely clearing roof level. But I energize it and its amp again
to compare: it is not getting anything on RF 6, but:
At 1702, RF 22, 23-1 KOKI-TV Tulsa, Fox with noon news unlike OKC`s;
23-2 MeTV; 23-3 EscapeT --- yes, looking very closely, the PSIP ends
with a capital T, not a !
RF 34, 41-1 KMYT-TV Tulsa with My, 41-2 GetTV, 41-3 GritTV, 41-4 HNI.
The STB confusingly mixes in my local virtual 41, K17JN-D, the 3ABN
satellator for which 41 never had anything to do with Enid, but rather
its flagship? station in far Ardmore! Those 41s go all the way to -9,
some of which are Audio-only.
RF 36, 17-1 TBN-HD, 17-2 Hillsong, 17-3 SMILE [kids], 17-4 Enlace
[Spanish], 17-5 POSITIV. This has to be megawatt KDOR-TV Bartlesville
OK, originally on NTSC and DTV 17, now repacked so at least no longer
can QRM Enid`s only station. W9WI.com has a different lineup for this
TBN and presumably the others: 17.3 JUCE, 17.5 Salsa (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
