Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually any convenient occasion.  While there are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of great podcasts from other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted through the worthy objectives of the medium. 

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently.  I hope you might find these suggestions helpful in enhancing your own enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“Jamie Dornan”
DESERT ISLAND DISCS - BBC Radio 4
Jamie Dornan, actor, shares the soundtrack of his life with Lauren Laverne.  Jamie Dornan first came to the attention of television audiences in 2013 when he played serial killer Paul Spector in the BBC series "The Fall".  Two years later he starred alongside Dakota Johnson in the film "Fifty Shades of Grey" and went on to play the same part in the rest of the trilogy.  In 2022 he was the lead in the BBC drama "The Tourist" which was watched by millions of viewers and recently returned for its second season.  In 2021 he played Pa in the film “Belfast" which was written and directed by Kenneth Branagh about his own childhood, growing up at the beginning of the Troubles. (45”)

Sue Perkins challenges guests Paul Merton, Eleanor Tiernan, Heidi Regan and Tony Hawks to speak for 60 seconds without repetition, deviation or hesitation. The long-running Radio 4 panel game is back for a new series with subjects this week ranging from Apostrophes and Catastrophes to Hermits. (29”)
