Rich,
I remember the night at the Winter SWL Fest where a number of us were standing around the keg lubricating our synapses. We noted that the DXers had really found the Internet useful for spreading news in near real time since about 1995 with the advent of the Jihad DX newsletter. (Political correctness caused the name to be changed in a few months to Cumbre DX. I guess nobody realized that in Arabic the word "jihad" meant struggle. Rare DXing is a struggle so I think it was aptly named right from the jump. )
We discussed why the SW stations did not use the internet to promote their upcoming programs and frequeny shifts. Nature abhors a vacuum and so the Topica Swprograms list was born to fill that vacuum. We spent the next few weeks tossing ideas around until you emulated Nike by "just doing it".
Today the broadcasters have for the most part either caught on and are doing a good job of blowing their own horns or they have decided to shut off their transmitters and simply stream their programs complete with program schedules and even video.
Thanks for your initiative and your jihad to make us all better informed.
Joe
