 WORLD OF RADIO 1409 SUMMARY:

*Time changes for World of Radio: on WBCQ [see below] and WRMI Thu
2200 moved to UT Fri 0100 on 9955
*New Australian on 2368.5 in 120m band, R. Symban (should be Syban if
correctly transliterated from Greek), 1 kW heard in NSW and Finland
 so far, http://www.radiosymban.com.au/
*NBC Papua New Guinea still silent on 4890, 9675; may get new 25 kW
 transmitters by next year
*I was monitoring Firedrake musical jamming by China the past week,
but it vanished starting May 19; due to 3-day quake morning period,
replaced by CNR-1 program jamming [but May 22 still no FD]
*Latest monitored schedules for broadcasts to and from Sichuan
*New 13840 forced R. Netherlands to move, and also colliding with New
 Zealand
*Murtaza Solangi of Voice of America appointed director-general of
 Radio Pakistan
*Radio Farda harder to hear in North America since Morocco site no
longer in use; best bet 7280 from Germany, 0030-0400
*WBCQ cut back use of 9330, opening it up for reception of the only
other station in the world on that frequency, R. Damascus, Syria,
such as English 2005-2215, with a beam change in the middle
*Romania cuts back SW frequencies for English and other broadcasts as
 Galbeni site closes down for installation of new 300 kW transmitters;
when it`s back, Tiganesti will close for new transmitters. New
 English schedule
*International Radio Serbia vanished from high-power Bijeljina site
May 19, on 6100 and 6185, but continued on low power 7200v near
Belgrade [but 6100 and 6185 resumed May 22]
*V. of Croatia continues via Germany; between 0100 and 0300 on 9925
using three transmitters from two sites, causing a `hollow, reverb`
sound, not precisely synchronized, but close
*The media magazine you monitor with your mind, World of Radio 1409,
 P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA or woradio at yahoo.com
*Check our website for much more; http://www.worldofradio.org
*Polish Radio external service may go off if domestic service is
 forced to rely on advertising
*Andy Sennitt has started a Media Network podcast:
 http://www.radionetherlands.nl/features/media/media-network-podcast
*Concluding with justification for so little music on RNW shortwave;
maybe they will `sing` the news calypso-style for gh`s benefit
*Spain`s RTVE plans to phase out shortwave on REE, and phase in
internet instead; held up by exchange agreements, so date unknown.
More English, Arabic, and Chinese service to be added, not on SW
*Italy reopens case against Vatican Radio officials over electrosmog
*IRIN Radio for Somalia changed schedule yet again to 0830-0845 on
 13685 via UAE
*Human Rights Watch reports on torture in Zimbabwe, and someone
murdered for merely owning a radio
*Radio Nigeria getting new 200 and 100 kW MW transmitters for Kaduna,
 Enugu
*Brasil`s R. Imaculada Conceição, 4754.9, widely reported this week,
perhaps because of running all-night or signal improvement
*WEWN relays on 4005 and 4800 seem to come from R. Virgen de Remedios,
 Bolivia
*New on 4805, R. San Juan, Ayacucho, Perú
*Ayacucho has a separatist movement with Marxist heroes; these wackos
axually think communism would be an improvement over impererialism
*Radio República, Cuban clandestine, adds new broadcasts, M-F 1000-
1100 via Sackville on 9490; Tue-Sat 0100-0200 via Nauen, Germany on
 5955
*More details on Venezuela`s SW site under construxion: at Calabazos,
Guárico state; engineer claims it helps propagation to be in the
middle of the country. To be on air to NAm in a sesquiyear, rest of
America in another year; but already covering all of America via
Cuba. Will become self-reliant, perhaps just in time for the fall of
 the Castro-Castro regime
*KTBN`s transmitter and other equipment dismantled in Utah, packed and
shipped to Caribbean, reportedly to refurbish Caribbean Beacon,
 Anguilla
*WBCQ has stayed on new 15420, but not on every day, trying to improve
signal; Good Friends pulled out, so 5110 closed down and along with
it Area 51; 9330 schedule also much reduced. New World of Radio times
are Wed 2100 on 15420, UT Sun 0300 on 9330; still Thu 2330 and UT Mon
 0415 on 7415
*DRM guru Don Messer on Ask WWCR currently airing, and next two shows,
UT Sundays 0145 on 5070, half a sesquihour before World of Radio
*WRMI has new Overnight AM show in the afternoons, M-F 2100-2400 on
9955, from HollowFX in Oklahoma City; Art Bell wannabees, about UFOs,
 etc.
*This replaces last hour of WRN relay at 21, and 22-24 mostly DX shows
and Prague relays moved to 0100-0300 Tue-Sat
*WWCR abruptly moves from 7465 to 7490 at 1100-1600, probably due to
complaint from utility or military user; including Rock the Universe
Saturdays at 1205; remains on 7465 in afternoon and evening
*Memorial Day, May 26 specials, back to their heydey as rockers in the
60s and 70s, WABC 770 New York Rewound, and WLS 890 Chicago Rewind
*Look out for short skip by sporadic E from broadcast auxiliaries on
11m band: 25950 KOA Denver, 25910 WBAP and 25990 KSCS Fort Worth
*Propagation outlook from Boulder, May 20 ###
