[Swprograms] International Herald Tribune: "Voice of America's new leader faces changing times"

Flagged by Kim Elliott at his international broadcasting / public
diplomacy weblog / website, http://www.kimandrewelliott.com/; I
thought it was worth propagating here.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/11/26/business/voa.php

A telling quote in the article is from a well-known name in these
parts, Jonathan Marks:

"'Don't you think that Jon Stewart on YouTube has more impact on the
way people see America than anything VOA could muster on radio or
TV?'" [Marks] complained that the VOA's Now 24/7 program in English
has been nicknamed "VOA Now and Then" because of reduced programming.
"Both times that Saddam Hussein has been world news with his capture
and death sentence, VOA English has been off the air...'

Simon Spanswick, head of the Association of International
Broadcasters, is also quoted.
