The Media Network newsletter references a well-written article on the
future of radio, quoting from Jonathan Marks and the BBC's Nigel
Chapman.
The aritlce is here:

The most interesting observation is that public broadcasters, by their
willingness to innovate, are prospering (relatively) while commercial
broadcasters are seeing their listenership seriously erode.
An interesting observation about the BBC: "In his public statements,
Nigel Chapman, BBC World Service director, describes a transformation
of a 'short wave radio broadcaster into a leading international
multimedia network.'"
