** U K. BBC PRODUCERS' PLANS FOR RADIO OUTPUT REVEALED
By Simon Baker, PA
Proposals in the 1970s to give each BBC Radio station an "individual
entity, with its own strong flavour" were today revealed in a set of
documents released by the National Archives.
A group of BBC producers made the suggestion in a memo to the
Committee On The Future Of Broadcasting in 1975 and set out how the
then four stations should be run.

However, the memo warns Radio 4 that it will "have to stop being
obsessed with the counting of heads and remember that the quality of
listening is in the long run more important than the number of mere
'hearers"'.
