Richard:
Your point about the improved access to BBCWS and WRN is well taken.
People in Canada have been hit even harder by the additional cuts to BBCWS than we in the States have been. I took my SW Radio to Canada earlier in the year and morning broadcasts were virtually inaudible and the evening ones were weak.
I am hoping that the Canadian Government will leave the satellite decision alone but you never know. If there is a perception that reversing the CRTC decision will protect Canadian culture they may well do that. The Liberals are in a minority position and there will be an election in Canada early next year so I'm sure they are using polling data to help them make this decision.

The only "news" is that Frulla says the cabinet will make a decision
by next week's deadline. At first glance I thought this headline
meant that the cabinet had decided to prevent the CRTC from
proceeding.
Minor aside -- no one has mentioned that the availability of XM and
Sirius will improve Canadians' access to programming that originates
outside of the USA -- presuming the BBCWS and WRN would be among the
retained channels in the Canadian implementations of satellite radio.
You'd think the proponents of satellite radio in Canada could get some
mileage (kilometerage?) out of that.
