I should mention that general HF propagation has been the Pit of Despair
this summer. It's that time of the sunspot cycle.

FWIW, not in my experience.  As someone else mentioned here, those 
daytime frequencies have been less robust during these days of high 
summer.  I suspect they will improve as we move toward autumn.
