"Conroy - An Entertainment Dynasty". When English theatre scenic artist
and set-maker Will Conroy arrived in New Zealand just after the first
world war, he set about building up not just a flourishing scenery
painting business in Wellington but something of a dynasty of theatre
workers. Son Wilf joined the firm and grandsons Phil, Mike and Chris
were put to work almost as soon as they could walk. Will passed away in
1968, Wilf is semi-retired but the three boys are all making a living
in the industry. And there's a fourth generation of Conroys now helping
out backstage.
