DISH Network Introduces Great Wall TV Package Featuring 17 Chinese Television Channels; Customers Can Receive the Package with Equipment and Installation at No Cost 

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 2004--EchoStar Communications Corporation's (NASDAQ: DISH) DISH Network(TM) satellite television service will add an additional 14 Chinese television channels to its Chinese programming line-up to create its new Great Wall TV Package featuring 17 channels available Sept. 30. DISH Network subscribers can receive installation and equipment at no cost when signing up for the Great Wall TV Package for the monthly fee of $29.99.

The new channels featured in the Great Wall TV Package are CCTV-9, CCTV-Spanish/French, CCTV-Opera, CCTV-Entertainment, China Movie Channel, Beijing TV, Shanghai TV, Guandong TV, Jiangsu TV, Fujian TV, Hunan TV, Shanxi TV, Phoenix InfoNews and Pacvia TV. They join three other channels previously offered by DISH Network -- ATV Home Channel, CCTV-4 and Phoenix North America Chinese Channel -- for a complete television entertainment package.

The addition of this package underscores DISH Network's leadership role in broadcasting international programming and specifically Chinese broadcast television. The new package features 12 channels in the Mandarin dialect, two channels in the Cantonese dialect, one channel in the Fujianese dialect, one English-language channel and one Spanish and French-language channel. DISH Network offers more than 90 international channels in more than 20 languages, including Arabic, French, Hindi, Polish, Korean, Japanese and Russian.

All the channels described below, unless specified, are in the Mandarin dialect and are available 24 hours a day.


CCTV-4 -- A general entertainment channel, presenting news stories around the clock, and delivering entertainment and educational programs.

CCTV-9 -- An English-language channel provided by China Central Television, offering the country's window on China.

CCTV-Spanish/French -- This channel alternatively broadcasts programs in both languages in 4-hour shifts, including news programs and features, educational and entertainment programs.

CCTV-Opera -- This channel meets the demands of Chinese Opera lovers from around the world 
featuring Peking Operas as well as the broadcast of other first-class local operas.

CCTV-Entertainment -- A channel that includes TV dramas, music and dance programs, Chinese operas, folk arts and acrobatic shows.

China Movie Channel -- A channel that features various movie genres, including classics to the latest blockbusters.

Beijing TV -- A composite channel exhibiting the unique characteristics of China's capital city, highlighted with programs relating to news, culture, lifestyle, entertainment, travel, sports, science, dramas and children programs.

Shanghai TV -- A composite channel from Shanghai Media Group, demonstrating the modern metropolis and its local characteristics.

Guandong TV -- A special news and entertainment channel broadcast in the Cantonese dialect, featuring news, lifestyle, fashion, entertainment and TV dramas.

Jiangsu TV -- This international channel showcases the "Wuyue" culture along the Yangtze River, covering news, economy, entertainment, showbiz, education, culture, travel and TV drama.

Fujian TV -- A channel in the Fujianese dialect that highlights Chinese culture, and also includes news and information programs, entertainment, sports and financial information.

Hunan TV -- This highly popular provincial channel features entertainment and information programs.

Shanxi TV -- This channel focuses on providing information for teaching and training, such as Chinese chess, painting, poems, operas, local dancing, music, cuisine, antiques and medicine.

Phoenix North America Chinese Channel -- This general entertainment program presents news, information and entertainment.

Phoenix InfoNews -- This newly launched news channel from Phoenix TV closely follows what's new in China, compiles worldwide financial reports and also provides live coverage of critical events. Phoenix InfoNews content will not immediately be available to customers. The planned launch is the week of 10/4, although that date is subject to change.

ATV Home Channel -- A general entertainment channel in the Cantonese dialect providing news and information programs, as well as movies, dramas and entertainment programs.
Pacvia TV -- This channel mainly broadcasts TV dramas produced in China.
