language, and wants 1000 families to be using te reo Maori by 2025.
Acknowledging the power of music to reach out to its predominately
young population, the iwi has produced 'Tenei Te Ruru', a CD of modern
waiata written and performed by te hunga taiohi (youth). The waiata are
inspirational in content and distinctly Kai Tahu in style. A step
closer to Kai Tahu language being used everyday and everywhere.

Maori language diary, together with an English translation, forms the
central part of a book by Maori language scholar, Dr Helen Hogan, and
also provides a window into Maori-Pakeha relations at a time of turmoil
in New Zealand's history.
