Hello,
This week on Quirks & Quarks our feature item is:
"The Transit of Venus."
It's been almost 122 years since the last observation of this
remarkable phenomenon. But in just over a week, the planet Venus will
once again pass between Earth and the sun. The astronomical event is
known as the Transit of Venus and will occur in the early hours of June
8th. This is only the sixth time humans have actually observed this
event. But even though it's rare, it has a rich history, as scientists
throughout time have launched international expeditions to observe its
effect. Wars, shipwrecks and religious duty have all hampered attempts
to see Venus crossing the Sun. But despite that, it helped astronomers
to better understand our solar system. And scientists today are eagerly
awaiting its once-in-a-lifetime appearance.
Plus - songbirds use herbal remedies to keep the germs away.
All this and more on Quirks & Quarks, Saturday right after the noon
news on Radio One.
